2012 NFL Draft: Who is Going to Trade Up to the No. 2 Spot to Pick Baylor’s Robert Griffin?
The St. Louis Rams have the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft [here are our Mock Drafts 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0], and they’ve got options. Even though they don’t currently have a GM or a coach, it’s fun to speculate about what might happen. With four months to the draft, a few options are emerging:
1) Draft USC OL Matt Kalil. He’s supposed to be a franchise-worthy OL. QB Sam Bradford can’t stay healthy, so Kalil would be protecting their $50 million investment.
2) Draft Oklahoma St. WR Justin Blackmon. He’s a Terrell Owens clone (6-1, 215), and looked like a man among boys in college putting up astronomical numbers. He instantly gives Bradford viable No. 1 option.
3) Trade the pick. (Right now, this seems to be the most popular option.)
Who might be interested? We’ll start with teams in need of a QB: Cleveland (4), Washington (6) and Seattle (11/12) jump out. Barring a career-ending injury in the next three months, it’s difficult to find other teams who might seriously consider leaping up to grab Griffin.
Contenders you might be thinking about:
Tampa: Josh Freeman’s still got that big rookie contract. He had a rough year, but he looked good the previous two.
Jacksonville: Blaine Gabbert played poorly as a rookie, but financially, there’s no way they’re giving up on him yet.
Miami: Do you believe in Chad Henne? Or will the new coach/GM want to make a splash and invigorate the franchise?
Kansas City: Will the new coach want to rid himself of Matt Cassel and Kyle Orton?
There aren’t going to be any attractive free agent options at QB this offseason (does Jason Campbell count?). Someone will inevitably say Matt Flynn of Green Bay should get big bucks, but he’s only performed well in two games (and the Packers could franchise tag him, anyway). So it’s the draft or nothing.
Let’s examine the three teams in dire need of a QB who aren’t financially invested one:
Cleveland: Colt McCoy got knocked around and eventually out this year. He had a better rookie year. But with no Peyton Hillis and no receiving talent (again) in 2011, he took a step back. How much are you willing to give up to grab Griffin? Or would you rather grab an offensive weapon (Alabama RB Trent Richardson?) first, then a WR later (with the pick from Atlanta) and then take a QB (Texas A&M’s Ryan Tannehill?) in the 2nd round?
Washington: Can Mike Shanahan go into another season with Rex Grossman and John Beck as his QB options? Impetuous owner Daniel Snyder loves to make splashy moves that end up blowing up in his face (Donovan McNabb and Albert Haynesworth in recent years come to mind). The Redskins could end up playing a game of chicken with the Rams. We dare you to take Griffin (they won’t). We know Minnesota and Tampa won’t, not the way they’ve got money tied up at the position. Then, Griffin falls into their lap. Note: Shanahan loves John Beck. Has for years.
Seattle: Just like the Redskins, the Seahawks send a gloomy message to the fanbase by going into 2012 with the mediocre tandem of Charlie Whitehurst and Tarvaris Jackson at QB. When Matt Barkley stayed in school, it hurt. If Landry Jones stays in school, it’ll hurt. Maybe Tyler Wilson of Arkansas comes out and kills at the combine? Because of the division Seattle plays in, the Seahawks could just be a QB away from contending with the 49ers.
Two other things to consider:
* The 49ers factor. San Francisco is the best NFL story this season, and they did it with Alex Smith at QB. They re-tooled the defense and are 13-3. If the Browns/Redskins/Seahawks just beefed up the defense, couldn’t McCoy/Grossman/Jackson get their teams to the playoffs? Smith is not considerably better than any of them.
* The Peyton Manning factor. Let’s see what happens with his injury and if the Colts cut him loose. Peyton Manning would sell tickets in Washington and Miami, and possibly even get them to the playoffs. Wouldn’t you rather pay Peyton Manning for 1-2 years rather than mortgage a bunch of draft picks to take a chance on a guy who tore up the Big 12? If Manning isn’t healthy and flames out, he only sets the franchise back a year or two. Drafting a QB in the top 5 is easily a 4-year investment.

Jets.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:09 PM
Point that I’m going to hammer on all offseason – Broncos are going to sign either Flynn or trade for Peyton Manning.
Redskins will move on up to get RG3.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:11 PM
So why can’t Bradford-RG3 be like Manning-Luck?
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:11 PM
Dont draft Blackmon that high.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:11 PM
The Flynn thing sounds right. I’m pro-forward pass.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:12 PM
hopefully nothing…i love RGIII but not in the NFL.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:12 PM
So why can’t Bradford-RG3 be like Manning-Luck?
This would be more like Shaq\Penny
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:12 PM
Can’t really see Shanny coveting RGIII, though.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:13 PM
I’m pro-Tebow and 28 yard sacks. I’m very much looking forward to the Broncos joining Michigan State in the “having to punt on 4th and goal” club.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:13 PM
OT
Well it didn’t fucking take long for Man City to go up on Liverpool.
/OT
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:14 PM
everytime i read his name I think of Mars Blackmon and laugh thinking about mars blackmon being a dominating force in football.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:14 PM
i can…he’s jake plummer with talent.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:14 PM
Dont draft Blackmon that high.
Why not? Dude is a legit threat with the right QB and offense.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:14 PM
Kalil better be a Viking. I know the flashy players like Blackmon will be tempting, but the line is more important right now.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:15 PM
So why can’t Bradford-RG3 be like Manning-Luck?
i’d go with Brees/Rivers. not Manning/Luck
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:16 PM
because he’s a legit headache without those things and looking at the list of potential landing spots well…headache is the likely play.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:16 PM
You know I was a Tebow fan right up to the point he laid hands on Andre Carter and didnt heal him. Fucking prick.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:17 PM
My thoughts as well. He’s too volatile to be the No. 2 pick, though STL desperately needs weapons.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:17 PM
that’s not what tebow does. sometimes a messiah heals, sometimes a messiah circumcises…but you should see the umbrella he made out of carter’s foreskin. burberry’s going to recreate it for their spring 2012 collection.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:17 PM
there’s 60,000,000 guaranteed reasons why Bradford-RG3 it won’t be like Manning-Luck
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:18 PM
Blackmon is a legit headache? First I’ve heard of this.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:18 PM
Why not? Dude is a legit threat with the right QB and offense.
I like Blackmon, I think he’s gonna be a good pro. But at the #2 pick you need to get a GREAT pro. He ain’t no Calvin coming out of GT.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:19 PM
And sometimes, a messiah just needs to pick a FUCKING GUY AND LET IT FLY ALREADY.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:19 PM
someone please trade to #2 to get RGIII so the browns can draft Blackmon at #4.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:19 PM
The Niners beefed up that defense over a few years, it didn’t just happen in one draft. I wouldn’t say the Browns/Redskins/Seahawks are one or two defensive guys away from a possible 13-3 record.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:20 PM
If it’s not Andrew Luck, I hope that if you didn’t make the playoffs your first round pick isn’t a quarterback.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:20 PM
If you honestly think he’s T.O. good you take him, but that’s a tall order. STL is in such dire straights with their skill guys, though, so unless they get a great trade offer, I could see them taking Blackmon. His 40 will be one to watch, though (as dumb as that is).
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:20 PM
whatever the Rams do, it won’t work out. They’ve drafted horribly lately.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:21 PM
are there any other Harbaugh brothers or cousins they can hire as the coach?
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:21 PM
im guessing somewhere in the 4.6 range and that it’ll have almost no impact on him being able to get open.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:22 PM
I just hope ATL wins one playoff game to make the first rounder CLE gets even worse.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:22 PM
Blech.
If Landry Jones enters the draft, I will relentlessly mock the team that takes him regardless of the round.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:22 PM
browns defense is very young but has a ton of potential. the browns are 9 or 10 offensive guys away from a possible 13-3 record.
/9 or 10 depending on if you count joe thomas as one or two players
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:22 PM
someone please trade to #2 to get RGIII so the browns can draft Blackmon at #4.
If someone does do this, then I don’t see why the Vikings won’t take Kalil thus leaving Blackmon to the Browns
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:23 PM
Rams should take Kalil and try to rebuild their o-line to protect Bradford.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:23 PM
I agree. It seems silly how much weight is put on the 40, but it is what it is.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:23 PM
it would be logical to take him. that is the exact reason why I see the Vikings not doing it. would make way to much sense.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:23 PM
i mean, in that part of the draft, it really wouldn’t be any better or worse. if they missed the playoffs, it’d be the same story. anything from like 20-28 is about the same thing.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:24 PM
This
looked like a man among boys in college putting up astronomical numbers.
Does not necessarily equal this
He instantly gives Bradford viable No. 1 option.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:24 PM
Does anyone even KNOW what Manning’s contract looks like and the cap hit on a team? Is Snyder THAT dumb to backup the Brinks truck for Manning and take a cap hit?
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:24 PM
Kirk Cousins
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:25 PM
/Tebow picks the guy he wants to throw to
//winds up
///still winding
////starts throwing motion
/////sack
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:25 PM
i think it’s a big deal based on what type of player someone is. if you’re a smaller CB or WR, 40 time is a HUGE deal, less so if you’re over 200-ish lbs.
you don’t see many small, slow guys in the NFL.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:25 PM
Surely he’ll get drafted, right? 5-7th round?
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:25 PM
Rams should take Kalil and try to rebuild their o-line to protect Bradford.
This would be far too logical of a move. Can’t have that.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:27 PM
This would be far too logical of a move. Can’t have that
LSU CB could be another option. They had a terrible D this year.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:27 PM
Kirk Cousins
Kellen Moore will go before him
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:27 PM
Kirk Cousins
what’s his 40 time going to be?
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:28 PM
seriously? don’t see him going that high, especially since McShay is in love with him.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:28 PM
if they cut him before march 8th, there’s no cap hit, if it’s after march 8th, it’s $28.5 million.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:30 PM
uh, nope.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:30 PM
I can’t wait until his she and her lesbian partner embrace at his house party.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:30 PM
He’ll finish it.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:31 PM
Does anyone even KNOW what Manning’s contract looks like and the cap hit on a team? Is Snyder THAT dumb to backup the Brinks truck for Manning and take a cap hit?
woody johnson and mike tannenbaum are…
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:31 PM
seriously? don’t see him going that high, especially since McShay is in love with him.
Agree with this. Tannehill has done hardly anything to show that he’s worth spending a first or second round pick on. Maybe 3rd….maybe.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:31 PM
Looks like Sir Norval and AJ are to return.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:31 PM
Question of semantics:
Is a high\low draft pick the 1st round or the 7th round?
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:32 PM
I would be all for that. if they do decide to go that route I would hope they trade down a little and get a few more picks, I haven’t seen him going top 5 or anything like that in any mock-drafts.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:33 PM
Nope.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:33 PM
Does anyone even KNOW what Manning’s contract looks like and the cap hit on a team? Is Snyder THAT dumb to backup the Brinks truck for Manning and take a cap hit?
woody johnson and mike tannenbaum are…
and i forgot to quote Chief Grady… “desperation is a stinky cologne”
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:33 PM
I’ll take Laurinatis over any of chumps the Lions have.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:34 PM
GM’s always fall in love with mobility, though.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:34 PM
As brief as his NFL career.
/I hit Cousins over 4th round pick 32 in the draft yesterday
//Gambling son
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:35 PM
Does anyone even KNOW what Manning’s contract looks like and the cap hit on a team?
$38 million cap hit for the Colts.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:35 PM
Yeah…he wouldn’t kill it at the combine after all.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:35 PM
prolly. if Hoyer can be an NFL backup, he can be.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:35 PM
That worked out so well for Jacksonville.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:35 PM
I believe the Colts would be the one to feel the cap hit if they traded Manning.
The cap hit may make it very hard for the Colts to trade Manning.
And yes. Snyder would be that dumb to take a huge cap hit if it is available to him.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:36 PM
Low blow. He would own your ass playing hand ball Spencer.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:36 PM
for 14.5 million dollars.
GB loses quite a bit of leverage if they’re trying to deal with quarterback needy teams because that salary would more or less be the starting point for a new contract.
I think they let him walk and take the compensatory pick instead of trying to finagle more from the likes of the Skins and Seahawks.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:37 PM
Skins and Seahawks.
i’ve been hearing flynn’s name in cleveland for about 6 months now
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:37 PM
This would be far too logical of a move. Can’t have that
LSU CB could be another option. They had a terrible D this year
Either option (Kalil or Morris Claiborne) or even Justin Blackmon is defensible. In fact, the Rams and Vikes are in spots where they can land a player to fill a need — o-line, WR or CB.
It’s also why I don’t see the Skins trying to trade up for RG3 — costs too much and he may just slide to them.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:37 PM
That worked out so well for Jacksonville.
They seem to be mroe concerned with whether a player’s mother exchanges sex for money or drugs on a professional and habitual basis.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:38 PM
how do you know im not a hand ball savant myself?
/im not
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:38 PM
Until I found myself using Explorer this afternoon, I never realized how many of my typos Firefox was catching and pointing out to me.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:38 PM
Despite your best efforts to troll, I agree. If he’s gonna be a starter in the NFL he’ll more than likely have to go the Matt Flynn route.
/Though I wasn’t particularly high on Andy Dalton coming out either.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:39 PM
Commenter draft?
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:39 PM
I CALL BROWNS.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:39 PM
I call Lions.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:39 PM
re: Matt Flynn, we need Lisk to do a post on QB’s who sat for at least the first 3 seasons of their career and then turned into above-average starters once acquired by a new team.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:40 PM
This… but with Chrome. One more step towards complete reliance of our society on computers.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:40 PM
I can hear you wheezing just typing that.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:41 PM
Can we do 17 games, so it includes Tom Brady?
/cherry-picking to fit the conclusion
I call Patriots. And I promise not to try to trade down with the Armanti Edwards pick.
/nods at Clay
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:42 PM
oh please…im not fat or wheezy. and hand ball is the exact kind of sport a pothusiast like myself would excel at.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:42 PM
Also: the Flynn thing pisses me off, because I think that between his ascent and Cassel’s inconsistency, the demand for Brian Hoyer is significantly decreased.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:43 PM
I’ll take a team nobody here follows. I would defer the Steelers to Brawny or MT, they know more than I for sure.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:43 PM
dont kid yourself…there wasn’t much demand to begin with.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:43 PM
Well, at the very least it be interesting to see what 3rd rounder Spence would have Cincy taking with Oakland’s 1st round pick
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:44 PM
While it’s tempting to think the Seahawks should trade up to get a QB, the better route for them (given the cost of moving up to #2) is probably to go after someone like Flynn and draft another defensive player.
They aren’t too far away from having a very good defense, and actually have some decent skill guys (Lynch, Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin, Zach Miller).
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:45 PM
I thought a 2nd rounder going into the season seemed reasonable. I mean, if friggin Jesus McWhatshisface was worth a 2nd rounder for Seattle…
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:45 PM
OT
Just had a crazy case of deja vu, awesome.
/OT
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:45 PM
hey now, ive been very complimentary of the bengals as the season’s progressed. i truly enjoy them outside of their uniforms and ginger.
id have them take a safety and an offensive tackle…biggest needs.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:46 PM
I play racquet ball pretty regularly. I just never saw the appeal for hand ball. Now if someone wants to get down on some ‘butts up’, I’m game.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:46 PM
Commenter draft?
I’d defer to Oskie for the Giants.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:46 PM
I think it’s the details you provide in your stories that I like best about you.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:47 PM
Pretty sure your mixing up Handball with Mario Kart and competitive eating.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:48 PM
Hypothetical for the Browns, say Luck-RB3-Blackmon- go off the board, who would you go #4?
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:48 PM
I guess I could defer to Cleet, because I’m pretty sure he watches more college football than I do, but at this point, it’s gotta be defense for the Pats. Which means it won’t be. I mean… who needs yet another 1st/2nd round CB sitting around busting on the bench.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:48 PM
Lions want Vontaze, Jenkins or Dennard.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:48 PM
i had that at the NYE “party” i went to. really bizarre…the drink, where i was sitting, the color of the dress of the chick i was talking to, the layout of the house…it was all like “ive seen this before.”
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:49 PM
only if you let people who hate teams make their picks for them.
if so, i select the steelers.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:49 PM
The details weren’t interesting at all. It was just related to looking at my Twitter timeline while an Excel spreadsheet for work was open in the background. Just having it was the best part.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:50 PM
reiff the OT from iowa.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:50 PM
Hypothetical for the Browns, say Luck-RB3-Blackmon- go off the board, who would you go #4?
Matt Kalil
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:50 PM
Landry Jones is going to the Jets, already, so please keep that in mind while selecting.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:50 PM
Vontaze in the low 20′s is too high. He can be a beast but he sure wasn’t at all last year and regressed quite a bit.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:50 PM
I’d take any unwanted team this year; I sat out last year as this site was blocked at my work; I am all over the draft.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:51 PM
I dunno. Me reading about it was pretty awesome, too.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:52 PM
There are quite of few defensive backs with character concerns who will drop in the draft like Jenkins and Cliff Harris.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:52 PM
Guard, corner, safety or D-lineman, before a Tackle, unless somebody good slips.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:52 PM
Giants need help at LB and the secondary. Their pass rush covered the secondary’s ass big time in the Dallas game.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:52 PM
Commenter draft?
I’ll take the London Monarchs of the World League
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:52 PM
Kalil, Claiborne, Trent Rich would be my order. I’d actually like to take Claiborne there but there will be good value poss at 36 for DB.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:53 PM
Rest assured they will take a CB in the first 3 rounds. I wonder if they will be as trade happy as they usually are. A deep-threat WR would be nice as well but obviously it is not a priority.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:53 PM
Yeah, way better than mine since it didn’t involve work and a spreadsheet.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:53 PM
I’ll take the Eagles again
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:54 PM
I cant figure out how RGIII will fare in the pros. He has all the tools, but I dont know if I would unload the house for him.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:54 PM
Im weirdly excited at McCourty being a safety for the foreseeable future
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:54 PM
I would happily play Jerry Jones in a commenter draft.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:55 PM
Barcelona Dragons. Vengan los Dragones!
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:55 PM
this shit happens to me once every couple months. I blame drug use during college.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:55 PM
I’m the same way but I think it’s because I’m racist. Only kinda joking.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:55 PM
Forgot about Spliffy Cliffy. Interesting… Maybe Lions could go OL or LB in the 1st round then Cliff later on.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:55 PM
What do you think of Brady’s the lack of development of young WRs? Price/Tate/Jackson were all at one point supposed to be really good and then all were released. Edelman hasn’t been anything special at WR, but is at least still with the team.
At this point I’m wondering if Slater or Underwood would be worth more of a shot. Have you seen either much? Not getting the games here really has impacted my judgement of what I like on their roster.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:56 PM
Oh just a heads up – Eagles need LB, DE/DT, WR. Upshaw, Still or Floyd would be the best fits. DeSean is going bye bye.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:56 PM
here’s what im thinking tho…you get the best OT available and move whitworth or andre smith inside to G, where they’re better suited anyways.
cincy’d have a beast OL then.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:57 PM
i really can’t wait until the pats trade out of the first round and avoid taking pass rushers so they can get more depth at CB with mediocre talent.
on the plus side, their mediocre CB talent turns into amazing talent in Madden when you trade for Suh, Clay Matthews, and create an overall 99 edge rusher.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:57 PM
character concerns who will drop in the draft like Jenkins and Cliff Harris.
Forgot about Spliffy Cliffy. Interesting… Maybe Lions could go OL or LB in the 1st round then Cliff later on.
i believe the lions have filled their quota of players named Cliff.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:58 PM
Well they’ll trade one of their first rounders for sure, but they’ll use one of them.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:58 PM
The Lions will have a good shot at getting Dennard. I think he’ll go in that 20-28 range. All depends on the 40, though.
January 3rd, 2012 at 3:58 PM
Mesean goes to Boston.
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:00 PM
on the plus side, their mediocre CB talent turns into amazing talent in Madden when you trade for Suh, Clay Matthews, and create an overall 99 edge rusher.
i go the old school route… sim the first season (injuries off) and then turn Colt McCoy into a 90+ with 3 straight SB rings.
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:00 PM
Mesean goes to Boston.
I thought I saw yesterday that he’d accept a franchise tag for next year and then work on a deal after that. Or am I making that up?

I dno’t think Brady has a part in it. It does take a specific kind of player to fit into the offense in that capacity. The 3 you mentioned couldn’t do it, Edelman was never a serious candidate and is better off in his role. The one thing is that the Pats seem to have a short leash on making mistakes. Slater, UNderwood, Tate, and the Ocho experiment have all been marked by game miscues where they look confused out there and then they are rarely ever seen again. Perhaps that has to do with the Brady’s shrinking window and the fact they were spoiled by Moss’ football IQ and the development of the TEs. A little of all of those I think.

I’m the same way but I think it’s because I’m racist. Only kinda joking.
my concern is durability. he would take an average hit, and look like he got shot in the gut with a mossberg.

I remain in awe of those who aren’t “sold” on Luck.
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:01 PM
I would prefer the Lions let Cliff Avril walk. No need to pay him big money. Any young better than average pass rush end will get double digit sacks on that line. That money needs to be spent in the back 7.
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:03 PM
I think they’re going to try to trade him, Reid/Morny are moving towards utilizing the TEs more, hence Celek putting up bigger numbers as the season progressed. Maclin & Shady are also due pay raises and are less pains in the ass.

This. But typical Browns probably wouldn’t draft either on of them if they are both there. The Browns don’t draft dynamic players.
/Seriously, Blackmon appears to be a can’t miss
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:03 PM
He looked so good last night. Seems like a very likable guy, too.
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:05 PM
Brandon Tate sucks.
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:06 PM
Should I be willing to settle for Alshon Jrffrey if Blackmon wasn’t there if i was Hokmgren? If he even coming out this year and where is he projected?
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:07 PM
Holmgren*

I think most of it is the way the organization works. brady has to be sure that any receiving option out there is a viable option to make a catch when it counts, to run their routes, and essentially know what everyone else is doing should there need to be changes to the plays.
it’s not surprising that, outside of the tight ends, the successful receivers on the pats offense since 2007 have been brought in from other teams and already familiar with the pro landscape.
i also would not be surprised to see hernandez brought in as a receiver in the slot more often in the future based on his size and skill set.

I see. Does the fact that Jackson’s punt return against the Giants in 2010 did well in the TBL Pop Culture Tournament not help him out in contract negotiations?

Sanders has a problem with his throwing motion. Although the poor guy is on edge with the whole PoliaManLuck Gate going on in Indy.

Spencer, Real AC, Would you trade the the #4 (Blackmon) to WASH for their #7 and #1 next year?
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:13 PM
I can grow a mean neck beard if a I have to and not even I can compete with this Luck kid.

@PL Jeffrey could be this year’s Greg Little.
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:16 PM
blackmon looks so much bigger than 6-1
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:20 PM
gawd that’d be hard to turn down…real hard. but at what point do the browns actually start winning? i mean, i kknow the draft is our favorite time of year and all but…
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:22 PM
Stroke the furry wall.
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:26 PM
That offer might be better than Atlanta’s. You’d have to jump on it. Instead of 2 firsts in the mid-20s and 2 later round picks, you’d probably get 2 in the top 10.
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:28 PM
yea, but that’d be the third straight year of passing up a WR when the “team desperately needs a WR.” what good is a sandwich tomorrow when im starving today?
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:29 PM
what good is a sandwich tomorrow when im starving today?
What kind?
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:29 PM
WAS has so many other holes than WR. They need OL and DB in the worst way.
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:29 PM
but at what point do the browns actually start winning?
yeah I would take it. I mean it takes time. Browns are still tons of impact guys away.
January 3rd, 2012 at 4:29 PM
Their best corner, Terrell Thomas, will be back from injury next year, plus they took a corner with the first pick this year. They need a linebacker who can work in pass coverage or a guard, center, or tackle. Also, the Rams should take Blackmon and establish their offense around triplets.

If I had 64 dollars in NOLA I’d buy 60 dollars worth of cocaine and a muffuletta. Wait, wrong thread.

RGB goes to the Skins. They are losing fans in droves and Snyder was voted the Unsportsman Douche Bag of the year (again). He’s driving the franchise into the ground and they need a QB. If the Skins can’t get Manning in a trade, they do what they have to to grab RGB.
January 5th, 2012 at 5:56 PM
Best thing a team could do – the Dolphins would be perfect – is to get a coach like Brian Billick (who has WCO experience) or even Fisher if he is willing to hand over the offense; hire Tom Clements away from Green Bay (presently QB coach) to be their offensive coordinator; pray the Packers don’t franchise Flynn and then sign Flynn to be their QB in a Green Bay style offense. The Dolphins already have a pretty good nucleus. They could use the #9 pick to shore up their offensive line; could go after another WR (in draft or FA) or an impact pass rusher. They would instantly be a competitive team.
January 7th, 2012 at 2:02 PM
Is there a beginning date before which teams are prohibited from talking to each other about trading up or down? Or are teams free to do that at any time, just as they trade active players for draft picks during the season? I’m particularly interested in seeing the Redskins move up to #2 because I don’t think QB is the Rams’ main problem, given what I’ve seen Bradford do in games. And of course it’s probable that the Colts will take Luck, making #1 an impossibility for any other team. Thanks.
