2012 NFL Mock Draft 4.0
2012 NFL Mock Draft 3.0, Dec. 23, 2011
2012 NFL Mock Draft 2.0, Oct. 6, 2011
2012 NFL Mock Draft 1.0, May 4, 2011
The next one will come after the NFL combine next month.
1. Colts – Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
2. Rams – Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma St.
3. Vikings – Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU
4. Browns – Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor. Don’t love him, but Colt McCoy was that bad.
5. Buccaneers – Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College. Everyone has Tampa going DB, but this is the worst run D in the NFL.
6. Redskins – Matt Kalil, OL, USC. Go QB later in the draft and hope you find an Andy Dalton … or wait for next year.
7. Jaguars – Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina. Shoots up the board because new coach Mike Mularky needs a weapon for Blaine Gabbert.
8. Panthers – Quinton Coples, DE, UNC. Everyone wants Cam to add a WR, but there are plenty of those available. Gotta improve that horrid defense. Nice bookend for Johnson.
9. Dolphins – Jonathan Martin, OL. See Washington’s strategy for QB, or consider Peyton Manning if he’s healthy. The Bush/Thomas RB combo in 2012 will like Martin.
10. Bills – Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama. Second straight Alabama 1st round pick for the Bills bolsters the 5th-worst rush D in the NFL.
11. Chiefs – Riley Reiff, OL, Iowa. Whether it’s Orton or Cassel, the QB – and Charles – will be thrilled. Strongly considered Trent Richardson here.
12. Seahawks - David DeCastro, OL, Stanford – Seattle’s bad QB, T Jack, was sacked 42 times. Only one QB was sacked more (Alex Smith).
13. Cardinals - Devon Still, DT, Penn State. Good fit for a bad 3-4 defense.
14. Cowboys - Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama. He probably won’t fall this far, but he’d be a terrific upgrade over Terrence Newman.
15. Eagles – Zach Brown, LB, UNC.
16. Jets – Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia. New OC Tony Sparano will evaluate the OL and say, “you want ground and pound? We need a new lineman because Wayne Hunter sucks.”
17. Bengals (from Raiders)Â – Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama. Cedric Benson’s a free agent. Richardson could be the steal of the draft.
18. Chargers – Michael Brockers, DT, LSU. Replacement for Luis Castillo.
19. Bears – David Wilson, RB, Virginia Tech. Forte’s coming off an injury. Groom Wilson for a year, then he takes over.
20. Titans – Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi St. In a division with MJD & the run-happy Texans, the 24th best run D needs to improve immediately.
21. Bengals – Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska. Defense was improved in 2011, but the secondary was shaky at times.
22. Browns (from Atlanta) – Lamar Miller, RB, Miami. With Hillis leaving, Miller could start immediately.
23. Lions – Mark Barron, S, Alabama. Detroit will be a popular Super Bowl pick in the NFC.
24. Steelers – Jayron Hosley, CB, Virginia Tech. If you don’t like him, go with Gilmore or Jenkins or Minnifield. But cornerback is a need.
25. Broncos – Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford. Too high? Perhaps. But what a safety valve he becomes for Tim Tebow. And if Tebow fails, the next QB inherits a terrific TE.
26. Giants – Dont’a Hightower, LB, Alabama. Same as last mock.
27. Texans – Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor. Let the Super Bowl chatter begin, much like how Atlanta was crowned after the Julio Jones pick in 2011.
28. Patriots (from Saints) – Whitney Mercilius, DE, Illinois. The joke never gets old – they’ll trade this pick, right?
29. 49ers – Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina. Think he’ll blow up at the Combine and go higher. No change from last mock.
30. Ravens – Vontaze Burfict, LB, Arizona St. Had this in the last mock, and I’ll very likely stick with it the rest of the way.
31. Patriots – Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame. It’ll never happen, but goodness, that offense would be disgusting.
32. Packers – Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia. Secondary is the only flaw, right?

why isn’t Lisk doing this?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:27 PM
CB and OL are definitely needs going into this draft. I’m hoping this draft class is heavily defensive.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:28 PM
Vikings are not passing on Kalil. Their OL is hot garbage and old. Rams are trading out of 2 to get multiple picks. Could see ‘Skins moving up to 2 to take RG3 if they don’t get Peyton or Flynn.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:28 PM
Is there really any way that Kalil falls to 6th?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:29 PM
Jeffrey is going to run a slow 40 and be fat at the combine. Can’t imagine he is drafted in the top 10.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:29 PM
LOL. Sure. But then again, maybe we should take Kalil though, the OLine needs help.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:29 PM
because Lisk didn’t watch many games…oh wait…
January 13th, 2012 at 1:30 PM
is this real life?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
TBLJason McIntyre: Are these mock drafts what you would do, or what you think will happen?January 13th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
defensive line
January 13th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
Jmac, where are your picks for the weekend?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
I am going to keep beating this drum, but Steelers are not going CB early in the draft because it is not a need.
Are you solely basing that on Ike having a bad game? The Steelers finished #1 in pass defense (admittedly, the yardage rankings are flawed). They draft the best NT, OG or LB in the 1st 2 rounds.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:31 PM
Everybody seems to need Corners and O Lineman. Shit. Not used to drafting this far up.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:32 PM
why isn’t Lisk doing this?
Because mock drafts are stupid?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
Thirty dollars says neither is the first round pick.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
Hakeem Nicks
January 13th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
25. Broncos – Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford. Too high? Perhaps. But what a safety valve he becomes for Tim Tebow. And if Tebow fails, the next QB inherits a terrific TE.
Denver drafted 2 TEs last year and they like ‘em both. I’d love to see them take Burfict.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:33 PM
Especially before the season ends and the actual order of picks has yet to be determined.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:34 PM
Two things. No and fuck no.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:34 PM
Are Trent Williams and Jamaal Brown that bad that the Redskins would draft another high OT?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
They are…but I love reading them. The Draft is awesome. It blends college football and pro together perfectly.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
Because he’s focusing on the actual games being played this weekend, not this stupid shit.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:35 PM
For some reason I have a feeling RGIII will be there for Miami’s taking at 9. Maybe just wishful thinking, I would love to see him succeed, but not in Cleveland.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:36 PM
32. Packers – Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia. Secondary is the only flaw, right?
You could probably make an argument that their lack of pass rush is a bigger problem than their secondary.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:37 PM
My brain explodes every time I read these Mock Drafts by you TBL. you realize they don’t happen in a vacuum. Teams that spent high picks on 1 position* last year won’t spend a 1st rounder on it this year.
*does not apply to QB or WR when Matt Millen was a GM
January 13th, 2012 at 1:37 PM
Yeah, but they’re fun as hell though, especially for teams already out of the playoffs. It’s like something to root for while you wait.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:37 PM
That’s most likely true, it’ll probably be DL or LB and either is fine with me.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:38 PM
wha?
/throws shit against wall
//sees where it sticks
///writes down results
January 13th, 2012 at 1:39 PM
If they’re the latter, I’m interested how one would know what those teams with a general manager right now are going to do in 3 months time.
Like, why the Bears would select a running back when they’re clearly going to franchise Forte and have Khalil Bell as a perfectly capable backup. Everyone and their mother has the Bears selecting Floyd right now.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:39 PM
no one can succeed in Cleveland.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:39 PM
That’s why I asked if this is what he thinks will happen or what he thinks SHOULD happen. You need to state that at the top of the post I think.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:40 PM
With Hamptons ACL tear and Hoke probable retirement, they really need a NT. I hope there is a good one in the draft, but not so good he goes before the Steelers pick.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:40 PM
Yeah, this sums it up pretty well. Just fun to toss shit against the wall and see what sticks. Or at least makes a funny image once it splatters.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:40 PM
without* a general manager
January 13th, 2012 at 1:41 PM
Vikings SHOULD take Kalil with the pick. They probably will fuck it up and go with someone like Alshon Jeffery.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:42 PM
TBL should at least put up his 2011 mock draft side by side with the actual draft in these posts.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:43 PM
im beginning to believe this.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:43 PM
I think Brockers will be a much higher pick than 18. I think Michael Floyd will go before 31, too. The Lions getting Mark Barron would be huge. He or Dennard would be a great addition.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:43 PM
Here’s an idea. Have Lisk go back and look at the first three mock drafts and then this one. Run an analysis of how the hell these picks came about. Again, to use the Bears as an example… why would the selections go from a LB in May, to a DT in October, then a OL in December and now a RB in January?
This is NOT what I would call a fluid situation.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:43 PM
I bet Branden Smith is shocked to see you forgot him on this draft.
/sighs
January 13th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
Like the Dolphins taking an offensive lineman.
Not. Happening.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:44 PM
isn’t his weakness in coverage?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:45 PM
Read he didn’t need surgery, but with his age and weight it seems like it’s pretty much the same thing. I don’t he’ll be much more than a body anymore, which is sad. But he had a great run and has been a great Steeler. I’m hoping there’s one as well, and the scouting dept is right more often than not so that’s a nice plus.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:45 PM
Cleveland Clinic has had a pretty good run..
/all I got
January 13th, 2012 at 1:46 PM
Like the Dolphins taking an offensive lineman.
Not. Happening.
Yeah… Whatever fans they haven’t driven away would riot if this happened. They already have 4? OL they drafted in the first round.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:47 PM
Is it a weakness or merely not as good as his run stuffing? I know Saban hates using more than the front 7 to stuff the run, so surely he was in coverage often. I think Dennard would be a better pick, but he may not be there at 23.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:47 PM
Why isn’t Lisk doing this?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:48 PM
/redzone’d
January 13th, 2012 at 1:48 PM
Hold on! You idiots don’t have the Seahawks trading up to get a USC guy. What the hell is wrong with you?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:49 PM
lol
January 13th, 2012 at 1:51 PM
only QB that millen drafted in rd 1 was Joey.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:52 PM
DeCasto is from Seattle and Stanford guys have been working out for the Seahwawks so I could see it – Carroll has been using his high picks on OL also. I think Seattle likes Russell Wilson – does anybody know what round he is expected to go?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:53 PM
You’ve got the Texans picking the right guy, but too high. They won’t take him until no. 32.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:53 PM
THEY KILLED SEKOU TOURE!
January 13th, 2012 at 1:53 PM
This. They actually love their young CB’s, Lewis and Brown in particular. Oline / Dline are the immediate needs. With injuries and age, both lines are an absolute mess.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:54 PM
Has Carroll picked ANY USC guys? I know Mays was pissed at him for picking Earl Thomas instead of him
January 13th, 2012 at 1:54 PM
Yep, that’s a list of 32 names alright.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:54 PM
JHS – those were separate thoughts that I poorly worded. Millen only applied to the WR position.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:55 PM
/Myth’d? Because…no. FWIW, Jeffrey played ~8 lbs lighter all season than he did his SOPH year…but, but all means, let’s let the internet determine that he gained a bunch of weight.
Also…
No. The Skins have 2 starting OTs already. Line is a need, but not this high. I think they make the trade for Griffin, but if not, and everything else you predict ahead of them happens, then I see Kirkpatrick as a no-brainer.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:55 PM
He’s listed at 5-11, which means he could be 5-10. I doubt he goes very high.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:56 PM
Compared to Blackmon, Floyd and Wright he will look like a doughboy and he’ll be slow.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:57 PM
Richardson won’t be there @ 17 (IMO)
January 13th, 2012 at 1:57 PM
Why didn’t Russell Wilson just take the Rockies money?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:57 PM
When I think of the Bears I always think: you know what the offense needs? A RB. If that team had a running back then their elite WRs would be even more elite instead of just regular elite.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:59 PM
@Jay V – You liked Griffin right?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:59 PM
because he wanted to play football.
January 13th, 2012 at 1:59 PM
why draft WR when they are just going to sign Reggie Wayne or acquire Brandon Lloyd?
January 13th, 2012 at 1:59 PM
If Floyd or Jeffrey or Wright are there I don’t see how CHI doesn’t take one of them.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:00 PM
When I think of the Bears I always think: you know what the offense needs? A RB. If that team had a running back then their elite WRs would be even more elite instead of just regular elite.
Do you know how good Roy Williams would be? DO YOU?
January 13th, 2012 at 2:00 PM
Mularky is all about the run game. No way they reach for a WR. I think they go DE (Couples) or may even take Richardson here.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:00 PM
And 10 years later, when he’s played in 6 Pro Bowls, that won’t matter jack.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:01 PM
Most definitely. I want the Skins to do whatever it takes to get him.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:02 PM
But only after they’ve drafted a RB. Because that’s what they clearly need in the first round.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:02 PM
like those posts will go up before 7pm tonight.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:02 PM
I see the Steelers taking the best available OL/NT/DB in the first round, preferably OL as the priority.
Part of the Steelers draft issues will be determined by CAP issues. Even before they draft anyone, they’re projected to be $20 million over the cap, and they still have FA’s that need resigned (M. Wallace). Players such as Ward, Hampton, Kemouatu, Essex, Starks, Harrison, etc. may be gonzo and dictate where the draft leans.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:02 PM
Jay V going all in on his boy!
January 13th, 2012 at 2:02 PM
See, for instance, Mike Williams and Charles Rogers?
January 13th, 2012 at 2:03 PM
Yea, I didn’t understand that. Did the old coach NOT need a weapon for Gabbert? Mularky is considered ultra-conservative.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:03 PM
He reminds me a little of Troy Smith, I would think he’d go 3rd-5th.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:03 PM
6 Pro Bowls in 10 years? I’ll take that bet.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:04 PM
He’s listed at 5-11, which means he could be 5-10. I doubt he goes very high.
Thanks – I guess since all the lineman are 6’5′ that 5’11′ isn’t any worse than 6’2 or 3′ – none of them can see through the line, lol
January 13th, 2012 at 2:04 PM
Bears should go Offensive Coordinator in the first round…
January 13th, 2012 at 2:04 PM
Fixed.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:05 PM
Hawks aren’t taking another OL, they just need a QB that is athletic and doesn’t hold the ball as long as an old school MC. They had too many injuries, but the OL is going to be fine for years to come. They take a DL if they don’t trade down or up.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:05 PM
This made me laugh.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:05 PM
Richardson won’t be there @ 17 (IMO)
No chance of it. He’s the next Adrian Peterson — when he’s torching NFL defenses next year people will ask how he went in the 6-12 range.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:05 PM
See, for instance…wait…why would I even bother to respond? What in the hell do Mike Williams & Charles Rogers have to do with Alshon Jeffrey? They both play WR? You are on a roll of stupidity across the board, bro.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:05 PM
paying the playoffs would blend them better.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:06 PM
Really? people think Russell is similar to Troy Smith? Russell was a good passer in college, T. Smith was more of a runner
January 13th, 2012 at 2:06 PM
The fuck? Harrison isn’t going anywhere. Hampton will probably stick around but start on the PUP list. Ward will take a paycut and stay. Kemo, Essex and Starks are gone. Mewelde, Cotchery, Hoke and A. Smith as well (latter two retire).
I think all the OL needs is a OG. The rest will shake out ok, which by Steeler standards, probably means the best OL since SB 40.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:06 PM
i’ve been hearing they are going to restructure the deals with big ben and polamalu before they do anything else this offseason to make room.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:06 PM
And Todd Gurley picks the Dawgs. Sweet.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:06 PM
I cant wait to see where RGIII goes. dont like him at the skins or browns though.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:06 PM
Dude, obvious hyperbole. But he’s going to be an NFL star, of that, I have little doubt.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:07 PM
Because as KLaw said, he would be stuck in the minors for 3-4 years.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:08 PM
Mike Williams 2.0.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:08 PM
That seems to take them out of the Mike Davis sweepstakes…and Mike Davis is in Columbia tomorrow…I smell a commitment!
January 13th, 2012 at 2:08 PM
Say wha?
January 13th, 2012 at 2:09 PM
Had to fire up the google for this one
January 13th, 2012 at 2:10 PM
I have doubts on Julio, and Julio is much better than Alshon. I know he’s from your school, but he wasn’t all that special this year, and if you are truly an elite WR, you should always get yours. He didn’t do that this year. He’s good, but I don’t see him being elite in the NFL.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:10 PM
Previously: why the hell would Seattle fortify their line if they have a bad QB?
January 13th, 2012 at 2:10 PM
Because mock drafts are stupid?
couldnt agree more. i dont understand the obsession with them.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:11 PM
I was never really sure why Davis was looking at UGA. He was pissy with Florida for recruiting other backs and UGA always said they wanted 2 or 3 this class. Surely he’s either FSU or SoCar bound.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:11 PM
careful, JayV will come back at you with all kinds of analysis of why this is stupid.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:13 PM
No surgery…he will be full go, and ready by July.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:13 PM
And he isn’t good at baseball.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:15 PM
Julio 179-2653-15
Alshon 179-2894-22
Julio “got his” during his SO year…43-596, 4TDs.
In any event, if you don’t think Alshon’s year and #s weren’t affected by the Garcia fiasco, then I don’t….never mind, I know you are aware of this.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:16 PM
Thats good, but he’ll be 450 lbs by may while he rests and heals. No way he is in shape come training camp. Hell, his conditioning was always a question mark when he was younger and healthier.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:16 PM
No…and, unlike others, I won’t solidify my status as a troll extraordinaire either.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:18 PM
My only fear is that he wants carries as a true FR…and I don’t think those carries are going to be there at SC next yr.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:18 PM
You’re right. They should draft a QB instead, and watch that line ruin him, a la David Carr.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:19 PM
I would bet the opposite…he is going to be doing so much strength and conditioning training for the stabilization of the knee, that he has a better chance to come back in better shape than before.
Much like the Tommy John guys who claim it added velocity, but really it was just the hard work/rehab that increased their strength.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:20 PM
Same guy that wrote the quoted part from this post wrote the thing questioning Seattle’s fortifying their OL. Seriously.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:20 PM
lollercaust
January 13th, 2012 at 2:21 PM
I think FSU makes the most sense for him in terms of playing right away. SC has two guys well ahead of him and UGA will have Crowell (if he’s still there) as well as Marshall and Gurley. I still think Gurley would be a hell of a safety, though.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:21 PM
Was the OL bad? Yes. Was David Carr a good QB? Never was, never will be. Carr gets more credit than he deserves hiding behind that bad OL.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:22 PM
Also, I don’t think you can compare numbers from SC’s offense to Alabama’s as they differ in philosophy. I also think anyone with half a brain would say that Julio >> Alshon.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:22 PM
If you don’t like Mock Drafts why would you click on a link about mock drafts, read an article about mock drafts, and then comment on an article about mock drafts?
I’m gonna go read up about the Kardashians. And then do some commentin’
January 13th, 2012 at 2:24 PM
Was the OL bad? Yes. Was David Carr a good QB? Never was, never will be. Carr gets more credit than he deserves hiding behind that bad OL.
so true. carr was total garbage, and cared too much about his hair.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:26 PM
I hope you are right Babar. Steelers need a full strength and healthy Hampton next year.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:26 PM
I agree with weinerpig
January 13th, 2012 at 2:27 PM
Really? people think Russell is similar to Troy Smith? Russell was a good passer in college, T. Smith was more of a runner
This is false, I can see the comparison, except, sadly, Troy Smith was much better in college
January 13th, 2012 at 2:28 PM
careful, JayV will come back at you with all kinds of analysis of why this is stupid.
can’t let things like watching everyone of the guys games at SC get in the way of your commentary, right?
January 13th, 2012 at 2:30 PM
My fault. I should’ve known.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:31 PM
Alshon Jeffery looks fat. He will probably look fat at the combine and probably not run a very good 40. This could cause him to fall to the late first round. Doesn’t mean he won’t be a stud in the NFL. The draft is a mysterious creature
January 13th, 2012 at 2:38 PM
I have no idea what point you are trying to make. If it’s that Jay is a homer in the tank for Jeffrey, I agree. That’s pretty obvious.
Jeffrey’s conditioning/chubbiness indicates something less than the amount of dedication needed to be an elite NFL WR, which is what JayV is predicting.
January 13th, 2012 at 2:49 PM
They’ll restructure Hines (if they even want him) from 4 mil to 1.5 mil, and they need to do something with Farrior. Best free agent signing in franchise history and a helluva player/guy, but it’s over. His speed is gone and he can’t shed a block. Ben, Troy, Harrison at minimum will need to restructure. And throw Ike in there too after that game. If they somehow keep this team in contention through this transition period in the next 2 years, Kevin Colbert will have done an unbelievable job.

Sleeper of the draft – Ryan Lindley QB SDSU.
Quick release, good mechanics – looks a lot like Aaron Rodgers. I’m anxious to see how he does at the combine. He’s a steal if he makes it to the 2nd round.

But the Auburn fan would love to see the Falcons trade up for Courtney Upshaw. Good gawd he’s a beast.

CB is not a huge need for the Steelers. This year’s rookies, Curtis Brown and Cortez Allen, are very promising, and Keenan Lewis is finally showing he can play in the league. Trust me, they’re not taking a CB in the first round. I expect they will take an OG or a NT.
