Santonio Holmes vs. Mark Sanchez: Best East-West Feud Since Biggie vs. Tupac?
Just fix this mess, Rex. Please. The last two Januarys spoiled Jets’ fans greatly. The last two weekends felt hollow without Gang Green playing. I’m barely excited about Championship weekend (49ers -2.5, Patriots -7).
Please pass along my advice to Tanenbaum: Get rid of Plaxico; 1st round pick has to be RT or safety; if you can get Ronnie Brown on the cheap to reunite with Sparano, please do; please don’t overpay for Marques Colston or DeSean Jackson or Laurent Robinson (Pierre Garcon would be nice, though); please upgrade the linebackers, and don’t worry about find a backup to push Sanchez. We’ll know this year what he’s made of, and he fails again … draft a QB in 2013.
Also, if the question is Biggie or Tupac, the answer is Tupac at the gym, Biggie any other time.

I’m loving the shitstorm that is the JETS.
Fourth in the AFC East 2012? Could have happened this year.
January 20th, 2012 at 6:32 PM
Tupac all the time. But Biggie does get them wet…
January 20th, 2012 at 6:35 PM
Eh, I’d pass on Ronnie Brown if I were you. But DeSean Jackson would be worth dropping some coin on. He had a down year which probably lowered his value on the trade market (if he gets franchised) or on the open market as a UFA, due to his down year. I mean he’ll still command a handsome contract, but not like he would have after 2010. If the Jets were to go for him, now would be the time.
January 20th, 2012 at 6:38 PM
I would have no problem with the Jets signing DeSean, because he might kill Sanchez since he can’t throw a ball with any accuracy past 20 yards.
January 20th, 2012 at 6:41 PM
DeSean complained from a distance in Philly because he knows you don’t talk shit to your QB if he just got out of federal prison.
January 20th, 2012 at 6:43 PM
I think his complaints were more towards Fat Andy rather than Vick. Players love to play with Vick.
January 20th, 2012 at 6:46 PM
I think his complaints were more towards Fat Andy rather than Vick. Players love to play with Vick.
Because they know what he did to dogs when they ‘got out of line’.
DeSean was more pissed about his contract situation and how he was being used. But Forte was pissed about his contract situation in Chicago and still put together a pretty damn good season. DeSean just gave up.
Still, the guy has talent. It’s not quite a Terrell Owens level discussion of talent vs. attitude problems, but you have to consider that if DeSean played like he did in a contract year, what’s it going to be like when the QB throwing to him is underthrowing by 10 yards on every deep route (deep route running being where DeSean’s value is).

Love Biggie. Absolutely love him. He’s the man.
But come on…

That just make me squirm. I get Newport Beach is goddamn gorgeous, but who really needs 3 mansions in Newport fucking Beach. Christ.

I so hate this team lately. I’ve never gone from liking to hating something so much. Just disappointments everywhere. Having said that, RT in the 1st round is PARA FUCKING MOUNT. And get me Peyton. I don’t give a shit about cap space, health, or any other rational observations. Just bring him to me.

TBL is drunkposting. I haven’t seen this since his boy came into the world. He must be in the midst of a 6 pack of MGD again. Outside shot of TBLAD? Well, no. That has been dead for a couple years. However, TBL drunkposting is entertainment.
January 20th, 2012 at 6:59 PM
For lyrics and storytelling that moves a crowd? Biggie, and it isn’t even that close. If it wasn’t for that contrived East Coast West Coast thing, the comparisons would be between Biggie, Jay, and Nas because they’re similar rappers.
January 20th, 2012 at 7:00 PM

The answer is always Biggie. Unless it’s mother’s day or I’m feeling in a socially conscious mood.
January 20th, 2012 at 7:02 PM
This shit is softer than Common vs. Drake.
January 20th, 2012 at 7:03 PM
I had a hard time understanding Biggie. He enunciated poorly. And, Suge Knight reminded us about the danger of “the producer all up in the videos…”
Tupac was probably nuts, but he was a talented cat.
January 20th, 2012 at 7:04 PM
Since Illmatic, Nas hasn’t been able to pick a beat that fits his flow to save his life. ’tis really a shame.
January 20th, 2012 at 7:05 PM
So, so comical how Rex is supposed to fix this when he’s enabled this catastrophe with his loudmouth bullshitting.

Maybe the search for his replacement starts now. Just like in business or the military, always have a short list of heirs apparent or line of succession.

What I meant was an Outkast album. I’m jonesing for some new Outkast like a fiend. And I don’t care if they throw a million people on it. But I need 12 songs with BB and 3 Stacks on each one. Period. Andre > Big Boi, but I know Speakerboxxx > The Love Below. Big Boi is the better solo artist of the two, but neither is half as good as the sum of their parts.
January 20th, 2012 at 7:34 PM
The bigger question is that will Dre ever release Rehab or is it a pipe dream at this point.
January 20th, 2012 at 7:35 PM

I mean The Carnival was alright. Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was absolutely fantastic. But The Score… I don’t think I can even explain how good that was to myself.

honest question: How good was missy elliott during her run in the late 90s and early 2000s? I never paid much attention to her music but I get the feeling I missed out on some good albums

more old school rap, less new rap sodomized by autotune
January 20th, 2012 at 7:51 PM
Now that I think of it, and maybe because this was during my middle school/high school days of just grinding with chicks whenever the songs came on… but not a lot of Missy songs that I hated. Even when she sang, I was feeling her stuff.
January 20th, 2012 at 7:52 PM
They were hot, and they had the right place and right time thing going for them since they came at the end of that so called East Coast, West Coast thing.
January 20th, 2012 at 7:56 PM
Do not agree, Kanye has been less assholish recently, and produced a lot of what I consider one of greatest albums in hip-hop, the Blueprint
GOAT – Eminem
January 20th, 2012 at 7:57 PM
I really can’t believe how young guys like Nas, Big Daddy Kane and Rakim were when they released classics that will likely never be topped. That must be weird to release your magnum opus when you’re 18, 19 years old.
January 20th, 2012 at 7:57 PM
Clarification: as a rapper he can go fuck himself. He’s a fantastic producer but I do not like him on the mic

January 20th, 2012 at 8:02 PM
I mean, they aren’t the only people to do something you qualify as great at that age. I know this is a terrible example, but think of the guys that were in Back Street Boys, New Kids on The block, and N Sync. Just imagine being 18-20 years old and having completed arena filling world tours. Actually, don’t. Because now I want to kill myself. For various reasons.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:04 PM
Shit, the monster that is Lil Wayne was integral to Cash Money about half his lifetime ago. And he’s turning 30.

January 20th, 2012 at 8:08 PM
The first half of the album is pretty good, but it kinda falls apart afterwards. It seems like 8 of their songs were 1:30 minutes of BS.

It’s not even the fame so much. Though, being Beiber right now wouldn’t be bad. It’s just like…to me Illmatic is the greatest rap album ever made, and it’s gotta be in almost everyone’s top 5 rap albums. 20 years later it must be crazy to know you’ll never top that. And it’s not like rappers are gymnasts where 14-22 is basically your window, you can rap forever. There’s gotta be some ambivalence there for peaking that young in your life.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:10 PM
Yeah, because if they were black they would be middle of the pack. No where near the Tribe Called Quest’s of the hip hop game.

Best hip hop groups (3+) starts with Tribe, Wu-Tang and NWA. And I’ll steal Simmons’ idea here…Mount Rushmore of Rap is no doubts Tupac, Biggie, Eminem, and either Dre and Jay-Z.

January 20th, 2012 at 8:23 PM
And all this probably supports the theory that Jay Z is probably the best. His first album was when he was 26! And got better!! Probably the most solid case to be made.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:23 PM
Damn. I really want to put The Roots or the Fugees in there but I can’t. That is the right answer.

watching Kitchen Nightmares…Gordon Ramsey is a stone cold killer
January 20th, 2012 at 8:25 PM
I think coming out when he was 26 was to his advantage though. Same for Eminem. I don’t think either would be as good if they got huge at 19.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:26 PM
Eminem’s first five years 98-03 > Jay-Z’s longevity
January 20th, 2012 at 8:27 PM
Not saying anyone is right or wrong… BUT… EPMD, Eric B and Rakim, Gangstarr, Beasties, RUN DMC (Yeah, we need to rethink it with RUN DMC)
January 20th, 2012 at 8:27 PM
Agree with the first two.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:27 PM
Individual rappers I would have to agree with that, though I don’t necessarily think those are the 4 best. A Mt Rushmore of Producers would be interesting too as well.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:28 PM
smackdown livechat
January 20th, 2012 at 8:28 PM
To me, a Mt. Rushmore is the great who inspired the greats. If you’re talking Biggie and Jay-Z, then the top of their pyramid would be Big Daddy Kane. Rakim changed how a rapper flowed. NWA put the West Coast on the map. Run DMC took rap across the charts AND international. You can’t have any list of influence without the Sugarhill Gang. Kurtis Blow was the first solo superstar.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:28 PM
If we’re talking duo’s you gotta put Outkast in that discussion as well.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:29 PM
I don’t know if I agree with this. I may be biased because of geography.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:29 PM
The lack of Public Enemy in this discussion makes me sad. Chuck D, IMO, is the greatest MC ever. But what do I know. I’m listening to this right now.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:30 PM
Duos? It was only one album, but Black Star. talib Kweli and Mos Def. loved their album…and according to wikipedia, a new Black Star album is coming this year
January 20th, 2012 at 8:30 PM
Eminem’s writing, rhyming and style > Jay-Z
Agree with Jersey about EPMD, Eric B. and Rakim. Don’t forget about Bone Thugs, but I guess thats more of the Rap genre.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:30 PM
And since a duo is a group, we have to rethink that group list. And how the fuck are we forgetting Kid N Play.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:30 PM
Yeah. If he died before Encore came out I’d be touting him as the best rapper ever. Unfortunately for his legacy, he didn’t die. I hated everything until Recovery.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:31 PM

January 20th, 2012 at 8:32 PM
Look, they’re probably my two personal faves, but Eminem with Slim Shady Marshall Mathers, Eminem Show back-to-back-to-back is hard to argue.
Jay did have Life and Times Part 3, Blue and Black, but Eminem was a force of nature in those five years. Considering he had to duet with Elton at the Grammy’s so that the LGBT coalitions would ease off him and it was national news for like a month. Em was like Jordon between 90-93.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:33 PM
I am white and do not like Elvis
January 20th, 2012 at 8:33 PM
Lets Get Free – Dead Prez is one of my favorite albums from a duo.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:34 PM
Now that I can get behind. I think it’s universal that there isn’t a track that Eminem can’t get on and absolutely rip. You may hate this comparison, but if you look at their career arcs, Eminem and Busta Rhymes have too many similarities to ignore. Their substance is way different, but their ability to just straight MURDER tracks is undeniable.
January 20th, 2012 at 8:34 PM

Vlad –
What’s your thought on the genre?
I’m of the ilk that I’m glad I became a fan of rock before it died. Our rock that we grew up on (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, STP, AIC, Soundgarden, Rage, etc.) at least has longevity. Just like the 60′s and 70′s did. The shit music that’s out there today is seriously fucking terrible. Kids today are going to be ashamed of the music they listened to growing up.
January 20th, 2012 at 9:14 PM
Green Day sucks dick.
That’s really difficult.
I’ll say Immortality, Alive, Yellow Ledbetter. A top 10 would be much easier.
January 20th, 2012 at 9:15 PM
Oh my, you need to give me 3 weeks to answer that one. But my #1 song is State of Love and Trust. I love that 2 of your top 3 is Alone and Indifference which are both underrated. I’ve been listening to this song a lot lately.

Neal Peart IS the best rock drummer ever. He surpassed Bonham and Moon a long time ago, IMO.

January 20th, 2012 at 9:28 PM
Black Keys are excellent. Much of the other music I like is heavily guitar orientated or bands that have been around a long time. That Rush concert from Palladia is on my DVR. Only watched a couple minutes of it.

It is a different time now. Drive-By Truckers have been going for 20 years now and have never received radio play yet have won a Grammy or two (with Booker T.) Tool is touring this year and won’t get any radio play with new music. Monster Magnet is huge in Europe. It is just different now. Radio is dead for original music.

Noted. The alternative and rock stations here will rarely play their old stuff and completely ignored 10,000 days. Tool only comes out with an album about once a decade so that might have something to do it with it. Playing Tool after Five Finger Death Punch or Seether might scare the rednecks around here.

As a monster fan of rock from 1990-1997, I’ve never liked Tool. Name another popular band from that era, and I would have probably liked them. It’s not you, it’s me Tool.

I like alot of the indie folk influenced stuff such as Fleet Foxes, Great Lake Swimmers, etc.. Bands i listen to a lot overall: The National, Muse, Elbow, White Lies, Doves, Editors, The Dears, The Sheepdogs, Thrice, Sharon Van Etten, of Montreal, Manchester Orchestra, and Josh Ritter. I am not a hispter, contrary to the list i just provided. I have way too much music that i can’t keep up with. JJ Grey & Mofro
Mofro used to be one of the “house bands” at Wakarusa. Many a good time. I remember getting to Waka the first time and seeing them on the main stage on Friday afternoon. We all ate some mushrooms and sat on the grass. All the hippies were doing the hippie thing and I just sat there thinking, “No, this isn’t hippie music. Just sit here and enjoy all of it. And to quit laughing at the hippies dancing to the white boy singing southern soul/funk music.” I was conflicted. Had a fantastic time. God, I loved the small hippie music festivals back in the day. I was just some dude on vacation. This was just part of the crowd’s summer. fun times.
January 20th, 2012 at 9:43 PM
Josh Ritter is really good if you’re into the modern version of folk rock. He’s been around for a few years. I just got into his music last year.
Muse is fantastic, unless you’re a certain female commenter from Chicago with questionable taste

KC – I got turned on to them at the Mexican place I always go to around here. One of the bartenders was a huge jam-band guy (followed Phish around 15+ shows a year), and he’d have Mofro playing whenever he was behind the bar. I have Country Ghetto and Georgia Warhorse, and both of those are albums I’ll listen to front to back. Makes me want to sit on a rocking chair on my porch with a big ol’ drink.

Yes. Mofro is perfect late Spring/Summer music. Sitting on the back stoop smoking and drinking and reading or bullshitting with friends doing nothing. I’m still not sure about JJ dropping his entire band over time and becoming JJ Grey and Mofro, but those early-mid 2000 years were big fun.

Saw Avett brothers in October. They definitely have talent, but they play their music kind of out of control; too much screaming in their music, which makes it hard to hear lyrics.

January 20th, 2012 at 10:34 PM
SRORD, Plant was the first real great one but i think Mercury was the best frontman ever when it comes to the entire package – singing, performing, stage presence, being dynamic, etc.
Different types of singers. Plant came from the English rhythm and blues/rock mold that was so popular there from the 1950s and 60s. Those singers sought to ooze sexuality and spirit through the way they sang.
Freddie Mercury had less of the blues-rock influence mainly because he didn’t grew up around it. He grew up doing more traditional type singing in Zanzibar and India before his family emigrated to England. He was not about passively oozing sensuality, he was more about an active relationship/connection with the audience. He fed off the audience’s energy and they off of his. Mercury was a more aggressive vocalist. He had charisma for days.
Plant at Earl’s Court in 1975 and Mercury at Live Aid in 1985 are about as good rock vocalist performances as you can find.
January 20th, 2012 at 10:38 PM
TJ, you know your R&B, for sure. I love Cooke’s stuff. And, I was a huge Al Green fan in the 70s.
When I listen to Redding’s stuff, it’s amazingly self-assured. He was so young when he died, but his work sounded like a guy who’d been through some hard living.

When something interests me, I read and learn whatever I can about it because I find it enjoyable. I’ve been blessed with pretty good recall of facts and previously acquired knowledge. I also don’t mind admitting when I’m wrong (usually) and I find that when you can admit that you don’t know something, you’re more likely to learn something new.
I don’t often agree with your opinions either Vlad, but I do enjoy your comments, even if they are about hockey and I don’t have a clue who any of the people you mention are.
January 20th, 2012 at 10:48 PM
Good on ya, TJ. As stated here before, there are great artists out there, but radio and other media make it so hard to wade thru some “lowest common denominator” stuff.
For me, I’ll be 52 this summer, and have enjoyed a wide range of stuff for a long time. But, most of my fave artists are either dead or past their prime (Spinners, original Temptations, Gladys Knight, Marvin Gaye, Delfonics). Thank God for Sirius XM.

Question. Does your knowledge come just off hand or do you research before you comment. I find you to be one of the most intelligent and knowledgeable commenters on this site. I don’t really agree with your opinions that often but do appreciate your wisdom and intellect.

Shit, wish I still had that kinda recall ability still. Be thankful you got it dude. Like really thankful. I used to be able to read and absorb information and rely it like nobody’s business. Booze and Drugs and a wicked bitch.
Fuck it, Boston rocks!

SRORD,
I recommend Marc Broussard. He made an album a few years ago called S.O.S (Save Our Soul). It’s mostly covers of Gaye, Green, and others. He’s a young white guy from Louisiana but he has a voice that would have fit perfectly next to the soul legends in their heyday

OT: too bad there is no Clippers-T-Wolves thread here. Promises to be an entertaining game.

January 20th, 2012 at 10:53 PM
Roeth, yeah i know of him. He’s a singer in a christian band from Canada.
Vlad, Boston’s first album was great. One of the best debut albums I can remember. Sadly, it was downhill after that
January 20th, 2012 at 10:54 PM
Vlad, I also admit to talking out of my ass on occasion (I’d say most guys do at some point when talking about sports). I don’t have a photographic memory. If you asked me what I learned in high school chemistry, I couldn’t tell you a damn thing.

I really didn’t think they’re be this many people commenting tonight. I’ve been watching the Pens game/UFC by my lonesome (not really – wife is home watching some stuff on DVR and baby is sleeping) when I could have been commenting on rap.

My HS game tonight was canceled thank God. Didn’t feel like driving an hour in this winter storm (which really hasn’t hit too bad yet) to ref a semi-blowout. Plus the one coach is a complete asshole.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:03 PM
This. But I’m pretty sure we would be disappointed. Unless they were photoshopped which they most likely would.

Wolves have a ton of potential. Rubio with two fouls early sucks. If the Wolves had a DeAndre Jordan-type center, they could compete for an 8 seed this year or next. I really like the direction they are heading.

speaking of drunk. a buddy told me earlier they have some pappy van winkle at sam’s liquor store for $85. he didn’t say what year, sounds suspicious though. I’m checking it out tomorrow.

When I listen to Redding’s stuff, it’s amazingly self-assured.
There’s an insane 4-disc box set out there. In the days before file sharing and what not I had that from the library system, and kept it for an extra month and gladly paid all the dues. To me, his passion for each song live is almost peerless.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:10 PM
scripty, hell yeah.
OT, again: Mo Williams shooting with a ton of confidence tonight.

Not drunk. Only on scotch number 2. My lady has the flu, so I’m trying to be attentive to her.
Bourbon doesn’t have an age statement as often as scotch does, but if it’s Pappy and it’s $85 I would definitely ask for some background from the people at the liquor store. If they are worth their salt, they should be able to speak about it intelligently.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:12 PM
AWESOME
January 20th, 2012 at 11:12 PM
oh, yeah. One more thing about Otis – his backing band, the original Bar-Kays, were for the most part right out of high school. Young cats with a serious grasp of rhythm.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:12 PM
That song is off the previous album, not the new one.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:12 PM
Watching original Iron Chef right now. I love this show.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:14 PM
Does that “owner” of the iron chef stadium still bite into the green pepper and then grin like a maniac into the camera in the Iron Chef intro?
January 20th, 2012 at 11:16 PM
I think they are all repeats, scripty, so yes
January 20th, 2012 at 11:17 PM
Bar none, Otis Redding is my favorite musician of all time. Sam Cooke is a distant 2nd.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:17 PM
Scripty, the Japanese one had pretty much the same intro, including with the guy (who played Jesus in the Japanese production of “Jesus Christ Superstar”) biting straight into the bell pepper.
I wish they were still producing the original Iron Chef. The english translation cracks me up.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:18 PM
pretty sure pappy does, at least the bottle I have does. it’s 12 year and it was $50, so if it’s $85 it must be 15 year? I have no clue. just seems weird at sam’s. and redneck. then again, living it up in Arkansas I guess.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:19 PM
It was a yellow pepper.
/But like TJ said, they’re all reruns.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:19 PM
True story. I was once pulled over by a woman cop and sweet talked her into dinner in exchange for tearing up the speeding ticket. All I say is it was fun.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:20 PM

You’re right, I meant to mention that Pappy often does have an age statement, especially the expensive stuff. Got distracted while I was typing and left that part out.
I just drank some Dewar’s 12 chilled with whiskey rocks straight out of the freezer. Great investment.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:20 PM
We would laugh into tears during the intro every time once that guy chomped into the Bell Pepper. They were always taking on the French Iron Chef, and the Chinese one next. Going to bow out for now, going to get my Kool Moe Dee “Knowledge is King” tape out hiding.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:24 PM
Sakai (French) was always the best. I liked him the most, then Michiba, Kenichi, and the Italian cuisine Masahiko Kobe in the later ones…
January 20th, 2012 at 11:26 PM
I see chief set a google alert for “chef talk”!
Regarding Iron Chef America, i can’t stand that floor reporter Kevin Brauch. Go away!
January 20th, 2012 at 11:26 PM
Sakai was my favorite as well followed by Kenichi. Kenichi cracked me up because at the end of every round when the on floor interviewer asked him how he did, he would always say “Well you know, it was a tough round and I’m not used to this secret ingredient. I’m not sure. I feel good about my dishes but I’m not sure how it will come out. But I think I’m going to win.”
Without fail, every single time.

January 20th, 2012 at 11:27 PM
Can’t stand Iron Chef America. And it’s not because of Alton Brown, who I actually like on Good Eats, it’s just that it doesn’t have the same serious attitude that the Japanese one had, which made it so intriguing and enjoyable.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:28 PM
He started out extremely rough. I wasn’t sure he’d even last the first season on Food Network. He’s improved immensely, though. I like him now.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:30 PM
name association with Dewars doesn’t do it any favors. what year is the cheap stuff at the store? because it is nasty.
my gf’s brother got me some whiskey rocks for christmas, enjoying a pappy and soda right now. love those things.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:34 PM
name association with Dewars doesn’t do it any favors. what year is the cheap stuff at the store? because it is nasty.
If you’re going to badmouth Dewar’s, then I’m not sure we can be friends. I won’t call it the best blend (as mass market blends go Chivas Regal is superior in almost every way), but I find it very enjoyable. I actually prefer it to Famous Grouse.
I’m drinking Ballantine’s on the rocks now.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:38 PM
The white label Dewar’s (the cheap stuff as you put it) doesn’t have an age statement. That means the youngest malt in it is at least 3 years old because by law malt has to be aged that long to be considered ‘scotch’.
January 20th, 2012 at 11:40 PM
But any blend is going to have 20, 30, 50 or sometimes even more malts and grains in it (there’s typically only three or four grains with the rest being malts), so the age of each addition may be different. Though of course in a cheaper blend you would expect most of the malts/grains to be relatively young.

January 21st, 2012 at 12:04 AM
Fuck if I know. I’m still here. It’s only 11pm CST.

I’m in. Still watching the Clippers game. Wassup?
January 21st, 2012 at 12:10 AM
Iron chef is over. I’m watching something about asteroids on Science Channel now. May go into the DVR to watch some Archer.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:10 AM
Been up since 5 am. Tapping out for the night. Clippers should win this
January 21st, 2012 at 12:10 AM
Just listening to Guns n Roses. An underrated band as far as I’m concerned.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:12 AM
Liked the early GnR stuff. After hearing the Metallica version of the Montreal concert debacle, I wonder about Axl.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:13 AM
Hello, gentlemen. This weather fucking sucks.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:14 AM
sorry to hear that, dtw. How bad is it forecast to be on Sat?
January 21st, 2012 at 12:14 AM
How do you figure GNR is underrated. They have one of the best debut albums of all time, and peaked with both Use your Illusions. They got way too cute with their music after that. I feel that they are properly appreciated, at least amongst people in their mid 20s and older. College kids today probably don’t know much beyond “Welcome to the Jungle” though, which is a shame.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:17 AM
Better in the Chicagoland; however, my Saturday forecast is grim seeing as I have tickets to the Bulls and Rose likely isn’t playing.
/just my luck
January 21st, 2012 at 12:17 AM
I just wanted to say that to stir the drink. It worked.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:17 AM
Possibly the worst night for Rubio in the NBA, but Wolves are just down 2 now.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:20 AM
Spring is coming, dtw. Keep hanging in a bit longer.
Sorry about Rose. His missing the game Monday enabled my Grizzlies to actually beat the Bulls.
Rubio’s last jumper from the wing looked broken. He is scuffling, but Johnson is playing well, along with Ridenour.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:20 AM
Sure he hasn’t scored a point, but he has 3 assists and 3 rebounds!!!

January 21st, 2012 at 12:28 AM
Sloppy exchange just now. Mlicic with a sloppy interior pass. Funky lob to Griffin also. Young teams running wild at this point.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:29 AM
I don’t know where you live DTW, but it’s been a late winter so far in the burgh. Hell, last year (2010) I was done roofing at the 2nd week of November, and it was below freezing the whole time until spring.
Pittsburgh got lucky in December this year with participation, or me and dad would have a bad year. Roofers follow the weather better than meteorologist
January 21st, 2012 at 12:29 AM
When will Rubio drive to the rim? If the jumper ain’t working (and it ain’t), ya gotta change it up.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:31 AM
Taking Rubio out would be the much better option here.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:33 AM
Is Barea out tonight? Oops, Hubie just answered (hamstring).
January 21st, 2012 at 12:34 AM
I get the impression Griffin is trying to prove tonight he has effective post moves (WRT Barkley’s comments to the contrary last night).
January 21st, 2012 at 12:36 AM
Mantis, I should not be complaining at all. We had weather in the 50s a few weeks ago in Chicago. I just worry that we’ll have snow in May since winter came so late.
I’ll never forget a few years ago walking to class in late April and seeing snow mounds. Fuck that.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:39 AM
Stats aside, Blake is not a complete player yet, but he is going to be GREAT. Charles was just pointing out his flaws for someone who is only 23. He is not being a hater.
Shaq’s analysis would be “mumble mumble mumble mumble, you see this dance I did.”
January 21st, 2012 at 12:42 AM
It’s been fairly easy going this winter in STL. only a couple days of snow, minimal at best. We’ve had only a week’s worth of bonechilling days and night. Today being one of them.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:43 AM
My first two years in college, I went to PSU’s branch campus in Erie. (because I wasn’t smart enough). It snowed more than 3 inches 41 days in a row. I had a 8-9 AM class everyday and got up 1 1/2 hours before it just to clean my car to drive. It builds character. I laugh at 3 inches of snow now.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:43 AM
Mantis, yeah I saw the exchange on TNT last night also. Barkley was reasonable with his points. Griffin is a beast, but some of his moves down low aren’t as fluid as they will be in a year or so.
OBTW, he helps you win and puts butts in the seats. Good enough for me.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:44 AM
75 degrees in Dallas today. We’ve had a bullshit winter so far.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:45 AM
In the Spgs, we’ve had 50s the last few days. Slightly warmer than average, and pretty dry also. We normally get some wet snow Feb or March.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:46 AM
With Gomes, Foye and Mo, the Clippers have a decent bench this year.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:49 AM
I love car and truck commercials – showing me special effects crap that I can’t actually do in real life, and that is supposed to sell me on buying that product.
Barrel rolls, indeed.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:50 AM
A truck pulling off barrel rolls like that is as likely as your Stratotanker pulling off the same maneuver back in the day, eh SROD?
January 21st, 2012 at 12:53 AM
Is Griffin’s shot outside of 10 feet worth a damn at all? I haven’t caught many games, but it seems like he goes 5/14 every night w/ 5 Sportscenter top ten dunks.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:56 AM
ms, I knew a couple of guys back in the day who thought it was possible to roll a C-135. I sure as heck didn’t wanna be on-board when that happened. Me and the aircraft commander would have to have a crash-axe-punctuated discussion if he tried crap like that.
Mo ejected? That stinks. Yeesh.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:58 AM
dtw, I think you are right about Griffin’s jumper. With Paul and/or Foye and Mo in the game, Griffin’s jumper shouldn’t be a big problem.
January 21st, 2012 at 12:59 AM
Roll a KC-135? Ha! I never studied aerodynamics or engineering, but I know that is as likely as an Airbus doing the same thing.
January 21st, 2012 at 1:01 AM

January 21st, 2012 at 1:07 AM
I missed it all, but the frontman discussion needs more Wayne Coyne. Flaming Lips shows are extremely entertaining.
Side note: I was at a Local H show (best band of the 90s) one time with my friend Luke and we met Wayne, he said “Luke, like Cool Hand Luke, nice”. Luke was amazed because it was the only person ever who didn’t say like Luke Skywalker.
January 21st, 2012 at 1:07 AM
Ah, that makes sense. But seriously, you mentioning that makes me think about when I was a kid and we used to talk about swinging on a swingset hard enough to go completely around.
January 21st, 2012 at 1:09 AM
when we were kids, “everything” was possible. Wasn’t that cool?
