Scott Boras to MLB GMs: I’m Smarter Than You Are, Why Didn’t You Want Ryan Madson?
Boorish Scott Boras is ticked off that his client, Ryan Madson, couldn’t get a multi-year offer from anyone, so after the Reds signed Madson to a 1-year, $6 million deal, the douchiest of douchy baseball agents reminded GMs he’s smarter than they are:
“As many as eight major league teams have taken great risk in the closer role,” Boras told ESPN. “The game has shown many times that teams need closers with the efficiency to (convert) 85 percent of their save opportunities and the durability to make 60 appearances. Numerous teams didn’t follow those metrics as a criteria for a closer this offseason. They turned their back on the closer role.”

Even simpler. After Papelbon signed and the Sox traded for Bailey, the closer market dried up.
When you have no bidders, you’re screwed.
Players should always SET the market, not let the market come to them.

Just to be clear, it’s really either a 1 year, $8.5 million deal or 2/$15 million.

Maybe because owners are becoming aware that closers are fungible assets outside of Mo Rivera?

Also the best of the best.

Cant wait to see what Fielder has to settle for

Boras isn’t having his best offseason. For Prince Fielder’s sake I hope he rebounds.

Nice pickup by the Reds. Sucks for Madson that talks with the Phillies broke down.

And lucky for Papelbon. I wonder if Paps would of had to settle just like Madson did if Madson resigned with the Phils.

No, that was Eric Roberts.

Brewers offered prince one year 25 million. Looks like the nationals are bidding against themselves.

Well according to Mr. Keri Boras is right. There is a whole lot of suck getting better deals than Madson. The Reds got a steal at that price and Madson should probably take a good look at who is representing him.
So what have we learned from this?
1. There are a lot of GMs still making stupid decisions
2. Mr. Boras obviously sucks at musical chairs

Excuse me?

Tommy had a chance to finish Dae Han and jsut sat there, costing Murica the victory. Not BoB material no matter how many sequels he was in.

Long-term, big money deals for closers often don’t work out well (fuck you, B.J. Ryan). I was quite pleased when the Jays decided to deal for Sergio Santos and his team-friendly deal who and low mileage arm rather than chase an FA closer.

Be that as it may, Eric Roberts was clearly on the undercard on that day.

All this means is that Ruben Amaro is a dummy.

When oh when will Boras stop boring us and go the way of Leigh Steinberg?
January 13th, 2012 at 4:35 PM
when you call Boras douchy you are praising him because in truth he is a sleazy, scumbag piece of shit equivalent to pussy that hasn’t had a shower two weeks after gang banging a football team.

Teams are getting smarter (outside of the Phillies and Marlins). Signing aging relievers to long term contracts usually fail. Rivera being the notable exception. Great move by Jocketty…best signing of the offseason.
