Can’t really disagree with Irsay/Grigson’s thinking here. Nothing but retreads and never wills out there left to hire. Players seem to all (or mostly) love him. He and the entire team were blindsided by Manning’s rather sudden turn from out a few more weeks to done for 2011. He/Polian botched the DC and ST coach hirings and the forced exits of Mudd and Moore. And Irsay has publicly admonished his timeout and game management and said it has to improve. But the guy went 24-8 his first two seasons. You can put all the blame for a roster propped up one of the greatest players ever on the head coach. Lots of people have already been fired for this season. I think Caldwell is getting one more “put up or pack your bags” season either with Manning or a rookie season of Luck where if he’s the starter the Colts will likely struggle either way. I’m fine with it. I know people make fun of his sideline demeanor or zombie expression, but that really is just looking for insult material. His fourth-down decisions and timeout management are where he’s struggled. Badly. But not any worse than a lot of active coaches. He’s a fun punching bag. Even I admit that. But he’s far from the team’s biggest issue. One more year, playoffs or bust, whoever is QB-ing sounds about right. In the awful AFC South, that’s not asking the world.

once upon a time Jim Harbaugh was on the Lions. I was at a preseason game when the Lions played the Titans at the old Silverdome. Harbaugh came in and was behind the Lions reserve O-line and had no chance to throw, so he just ran around on every play. a friend of mine said something along the lines of “wow, look at that Jim Harbaugh scramble” just always stuck with me.
/side noteL Harbaugh was cut when Lions traded for Ty Detmer who proceeded to throw 6 or 7 picks in a game against the Browns.

That’s cool. I always figured it was some breakfast dish they served somewhere on the Michigan campus.
