college golf you can do some damage by being consistenly very good. THe pros you need to consistently GO LOW.

read a post where some dude calculated the hypothetical handicaps for the pros on the PGA and nationwide tours. we don’t have slope and course rating for tournament setups and pros don’t carry handicaps so it was kind of an educated guess but the results were interesting nonetheless…

nationwide pros are around a +4, PGA around +6. the guy who came up with the handicap and rating systems, dean knuth, estimated angel cabrera played at a +10 over the four days of the 2009 masters. insane shit.

I’ve noticed though that really good college golfers rarely seem to have the skills necessary to make it on the Tour. Most seem to top out at the Nationwide, if even that high.

college golf is like college football…some programs want to make their golfers better, some just want to put band-aids on their game in order to be more successful.

plus, considering how much talent doesn’t go to college in europe, asia, south africa and australia, it’s a much deeper talent pool than NCAA. because, if a golfer’s good enough to make it on tour, well, he’s usually on tour.

Sad. I guess we still only have Payne Stewart to hang our hats on.

Good stuff, thanks spencer. So do you think Kraft can cut it on the tour? When he won the U.S. Amateur Championship this year he automatically won invitations to several tournaments….is he good enough to become a big name in the PGA?

na, he probably won’t ever be a big name on Tour and his match with cantlay kinda showed why, even tho he won…cantlay was outdriving him by 50 yards all day. it’s like the difference between those really good college players and that guy you know is going to be a perennial all-pro.

despite winning the most prestigious amateur event, even in comparison to fellow am’s, kraft is behind. he was DUSTED, and i mean absolutely destroyed at the walker cup (the amateur ryder cup).

This was from a few years ago, when TBL made one of his “gray background” posts in which he opined that Michael Vick was a better QB than Brees. Then the 2009 season happened. I’ve jokingly never let TBL live that one down.
