Defiant Kobe: I’m Not Shooting Less, I Do What I Do, and It’s Not Going to Change
You’ll want to fast-forward to the 3:55 mark, when a reporter asks Kobe about the team moving to more of an inside-out offense, pounding the ball inside to Gasol and Bynum, and then looking for open jumpers.
“If you mean [if] I’m going to shoot less, the answer’s no. It starts with me. I do what I do, and they play off that. It’s not going to change.”
Kobe’s fighting age, and presumably his wife in a nasty divorce, and he’s losing both of those battles. You think he’s going to lose a showdown against Bynum and Gasol? Kobe’s going to the mattresses on this one. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Kobe went at one of them in practice the way he was willing to fight Shaq at practice back in the day.

More than one connotation for this one…

If anyone can fight off age, it’s Kobe. Keep shooting, man.
Signed,

This is the time for me to remind you that the Lakers actually hired Mike Brown to coach their basketball team.

Why is there a link to a shitty movie when it seems like it’s going to be a link to the greatest film ever made?

this statement alone should disqualify you from jury duty for the rest of your life. Nice work.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:24 PM
Kobe had 150 million reasons to quit shooting frozen ropes across white women’s guard rails but he couldn’t resist. It’s gonna be a long year for the Mamba.

Jace covered the red carpet for the premiere of You’ve Got Mail. If you had seen the Louboutin shoes Meg Ryan was wearing, you’d link to that clip, too.

am i the only one who likes Mike Brown as a coach?

Good money says TBL hasn’t seen The Godfather.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:35 PM
What a good teammate. Seems like someone people would enjoy playing with.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:36 PM
When you’re one of the best on the planet you don’t have to be well liked. Jordan was a massive prick, too. I agree that Kobe is a douche, but he’s an all-time great so he can get away with it.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:36 PM
This x 1,000,000. Not for a single second do I think TBLintyre did that for irony. What a travesty.

Kobe Bean Bryant, with alot of basketball left in his career, says he is not ready to take a secondary role in an offense to Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum (as if he should) and people are shocked? Sometimes being a hater makes you stupid.

January 3rd, 2012 at 2:44 PM
The best part of the haters is listening to them bitch about every announcer who ever called a game. Apparently they all suck. Matt Millen can make a perfectly reasonable point, but because he was a bad GM, his opinion is worthless.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:45 PM
Jeff Lurie is dropping some knowledge in this press conference, I’m amazed.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:45 PM
And they all think Gus Johnson is a good announcer.

This is one of the best memes on this site. Cracks me up every time.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:47 PM
i don’t understand this.
in the fiesta bowl he was breaking down an awesome block that very few other color guys would highlight. it was good shit.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:47 PM
Who was this last week?
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:47 PM
Exactly.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:49 PM
Agreed. I think my brother and I had more discussions on the Stanford blocking throughout the game than their gameplan.
/Until the last drive of the game and their OT possession
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:50 PM
I enjoyed his call last night. A lot, actually. But sites like Awful Announcing (which is a good site a lot of the time) parse every single line someone says. Talking for 4 hours and only saying awesome, insightful things every time is impossible. The mob mentality on the internet is also there. If people all start saying how bad Announcer X is, then it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:50 PM
lions fans.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:50 PM
Matt Millen makes many many good points.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:50 PM
I finally flipped on this guy. He just doesn’t know the game very well. I don’t mind the excitement/volume, but he needs to learn basic strategies of football.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:51 PM
Him saying “sometimes you have to lose one for the Gipper” was not good shit. Way back in the day he was okay as a commentator, but times have changed, and he is bearable only in what dumbfuck thing he is going to say next.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:52 PM
He knows football, I just don’t want to hear his idiotc tropes.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:53 PM
People forget there was an actual reason he was even considered for a GM job in the first place. He might actually know a thing or two about football.
There are lots of people who have been around football for a long time and have a lot of knowledge about the game…that doesn’t mean they will make good front office execs.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:54 PM
did you see ed cunningham on the osu/florida game? HOLY SHIT he was bad.
i guess florida’s “spread” includes a QB under center and two tight ends pinned next to the tackles. then he describes florida’s blocking scheme as man on instead of the zone blocking it is.
he wasn’t even CLOSE. and don’t get me started on mike patrick doing ZERO homework and not even bothering to TRY and get names right.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:55 PM
I thought it was a good line for what he was saying.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:55 PM
true…and just because someone knows football doesn’t mean they’ll be a great color announcer either.
/glares at gruden
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:55 PM
Listening to Gus Johnson call a game is a highly overrated experience.
The guy I kind of enjoyed doing NFL color work this year was Brian Billick. I’ve read/heard the guys can be arrogant, but if he is, it didn’t come across in his work this year. I thought he was quite good.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:56 PM
He’s another one that was good once, but too many nights next to Vitale fried his brain.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:56 PM
Some guy named Mike Patrick.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:56 PM
another underrated analyst is Trevor Matich, especially on the radio.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:56 PM
Now Cunningham I have to agree on. He called three NEB games last year and 2-3 UGA games this year. He’s awful.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:57 PM
And why some people like Vitale as an announcer, I’ll never know. You’re not there to cheerlead, but give me insight into the game which I, as a layperson, wouldn’t know.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:57 PM
He was saying the fullback sold out for the block so the runner could get the edge right? How does an expression about winning a game for a dying man said incorrectly work there? Maybe I’m just the only crazy man left on Earth.

this needs to be repeated over and over again…HORRIBLE. h-o-r-r-i-b-l-e. straight up bald-faced lies to the audience.
that said, his voice was a wonderful baritone that warmed over you like a velvet snuggie.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:59 PM
id actually believe in god if vitale lost his voice…a truer justice you cannot find.
January 3rd, 2012 at 2:59 PM
He didn’t sell out to block someone, the guy he was blocking cleaned his ass out, but in doing so it provided enough time for the RB to get to the outside. The FB was destroyed, but he did the job well enough in getting destroyed.
So true.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:04 PM

Kobe sounds like Jerry Jones. I’m not changing people. Suckage or not….
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:45 PM
Sheesh – complaining about poor Millen, Cunningham, etc. – not everyone can be one of the greats – Enberg, Madden, Jackson, Pam Ward . . .
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:48 PM
And why some people like Vitale as an announcer, I’ll never know. You’re not there to cheerlead, but give me insight into the game which I, as a layperson, wouldn’t know.
That would accurately describe Majerus’ short stint on TV. He was brilliant, perhaps too brilliant for the avergae viewer/layperson. Like Knight, no razzle-dazzle, just smart basketball insight. F Vitalezyzewski!
January 3rd, 2012 at 5:25 PM
If you watch an old classic game with Vitale he’s actually pretty good, the schtick is toned down and he’s actually pretty insightful. Somewhere along the line he became a cartoon character which is sad but I’m sure has made him a lot of money.
My problem with Knight is that he is clearly a brilliant basketball mind who at times can be brutally honest, but too often spouts cliches and gets fixated on storylines (team A can’t rebound, team B cant defend the post) even when the game is not going according to said storyline. He also loves Duke even more than Vitale. He’s a disappointment because you know he’s capable of being candid and insightful.
