The Carolina Panthers New Logo Looks Nearly Identical to the Old Logo

All, NFL Jason McIntyre January 30th. 2012, 7:15pm

The Carolina Panthers unveiled a new logo, and the only problem is that there appears to be no change at all from the old logo. Team President Danny Morrison said, “It is a cleaner style that is easier to read and should be more applicable to different uses.” Right.

Here’s the old one (on the left below), via Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer. As you can tell … the changes are barely noticeable.

So they took out the black outline and changed the whiskers and eyelashes to blue. Money well spent.

Reminds me of when I worked for AT&T Global Information Solutions (the previously acquired NCR) and AT&T spun us back off in the trivestiture of AT&T, Lucent, and GIS. We spent $1m with a branding agency to come up with our new name of…NCR.

I saw elsewhere that Seattle is making some changes to their logo as well…looks like there will be quite a few uniform updates as well with the switch to Nike apparel next year.

I remember the Panthers first year I got a hat and T-shirt for Christmas because I liked the logo so much. The only time I wore non-49ers gear. Then they spanked us in a regular season game in 1995 and never wore them again.

It’s not so much I dislike the logo, but rather the type face for the “Carolina Panthers”….it looks hokey. seems similar to UNC Tar Heels merchandise I’ve seen online.

It’s an update, and a well needed-one at that. This one is cleaner, sharper and the new font is more contemporary. The previous one looked dated since the end of the 90′s.

The new font may be a bit generic, but a lot more contemporary. That’s why they changed it. Like I said – the previous Zubaz-like font was outdated since 1999. Which makes sense since they first started using it in the mid-90′s.

Okay, I guess the new font is “more” contemporary compared to what they had, but the new font isn’t close to being contemporary itself. Still looks 90′s-ish.

The first thing I saw in the old logo was Batman in the teeth. I have spent every day tell everyone I meet about Batman now I see they changed the teeth. I think they heard me. I live just outside of Charlotte I have been pointing Batman out since day one.
