Why We Love Bubba Watson: He Bought the General Lee From Dukes of Hazzard
The San Diego Union-Tribune had a lengthy story on American golfer Bubba Watson Monday, and the phrase “red-neck quirkiness” couldn’t have been a more perfect phrase for a guy who just bought the General Lee, which is perhaps the most iconic car in TV history (sorry, Knight Rider). This is what it looks like to put gas in the General Lee.

He Bought the General Lee From Dukes of Hazzard
he maybe bought “a” General Lee from the Dukes. But they used dozens upon dozens for the TV show, and who knows how many for the movie.
So he owns one of them.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
If by red neck quirkiness they also mean his driver has a pink shaft, he cries a lot, and also owned this – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kABV9Kt8Xao
Yeah, he’s not a redneck at all. It’s a gimmick.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Like in the movie War Horse where they had to use 11 different horses because 5 died in filming.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:18 AM
He had some problems at the French Open last year that garnered the “asshole” attention. Can’t remember what he did though.

Also, here is Bubba’s redneck watch.

No love for the Adam West Batmobile, TBL?
At the Wachovia open in Charlotte a few years ago the players were given Mercedes sedans to use for the week, Bubba couldn’t figure out how to start his because it was one of the keyless ignition cars.

I think that’s right. He didn’t like how the galleries weren’t controlled as well as they are over here and had some other issues.

I’m not sure the General Lee is even the best redneck TV car…the Beverly Hillbillies had a pretty sweet ride

Complaining about phones just seems silly. Does the PGA still not allow them at all? You would think in order to make it more fan friendly, they’d allow smart phones so attendees could follow the rest of the field. Just require they’re switched to silent. Someone doesn’t comply, kick ‘em out… people would catch on pretty quickly.

Greatest cars? Yes. But this is greatest TV cars. Ecto-1 and the DB5 were movie cars.

January 24th, 2012 at 11:37 AM
Some tourneys are more strict than others. Not allowed at all at the Masters. But Colonial in Fort Worth, for example, will tell you to put them away if they see you with them near a golfer but you can still check them when nobody is around as long as it isn’t blatant.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:37 AM
Agree with the Batmobile.
Drew Carey never had it so good.

Not shocking about the masters… and that’s fine I guess. But the rest of the tournaments should allow them. Nice to see Fort Worth has some common sense.

I’ll take jokes from 2003 for $100, Alex.

Seems like a good place for this. Golf Channel FMK: Lauren Thompson, Holly Sonders (Kuselias’ girl), Win McMurry. Go.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:40 AM
Yeah well, Colonial also has one of the bigger party holes on tour. It’s amazing. I highly recommend attending a PGA Tour event. If you’ve never been, I assure you it’s not what you would expect.

I’ve been to Whistling Straights (awesome) for the PGA and the GMO (Greater Milwaukee Open)… yes, if the weather’s good it’s a great time. Never been to an event that was known for party-holes though.

This guy is a big phony who has sick game. Nice car.
Ark- your Cooter/Dukes story from the post yesterday was great. Could totally see that.

Lots of eye candy walking around PGA events too. More than you’d guess, anyway.

+1 to both of you anyway
January 24th, 2012 at 11:44 AM
Colonial’s is a par-3. It’s loud. There is a beer/margarita tent right behind the green. There are nothing but smokes walking around and you bet on everything that moves. The caddies are in on the gambling and often throw their bags down and sprint to the green – first one there wins.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:46 AM
that is tough. I would probably have to say Marry:Holly Saunders F: Lauren Thompson and K:Win McMurray.

Ryder Cup at Valhalla was awesome. St. Jude (Memphis), when it was in June, not so much. Hot as you can imagine with no shade in sight. Now that they have moved it to May it might not be so bad.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:47 AM
ritty do you go to the Colonial? I’ve never been to a PGA event and that is the one I have looked at, just can’t get any of my buddies to make the trip with me.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:48 AM
The Memorial in Columbus is a blast — The US Open at Oakmont was also amazing. Best to smooze with your connected friends and get in some hospitality tents. Walking around with the laymen is not the same as drinking comped jack and cokes all day.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:48 AM
Ya, it took me about 10 minutes to realize I was in the wrong category…so I am going to vote for Mitch Buchanan’s yellow Toyota truck.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:49 AM
Typical PGA event:
10% golf watching
10% walking around in the sun
30% concession stand
50% buying beer or going to pee
great
January 24th, 2012 at 11:49 AM
that’s actually the other one I have looked at going to because of proximity to where I live. the lack of a lot of top-tier players is why I have kind of shied away. not that I would follow them all day, but it would be cool to see a couple of them.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:49 AM
War Horse is a movie starring Sarah Jessica Parker in the title role, right?
Of the 11 horses used in this movie, Dana Jacobson, Julia Roberts, Shannon Sharpe, Baba Booey, and John Elway were the more famous ones.

My brother went to the GMO when Tiger made his debut on tour… was there for his first Hole in One… I think it was the 16th or 17th hole… said he’d never imagined a golf course could get so loud. Not sure where Tiger finished… but anyways, to nobody’s surprise, he hasn’t been back. Not many Perkins in Milwaukee.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:49 AM
Your buddies are retarded.
I’ve been the last couple of years. Go. Trust me. I think the fun hole is No. 13 though I can never remember.
I’ve also been to the Byron Nelson a couple of times but for me, it pales in comparison.

no doubt, I’ve tried to convince them for a couple years now. I was just reading that HP does a lot of charity stuff for it. I got a buddy that works for HP, maybe that will be my ticket in the hospitality tent.

I can usually get tent passes. Remind me closer to time and I’ll see what I can do if you haven’t found any already. It isn’t a necessity at the Colonial in my opinion because it’s so much fun to hang out on the party hole but it’s always nice to get in some a/c for a mixed drink.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
If you were referring to me, “you crybaby whore” would have been more appropriate.
Do the CHiPS motorcycles count in the TV vehicle discussion?
January 24th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
Sorry arkbadger. No one else wanted to play. F: Sonders; K: Thompson (seems like a space cadet); M: McMurry (seems like she has her head on straight).

one cool thing about having an 11 yo boy in our house is that i ‘have’ to go see flicks like wrath of titans and john carter and mysterious island. i would not go see them if not for him, but i do like some creative monsters and cgi
January 24th, 2012 at 12:04 PM
I might go see Mysterious Island just so I can watch Dwayne Johnson flex his pecs numerous times.
January 24th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
They actually sold the first General Lee last week or in the last month at Barret Jackson’s auction. I saw something on it yesterday, but it was the car they use in the opening seen to do the jump. Someone bought it and restored it and it was sold. So in a sense, if Bubba is standing there at an auction he may have very well bought the actual original General Lee.
Also: F: Saunders, M: Thompson, K: McMurry. Saunders would be fun to take for a ride, but she always comes off as not knowing shit on the morning drive, its painful to listen to her try to talk about things, she is not real smart, but she is hot. Thompson is the hottest of the three and seems like she would have some knowledge. McMurry gets left behind due to the traits of the other two.
January 24th, 2012 at 12:10 PM

January 24th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
pretty sure that is the same one.
January 24th, 2012 at 12:23 PM
These used 100′s of General Lees and ever dude with that Dodge Charger painted it orange and welded the doors shut.
Bubba’s schtick is weak.
January 24th, 2012 at 1:10 PM
After a quick google search, indeed it is. Actually a good purchase for Bubba. He owns the actual original and since he is a celeb I am sure in a few years if he sells it, it will make money.
