Saints March On To San Francisco With 2nd Half Explosion, 45-28 Over Lions
The young Detroit Lions came out hot early, scoring a touchdown on the first drive, and then getting a fumble from Marques Colston that ended the first Saints drive. Drew Brees also fumbled in the second half on a play where his arm was hit before coming forward, and the Lions recovered and were starting to run back what looked like a potential defensive touchdown. The officials blew it dead for an incomplete pass, but then ruled it a fumble. The Lions could not score, and the story of the first half was Detroit not putting up enough points with the opportunities they were given.
Detroit led 14-10 at the half, but the second half belonged to the Saints offense and Drew Brees, and the Lions had no answer. New Orleans went 5 for 5 on touchdown drives. The Lions couldn’t stop Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles running it, and Thomas continually broke tackles and got extra yards. When the linebackers didn’t get deep enough trying to help stop the run, though, Brees carved them up over the top. Coach Sean Payton also knew he was in a shootout, and did not play it conservatively. New Orleans went for fourth down three times, converting all three, including a 4th and inches in his own territory, and a 4th and 2 just past midfield to extend drives.
New Orleans finished with over 600 yards of total offense, Drew Brees passed for 466 yards and 3 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Calvin Johnson had a beast game in defeat, and maybe Cris Carter will now recognize that he is the best receiver in the game–12 catches for 211 yards and 2 touchdowns. New Orleans takes their high powered offense to San Francisco next, in a battle of unstoppable force against the 49ers’ immovable rush defense and stout front 7. Expect the Saints to open as a road favorite in the Divisional Round.

Well those games both sucked.

Saints are the better team. Lions didn’t capitalize on turnovers and other opportunities. Defense sucked and couldn’t tackle for shit. Refs? Whatever, gotta overcome that. Fire Cunningham. Let Avril and Tulloch walk. Sign/Draft a LB, CB and Safety.

First game was good til the 4th quarter. 2nd game was good til mid 3rd quarter. The sucky game will be tomorrow in Denver.
/waiting for Breesus to come in and bitch about the media coverage of the Saints for no reason at all.

I look forward to betting on SF as a home underdog. Brees outside on grass is just not the same player, and like usual offense is overrated and defense is underrated. Saints O will definitely get their points, but their defense is just awful so SF will get more.

Go Niners!

At least you’re still not bitching about Stafford.
January 7th, 2012 at 11:56 PM
And yet his dumb fucking ass will still be all over ESPN next week.

Stafford is my boy. Proved a lot the past 4 games. Really don’t know why they stopped going to Calvin late 2nd quarter. And hated that fucking 3rd and 4 call to Titus.
January 8th, 2012 at 12:31 AM
Ha! No commenter hated on any player more than you hated on Stafford. It was hilarious. I didn’t care who won this game, but the only good that came from this Lions loss is that a shitty, horrible fan like you didn’t get to enjoy a playoff win…

He proved himself. He ain’t the problem any longer. It’s the defense.
January 8th, 2012 at 12:43 AM
If I were the Lions I’d spend my entire draft on the defense.
January 8th, 2012 at 12:44 AM
Lions rushed for 32 yards. Yeah, Calving Johnson got his, but who on the 49ers is even in his zip code of talent? If the Saints hit 24 points in Frisco, it’s over.
January 8th, 2012 at 12:46 AM
And Lisk. Can we get an NFL sucks post? Because this game was about as much fun as watching Floyd the Barber crochet. 1,000+ yards on offense. 466 passing for Brees. 380 for Stafford. 50+ combined first downs. No punts for the Saints. It’s flag football.

Breesus shouldn’t. I’m slowly accepting the fact that if the Saints somehow win the whole thing, we’ll be lumped in the villain class, so he needs to polish up on his Ric Flair like I have.
“Like or not, learn to love it, cause it’s the best thing going!! WOOO!!”

Heldover, lions have no running game. Niners can easily get 150 on the ground against the saints.

Look forward to it. If Gregg “I blitz too much” Williams actually gets pressure early on Alex Smith…duck and cover.

Ha. Everyone complaining about this game being boring because the defenses sucked will be complaining Monday night that the LSU-Bammer game is boring because there’s too much defense.
January 8th, 2012 at 1:51 AM
LSU is going to bitch-slap Alabama. Blow out city. Seriously: 44-10 LSU.
January 8th, 2012 at 2:14 AM
49ers in 1.

This is totally stupid, BTW. Saints D is for shit. And it’s spelled ‘San Francisco’, half-wit.
January 8th, 2012 at 9:12 AM
I still have my bet on PIT getting away with more holding today. Insane how much NO held without a flag though.
January 8th, 2012 at 9:22 AM
If the Detroit secondary could hold onto a ball this game would have been very different. Or if the refs didn’t give the Saints an extra two yards on every spot.
Finally catching up on all this Bill OBrien stuff and watched the presser. Think he’ll be fantastic, and keeping LJ Sr was my only request and he did it. I also want him to kick Jay Paterno in the nuts, but doubt he’ll follow through on that one.

Somber morning knowing there won’t be any more games for Lion fans to whine about officiating this season
Go Niners! (A guy can dream)
January 8th, 2012 at 10:34 AM
Looking at the boxscore as I was in a bit of a drunk last night, didn’t even realize Jimmy Graham had a relatively quiet game and they still put up 600 yards…Jesus
January 8th, 2012 at 10:44 AM
naw. we bitch about the officiating in ALL games.
Here’s to Eli getting another playoff win in Lambeau.
