Ballin’: Better Alley-Oop – Rudy Fernandez No-Look, Over-the-Head, or Chris Paul to Blake Griffin?
Denver 110, Sacramento 83: Will anyone throw a better alley-oop this season than the no-look, over-the-head lob from Rudy Fernandez to Kenneth Faried? It seems unlikely. Jimmer: 3-for-13. The Kings played no defense (again) and the 5-2 Nuggets shot 60 percent. You want balance? Twelve players took the court for the Nuggets. Everyone scored between 6 and 15 points.
LA Clippers 117, Houston 89: Blake Griffin scored 22, Chris Paul had 20, and this one wasn’t competitive in the second half.
Miami 118, Indiana 83: Dwyane Wade did not play (foot). They probably saved him for tonight’s game on TNT in Atlanta. You know the Heat want payback for the beating earlier this week. LeBron had 33 points and 13 assists before tweaking an ankle; he might not play tonight. The Pacers had 12 assists.
Orlando 103, Washington 85: Who will be the next Wizards’ coach? Ledell Eackles? Brandon Walsh? Kadeem Haridson? Dwight Howard had 28 points and 20 rebounds, Ryan Anderson went for 23-15, and the Wizards never drew within single digits after the first quarter. Good news for the Wiz – John Wall didn’t have a turnover in 33 minutes!
Memphis 90, Minnesota 86: The Wolves’ four losses are by a total of 13 points. Ricky Rubio’s line: 12 points, 10 assists in a season-high 31 minutes. He seems to be at the center of every comeback for the Wolves. He and Kevin Love (27 points and 14 assists) are a great foundation. If they could only package Beasley and Wesley Johnson (he went to Syracuse, has not really been the wing I thought he’d be) for a take-over shooting guard …
Philadelphia 101, New Orleans 93: Andre Iguodala only shot 2-of-10, but he did throw this down.
Charlotte 118, New York 110: How many times can I use the word “embarrassing” to describe the Knicks this season? First Toronto, now this? At home, no less? The Bobcats rolled into MSG, shot 55 percent, had 27 assists against just 13 turnovers, and snapped a four-game losing streak. Tubby Boris Diaw, who couldn’t stay out of foul trouble against Cleveland Tuesday, scored 27 points. Byron Mullens, who scored 39 points in the last two seasons, tallied 16. Mike D’Antoni had to deal with “We want Shum-pert” chants (he scored 18 points) in the 4th quarter. Hey Baron Davis, is that herniated dick improving?

D’Antoni on thin ice with you, Jason? I know it’s early, but this is getting ridiculous.

TBL, you bailing on Flip? IIRC, he was your preseason choice for coach of the year in last season’s preview post.
January 5th, 2012 at 10:22 AM
Still early … but he knows he has to get them beyond the 1st round of the playoffs this year or he won’t be back. Unfortunately for him, it seems like the season hinges upon Baron Davis.

so he hasn’t lost enough of your respect that you’re even taking a half day off or anything?

If only they had anything of value left to trade for D’antonis Canadian wizard but instead they allowed Denver to fleece them.

so andrea bargnani and demar derozan, huh?

Addicted. Just please don’t mock me for it.

Byron Mullens, who scored 39 points in the last two seasons
Good for him. Grew up dirt poor and only went to the draft for the money to help his family.

Thought you were joking, JHS. Looked it up.

Mock-worthy.

When I look at New Jersey’s 1-6 record, I can’t believe they won a game. That team is awful.
January 5th, 2012 at 10:46 AM
Dude. No mention of Derrick Rose’s elbow injury? I was kinda hoping you’d have video. I didn’t get to see it with class. Just happened to see it on Twitter on the way home.
January 5th, 2012 at 10:47 AM
hey, we’ve all had some bad predictions, that one just happened to be particularly horrible.
January 5th, 2012 at 10:48 AM
The Pistons suck and will suck for the foreseeable future.

this just in: Tall Black people are able to dunk!
January 5th, 2012 at 10:49 AM
Wow, you really must be a fan of Baron Davis.
January 5th, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Sixers playing strong on the road, 18 of next 22 are at home, and Evan Turner looked really good last night. Good times.
January 5th, 2012 at 10:53 AM
Bargnani looks like a different player this year. I think Coach Casey has brain ninja’d him into believing he’s Dirk. If DeMar has added three point range to his game, he could be a 20 ppg guy. Guys won’t be able to play him so soft to take away the drive.

Just think how the majority of America had the Rams winning the NFC West before the season started. Oops.
January 5th, 2012 at 10:57 AM
If Derozan can keep shooting like he has, this team could be interesting if they could find a complimentary wing.

The NBA coming out with its all-star ballots yesterday was quite hilarious. Five games in! VOTE!

The Wolves were looking good in the second half until both Rubio and LR were on the floor together. Johnson took a couple bad shots and allowed the Grizz back in the game. The second Beasley stops taking bad shots and just going to the rim more, the better they will be. Beasley, Rubio, and Love with Williams learning the game a little more could be a really good combination.
January 5th, 2012 at 10:59 AM
I had the Cards winning the division.

They didn’t move AS Weekend to the middle of this season, only have about a month to go
January 5th, 2012 at 11:01 AM
Disappointing that I won’t be able to vote for Scalabrine. I would have casted the maximum number of votes allowed for the White Mamba. He and Joel Anthony could have made a dominant force up front in the East. Maybe add Charlie V in there and you’ve got an unstoppable combo.

Plays in big market, 4th in counting stats among D in the Eastern Conference (which voters take as gospel). Not an egregious selection.
January 5th, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Looks like he’s alright, just a bruise or something. Much more concerning is CJ’s dislocated elbow- hopefully he gets back in the lineup soon.
January 5th, 2012 at 11:08 AM
Watson? that sucks.
January 5th, 2012 at 11:10 AM
Dirt is having a special day. I’m enjoying it.
January 5th, 2012 at 11:14 AM
Yep. I was a bit shocked to see John Lucas get some decent run against the Hawks the other day before I knew about the elbow injury to CJ. Looks like he’s just day-to-day though, so he’ll probably be back soon.
January 5th, 2012 at 11:22 AM
I’m not sure he can continue shooting 62.5% from 3 …. he was 5-52 last year! Now, 9-33 on long 2′s, much more realistic.
January 5th, 2012 at 11:23 AM
Wow. The NBA is retarded. Just cancel that shit so teams dont have B2B2B games.
January 5th, 2012 at 11:23 AM
chicago – CJ is one of my alltime favorite Tennessee players. I sat behind a bunch of his family at a game over Christmas break during undergrad. Buzz Peterson was still the coach and we were pretty sucky and there weren’t many people at the game. his mom was yelling at him the whole time and it was obvious he could hear her too. he’d be bringing the ball up the court and shaking his head and smiling.
January 5th, 2012 at 11:56 AM
I love the guy, miz. He’s the perfect player for this Bulls team and is an awesome leader of the “benchmob”. Seems like an all-around good dude, too.
January 5th, 2012 at 12:22 PM
miz: Here here. CJ was great at UT and one of the only bright spots of the Buzz area. Such a solid basketball player.
January 5th, 2012 at 12:22 PM
area=era. Balls.
