Teams are getting smarter (outside of the Phillies and Marlins). Signing aging relievers to long term contracts usually fail. Rivera being the notable exception. Great move by Jocketty…best signing of the offseason.

Long-term, big money deals for closers often don’t work out well (fuck you, B.J. Ryan). I was quite pleased when the Jays decided to deal for Sergio Santos and his team-friendly deal who and low mileage arm rather than chase an FA closer.

Well according to Mr. Keri Boras is right. There is a whole lot of suck getting better deals than Madson. The Reds got a steal at that price and Madson should probably take a good look at who is representing him.So what have we learned from this? 1. There are a lot of GMs still making stupid decisions 2.
