Very excited to never read that.

Its a shame this typo didn’t happen with Fuji.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:14 AM
Why must there be a daily beating video?
/Seriously
January 19th, 2012 at 8:14 AM
Justice would be served if those shitheads get ass raped in jail and then died a slow excruciatingly painful death from HIV. I just cannot stand bullying and abusing weaker people regardless of gender, race, creed, religion, etc. Hypocrisy? Perhaps, but the only way for assholes like these to attain empathy is to taste their own medicine.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:15 AM
Rihanna and Chris Brown are secretly hooking up, which should end well
/smh
I wish the women who hang out here would explain the phenomenon, how a woman who has been abused can willingly hang out with her abuser months or years after the abuse. What’s the draw?
OT: watching “Grace Potter: Guitar Center Sessions”. She’s got big-time talent, and she seems real cool.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:15 AM
It’s part changing (or not changing) Star Wars every 5 minutes so that the geeks can buy their SEVENTH box set. It’s also the way you show such contempt for your loyal fanbase by threating legal action on them every time one of them makes a tribute video on youtube.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:18 AM
I think you would need similar experience to understand the phenomenon. I dont. My uneducated guess would be low self esteem, but I dunno.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:18 AM
That one kid from the beatdown video will be easy to identify.
Enjoy juvy and then the big house for your hate crime.
Would have been funny if they ran across 10 brothers with all their ‘N’ talk.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:18 AM
why did this man shoot a laundromat change machine?
Not unlike the scene in “Dr. Strangelove”, where Bat Guano shot the soda machine for change.
Initially, I thought “Florida, of course”, until I looked at the screen capture.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:19 AM
I just cannot stand bullying and abusing weaker people regardless of gender, race, creed, religion, etc.
This.

I really should start considering a new professional basketball team to root for.

In that article Marshall claims fandom for Pittsburgh, Dallas and Detroit. Lebron thinks thats bullshit.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:21 AM
be patient. things will begin to change come March. That’s when Stuckey and Prince (and their new very friendly contracts) become expendable. someone will be willing to trade for them. villanueva will be amnestied next offseason.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:21 AM
I think you would need similar experience to understand the phenomenon.
Actually, CJ, I have had the same experience (hence my divorce). Not as abuser, though. If I’d done the hitting, I’d probably still be in jail.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:22 AM
why did this man shoot a laundromat change machine? …
I know nothing about guns/bullets. Wouldn’t that seem to have potential to ricochet and injure him?
Laundromats are great investments from what I understand.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:26 AM
Mark Whalberg has made two good movies in his life, and in one he played himself. How he continues to get work astonishes me. He is the Adam Sandler of middling action films.
And fuck George Lucas. Him running away from Star Wars is the best thing that could possibly happen to that property.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:27 AM
Laundromats are great investments from what I understand.
I can dig it. Probably controllable fixed expenses (power, water, maintenance). Minimal manning required. Sounds like it could be a solid investment.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:27 AM
I prefer execution this weekend, but the offseason will do. Beggars can’t be choosers.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:28 AM
The one kid watches too much MMA – he tried to pull guard with a guillotine.
Seriously though, the fact that the Asian kid even got up after a few of those kicks and blows to the head (including one with his own shoe?) is amazing. I hope Marky Mark takes cares of those punks.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:28 AM
A former friend was like this. She would only sleep with married guys, then ended up marrying this complete bastard so she could be married and have a kid. This guy abused her physically and emotionally, heck at one time he pointed a gun at her and their kid. He has been arrested twice for domestic battery. She stayed with him as far as I know.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:29 AM
The victim in that video seems tough as nails.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:29 AM
It would have been great if he was successful and emptied all the coins out of it only to find out when he got home that they were all tokens.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
Still be??? There’s a story there…
January 19th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
Boogie Nights, Italian Job, Departed, Fear, etc. I’d give him a little more credit. For some reason I laughed a decent amount at The Other Guys.
/he shot Derek Jeter
January 19th, 2012 at 8:30 AM
That video is the worst Christmas Story tribute I’ve ever seen.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:31 AM
He has been arrested twice for domestic battery. She stayed with him as far as I know.
This is so heartbreaking, and more widespread than most folk realize. I have no pity for domestic abusers. Hammer ‘em as much as the law allows.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:31 AM
Good morning all..it’s -10 in Minneapolis it now with -35 wind chill. Just a wee bit chilly.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:32 AM
Boogie Nights and Departed were the two I was referring to. Forgot about Italian Job, though. Decent flick.
The only time I laughed during The Other Guys is when Sam Jackson and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson jumped off the 20 story building. That was pretty good.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
Three Kings, Shooter, and of course Renaissance Man.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:33 AM
7 kids from the beating video have been arrested or detained. Unfortunately only one of them will be charged as an adult. Turns out the one who will be charged as an adult is the son of a Chicago police officer. There is more to the story here. Some stories say this beating was in retaliation for a previous incident, not that that makes it right. Also the beating victime had $180 cash on him. That seems strange and may call into question what the victim was mixed up in himself.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:35 AM
Shooter – He really is a national hero that can stop terrorism, forehn and dahmestic.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:35 AM
Fuck, forgot about Three Kings, too.
Let me rephrase — Whalberg has only toplined one good movie (Boogie Nights)

January 19th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
I didn’r read this link, but there is a fantastic article with the 20 best job quitting scenes at the bottom of it that is well worth the time.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:37 AM
HTown, no actual jail time; that statement was just a cliche.
Briefly, my ex had an explosive temper. After she hit me the second time, I had to ask myself how to respond.
I was still in uniform at the time, and was concerned that if I ever hit her, I would do time/lose my job/lose my clearance/lose part or all of my retirement pay. But, if I didn’t hit back, I was considered a “punk-ass bitch” who was afraid to stand up for himself. A real dilemma, to be sure.
I am a foot taller and 100 lbs heavier than my ex. I guessed if the cops got involved, I would be the one charged with domestic abuse. So, I divorced her and set her free. We haven’t spoken since.
I’ve known quite a few folk, male and female, who are victims of domestic abuse, and the ones who didn’t leave the relationships have myriad reasons for staying. Their calls, to be sure.

January 19th, 2012 at 8:42 AM
Wahlberg is a limited actor…he is the same whether it is Invincible or The Fighter or The Perfect Sorm. He does a great job at producing movies and TV shows that make him lots of coin.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
Considering everyone but him won awards for that film….
Never saw The Fighter actually, so I can’t comment. It’s been in my Netflix Q for months.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:43 AM
Elisha Cuthbert in ‘Girl Next Door’ is amazing — that movie is underrated.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:44 AM
the movie? not really. just seems like an updated version Risky Business.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:45 AM
Lebatard’s show is fun to watch. There’s no angry pseudo experts yelling their opinion, just some bad jokes… Speaking of which..
Where do you find a dog with no legs? Right where you left it.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:45 AM
I liked Wahlberg in I Heart Huckabees as Tom Corn, failed movie but well played. He was also good in Fear and Basketball Diaries.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:45 AM
I see what you are getting at, but is $180 really that much money? I mean I don’t carry around that much money too often, but it’s not like he had a roll of hundreds or something.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
Do what now?
January 19th, 2012 at 8:46 AM
The Big Hit
January 19th, 2012 at 8:47 AM
the movie? not really. just seems like an updated version Risky Business.
I’m not saying it should be in the conversation with Shawshank and The Godfather — I’ll watch it every time it’s on TV though, it entertains me.

Also, Timothy Olyphant is in Rockstar.

Was -12°F when I walked out the door this morning. This type of cold is more manageable with a good layer of snow on the ground.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:53 AM
Of course. Because when you walk around with $180 cash, you are just begging to be beat senseless by a bunch of masked thugs! What in the world was he thinking?

January 19th, 2012 at 8:54 AM
now, i dunno, but it seems like $180 in cash would be about a half ounce of some nuggy if they get the bro deal. just sayin.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:55 AM
Considering everyone but him won awards for that film….
Right, b/c the rest of the cast were terrible actors/actresses and so many other people could have pulled off his role.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
I rarely have less than $100-200 bucks on me at all times. Guess I’ve been lucky?
January 19th, 2012 at 8:56 AM
I’ll keep that in mind this weekend when I am in short sleeves on the golf course and it is 65* suckers.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:57 AM
She sounds Trinidadian, not a fan of stereotypes but 100% of Trinidadian women are crazy.
Ha! I’d better file that away for the time when I decide to date again.
Actually, she’s Amurrican. She’s a “Tyler Perry”-type (“I’ma slap the taste outta his mouth”) sista. I’m tired of the stereotypical “angry black woman”.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:58 AM
Just saw the long trailer for Will Ferrell’s movie. His wife in that is incendiary.

Bruce Springsteen = Bob Dylan
January 19th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
Certainly didn’t mean to say that $180 in cash on him was an astonomical sum. And obviously carrying some cash doesn’t mean he deserved to get beat up. But it still does seem strange to me, and to me it may be a clue that he had some involvement in drugs. If he just had the cash on him because he was on his way to purhcase a new pair of Jordans, then so be it.
Final thing on the cash, the kids who beat him took it but threw it in a sewer. So apparently they weren’t after money.
January 19th, 2012 at 8:59 AM
Not as difficult to watch as the video where they try to attack someone with a concealed weapon.

That Girl Next Door Movie had the dirtiest “brief nudity” trick in the book. Man ass. But yeah, Elisha Cuthbert missed her nudity window. she’s a little thick for it now, for movie nudity.

January 19th, 2012 at 9:01 AM
This whole “George Lucas raped my childhood” thing is beyond ridiculous at this point.
It’s his movie. He can do what he wants with it.
January 19th, 2012 at 9:02 AM
I haven’t lived in the US for over 10 years, but I can say that there are very few pickpockets / gangsters in my neck of the woods (Asia – Hong Kong / Tokyo / Singapore).

The other side of the coin is my kid. He is in a big Star Wars phase right now, so I find myself spending money and putting George Lucas’ grandkids’ grandkid’s through private school with my expenditures. He is pretty excited, actually, to see Phantom Menace in 3D.

January 19th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
The prequels and Jedi are his movie. A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back are really Gary Kurtz’s movies. There are only two watchable movies in the entire series, and only one actually good one. I think people get pissed about the Star Wars shit because as they get older they realize the movies really don’t hold up very well.
January 19th, 2012 at 9:26 AM
Always wanted to go to Memphis. Must have been a great time SRORD to grow up back then.

January 19th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
Ridiculous. Bruce still puts on phenomenal 3 hour shows and sounds great live. You may not like the newer material but that hardly matters at this point. Dylan overrated? You bet your ass he is. Great writer, pathetic singer/performer. But Bruce brings it on a nightly basis, at a higher level than bands half his age do with their 90 minute sets.
January 19th, 2012 at 9:29 AM
I watched Skytanic and Diversity Hire from Season 1 again last night just for the hell of it. It’s incredible how funny an animated series can be with excellent writing and voice work. The editing and timing on that show is just brilliant.

I actually have more appreciation for Empire and A New Hope as I get older. Partly because I have a greater understanding of cinema, but mostly because the new ones were so bad it made me realize how difficult it was to create a fantastic movie in that world.

I think people get upset if you jerk with their childhood memories. If they put out updated versions of The Catcher in the Rye with a glossed-up ending people would get riled up. Nostalgia is a normal but strong emotion.
Yeah it’s sad when you go on your favorite rollercoaster from your youth and it’s not reall scary, but in the end you just want to take your kid on it and hope it scares them. Shared experience. These hard core Star Wars convention types are holding on too tight.

St Bear, I love this place. Probably a little too much…
Reggie, even with the overt prejudice, Memphis back then could be fun. As kids, we used to wander around the wooded areas, pretending to be John Wayne and whatnot.
Now, with the unemployment and folk just hanging out not trying to better themselves, I don’t enjoy the town as before. My folks are still there, so I still go back to visit.

Bob Hope Tourney is on easier desert courses where a pretty low score wins, so you need a guy that can power it and make bunches of birdies. Go with w/ a guy proven to win by going low.
Just curious, what is your basis for picking? Trying to hit FIRST place or do you get lots of points for top 10′s… kind of impacts how you pick, also – can you pick guys more than once? How many choices you have to make, 1? 4?
January 19th, 2012 at 9:47 AM
John Prine > Bob Dylan > Bruce Springsteen
The Boss may put on a great show, sure, but he falls short of Bobby D in any other measurable category IMO. Now John Prine on the other hand is better than both of them and is a true American treasure. He, however, would also fall short of Bruce’s stage presence.

I’m talking about just the first one, I thought Empire was good… I haven’t seen it in probably 10 years… I saw it when the re-released it in the theater… Isn’t it pretty much Luke wandering around the galaxy trying to figure out who is is… spending some time with yoda, and then the big Death Star scene at the end? Those are the only scenes I remember really. Oh, and Darth Vader obliterating an entire planet with a laser or something.

Munich was profound, Catch Me If You Can was really fun. The man is The Titan of the film industry with his hand all over the place. I begrudge him to do whatever he wants and if he wants to direct one film or 10 in a decade that’s fine.
January 19th, 2012 at 9:53 AM
I’m not even one of the Bruce fanatics, been to maybe 3 shows. But to compare him to Dylan is ridiculous. Dylan sucked when he was supposedly good. If you can write, then write. If you can sing, then sing. Don’t try to do both if you can’t.

January 19th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
A good joke is to just go on a pre Bruce rant and just make it up as you go, impersonating his voice. Like “This song is about all the little girls that grow up with no daddies, and they want to date the high school quarterback. His name is Bobby Walker, but Bobby has some daddy issues of his own — see, big Bobby Walker is a drunk. I wrote this little song about it, this one is called Badlands — TWO, THREE, FOUR!”
January 19th, 2012 at 9:56 AM
Almost all of his movies since then, to me, have been above average but not exactly memorable.

Dude puts his name on way too many projects (e.g. as Executive Producer).
As for his last great film he actually directed? About 15 people say it, but I thought Munich (’05) was brilliant and also Minority Report (’02) was a pretty solid flick — both came out after Saving Private Ryan.

January 19th, 2012 at 10:08 AM
BOB is really almost like a 10 hour movie in terms of production… everything was realistic, minimal CGI… and the stuff that was CGI wasn’t cheap… it was just really well done.
January 19th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Letters from Iwo Jima was so much better.
January 19th, 2012 at 10:09 AM
really? you don’t see the comparison? Tiny Toons was nothing more than an abstract view on Britain’s involvement in the African theatre during world war 2.

Agree… couldn’t make it through it. Clint Eastwood is overrated.
January 19th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
i have a bunch of different criteria…first, think of the course and what type of score will win and then look for players with stats that correlate…like if it’s a birdie fest, i look at putts per GIR and driving distance. for something like a us open or quail hollow or a fedex event, i look at driving distance plus average proximity from fairway, GIR’s, scrambling and putts gained. for narrow courses, driving accuracy and GIR’s and for long, straight courses, driving distance and putts gained are the most important.
so i get my idea of guys that fit that criteria and then think of who’s been playing in good form of late. then i take whomever’s had the most success in previous tourneys here.
then i just guess.
this week i took laird.
January 19th, 2012 at 10:10 AM
aside from the actual invasion and war scenes I wasn’t too crazy about the film. well done, but could have been much better.

I thought this too at first, but after watching some of it again I’ve become more impressed with the Pacific. BOB is still much better, mostly because you get to know the main characters much better, but the scope of the Pacific is something else.
The other problem is that the Pacific war is just so nasty I think it’s hard to really capture it.

perfect casting actually. They loathed Sobel.

The Pacific becomes much, much better on BD when you can watch 2-3 episodes in a row. Really underrated miniseries that suffered because everyone wanted it to be one continuous story like BoB.
January 19th, 2012 at 11:11 AM
Also, Sobel gets a lot less credit that he deserves for shaping the men of Easy Company. Most of those guys didn’t like him, but he was instrumental in turning them into an elite fighting force, something Ambrose made sure to point out.
