Michigan State’s Football Players Watched a 7-Foot Alligator Bite its Handler Last Week
As Michigan State prepared for its bowl game against Georgia, Spartans’ coach Mark Dantonio decided to invite an alligator to practice. The gator’s handler dressed up in Michigan State gear, and everyone thought it was cool … until the handler slipped and fell and the alligator bit him. The Spartans recoiled in horror:
In the end, the players saw firsthand what could happen when the alligator bit and clamped down on the handler’s leg. Dantonio said the handler wasn’t seriously injured.
How do you define “wasn’t seriously injured?” A dozen stitches? Maybe he only lost a chunk of flesh the size of a silver dollar? Animal suggestions for next year’s bowl game: Giraffe, emu, armadillo, platypus, or a kangaroo. [Freep]

The handler was thinking of gingers and their demonic plague on our society.

Speaking of golf, Spencer, I’m fresh in the middle of my usual winter slump. Even the new golf net in the backyard isn’t helping. Swing feels short. I’m trying to lift the ball, weights on my right side, limited hip action…and I can’t break out of it.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:35 AM
Reminds me of the video of the cop who is in a clas teaching kids about the dangers of gun violence and shoots himself in the leg. Great video.

I said Timmy’s pic was awesome, not the pic of Jimmy Clausen. Lick my non-existent balls.
Also, check out this super cute baby Francois Langur.

that was me for like the last 6 rounds of the year. couldn’t get any turn in my waist.

Way OT here but I’ve been following a sad Auburn story this morning. Drew Cole, a senior on the football team who never really played, got in a car accident two days ago. His girlfriend was killed. His dog was in the car and I think they assumed it ran from the crash and died but somebody spotted it last night. Some Auburn people started a facebook page and everybody went out looking for it. They’ve been posting updates all morning. They found the dog, injured, and scared and it kept running away from people. They finally got Drew to go out there himself and the dog went running to him. Small victory in that tragedy. Thought I’d share for the dog lovers.

try this…get into your stance and shift your hips like you would thru impact and bring your hands so the club is parallel to the ground. it’s like your starting your swing, not from address, but from the position past impact.
this helped me out big time in getting the feel of shifting the weight to the left side AS WELL as getting really nice width in the backswing. plus, by starting back with more momentum, it’ll be easier to groove staying on plane.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:40 AM
I had been hitting the ball so well too. Attacking pins, making putts. Went to the range one day, felt great. Played the next day, hit my 170 yd club about 150 and that swing has been with me ever since.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:40 AM

you come here for news?
hahahahahahahaha
January 4th, 2012 at 11:43 AM
I’ll try it. It’ll help override the weak muscle memory I’ve got right now.
I do a similar drill to enforce my hand placement. I address the ball like normal and cock my hands so the club is parallel to the ground, then I just turn my shoulder and pause at the peak position. From there, the hips should go, which is what I need to work on, and which is where I’ll incorporate that drill.
I’ve been a one-putting machine lately but all my putts are for bogey.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:43 AM
That’s why you don’t fuck with alligators.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:43 AM
ritty…it should feel like you’re starting your practice swing from the 3rd pic in the bottom row.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:44 AM
tho…your hips won’t be as released as in the pic in 30.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:45 AM
I have my doubts.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:45 AM
i wish i could swing a golf club in my house.
on a side note… that iPing putter app is fucking onions. i’ve been putting non stop since xmas.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:46 AM
that’s not bad…ryan moore did a similar move for a few months when he hurt his wrist a few years ago.
but if youre short and having trouble shifting, it sounds like it could problem with your setup. if you’re set up on the correct line, you should have plenty of room to extend and shift correctly.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:46 AM
Oh wow….okay, I can try that. May drive out to the club for lunch and spend 30 minutes with it.

January 4th, 2012 at 11:56 AM
Wouldn’t have helped much when he dived at the alligator and landed 5 yards short.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:57 AM
The net works fine. It looks a little jacked up because I think we messed it up when trying to fit it back into its bag. Plus, the wind blows here…a lot and it has a tendency to tip over. But otherwise it’s great. I did my best to shank a few with these soft rubber balls I bought. I’ve set it up so that worst case scenario a shank is hitting the bricks on the side of the house. It happened once but I made a ridiculous swing to do it. I shanked a real ball but it went harmlessly into the side of the net.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:57 AM

The worst part is I swing on a mat on the concrete back porch. The mat isn’t quite thick enough to reduce the shock of the concrete so feel is a little bit of an issue. I’m gonna get a new mat eventually.
January 4th, 2012 at 11:59 AM
I don’t think the previous owners of our house thought that way. I’ve found five balls in the woods so far somehow, but still haven’t found a level enough spot to put a net down.
/starts laying turf on the deck
January 4th, 2012 at 12:00 PM
Carpet padding. We have some 20 lb memory foam leftover from the fall, and that is going to be prominently featured under the mat.
January 4th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
THis is the net I got, by the way – http://www.amazon.com/Callaway-Quad-Net-8-Feet/dp/B0012U27LM
It’s bigger than you think when hitting into it and I stand as close as possible with a 7-iron mostly.

Spencer – what you know about these? Or something similar? http://www.realfeelgolfmats.com/
January 4th, 2012 at 12:02 PM
Yeah, I’ll do something like that. I just don’t want the ball to sit too high.

I almost got that, and saw mixed reviews. Does it seem pretty durable? I want something I can go driver-wedge, so I’m thinking it may take a cage
January 4th, 2012 at 12:04 PM
never tried one out, but they look really nice as far as mats are concerned.
January 4th, 2012 at 12:04 PM
Hadn’t seen those…man, they’re expensive.

why don’t you just move the mat to the grass?
January 4th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
no, unfortunately. tried a few simulators out at one of those golf bars and at golf galaxy. kinda uninspiring unless you’re just goofing around for fun.
the trackman tho…WHOO. god damn…i want $25k to build a trackman studio in my home.
January 4th, 2012 at 12:06 PM
Yeah, that’s why I resisted. I just have no time to play anymore, so I may save up some of my golfing money and turn it into a nice range setup by the end of the year.
January 4th, 2012 at 12:07 PM
When I opened it, it unfurled really nice. But getting it to fold back up was a pain in the ass. When I set it up in the back yard, there were a couple of odd kinks in the frame. It’s really bendable so it’s not like it will break, it just looks a little jacked up. And like I said before, wind is an issue with it where I am. It will tip over fairly easily. But, so far, the couple of times I’ve used it, it’s been fine. I think it will last for at least 2 years and that’s probably worth it for the relatively cheap price.
January 4th, 2012 at 12:07 PM
I’ve played on a Full Swing simulator. That was nice. Don’t want to know how much it’d cost, though.

Could it be you are trying to “pick” the ball due to the shock you feel from practicing on the mat/cement?
January 4th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
This is the one thing I don’t want. Would be way too unstable/unrealistic on the thick zoysia (which my wife won’t let me destroy). I actually want to start with a concrete base, with about an inch difference between stance/ball, so you can build up padding, then just put turf/carpet all over it.
January 4th, 2012 at 12:09 PM
Every time I read a headline with ‘Santorum’, my mind’s eye sees ‘Scrotum’.
January 4th, 2012 at 12:10 PM
I have thick St. Augustine grass and it just doesn’t sit well. The mat sits high and jumps around at impact. Plus the way I want the net positioned, it’s just easier to have on the concrete. It’s not as bad as it sounds. When I pick it clean with a good swing, it feels pure enough…but if I hit it fat, it’s obvious the mat is on concrete.
January 4th, 2012 at 12:10 PM
big moss has some decent sized practice mat products that have gotten some decent reviews. not too pricy, but not cheap either.
January 4th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
You guys are fucking stupid and ridiculous with your golf
/SG
January 4th, 2012 at 12:11 PM
Yeah, I think that’s an issue. My normal swing, I take a shallow divot a few inches in front of the ball but on this setup, I think I’m hesitant to do even that. Plus the mat is really small. I just need a new one is all there is to it and I think my setup will be fine.
January 4th, 2012 at 12:14 PM
wwos, isn’t that you who runs quite a bit?
January 4th, 2012 at 12:16 PM
a buddy of mine got a mat for christmas and dug out the square and filled it with a pea gravel/sand mix and then put the mat on top of it. it’s got a surprisingly nice feel, you can get down into the mat pretty good.
