Steve Spagnuolo Fired by the Rams … Will He Resurface in Philadelphia?
Steve Spagnuolo, who coached the St. Louis Rams to a 10-38 record in three seasons, was fired this morning, Jay Glazer reports. (ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Sunday night that Spagnuolo would be canned today.)
This is hardly a surprise. After going 7-9 last year and hiring Josh McDaniels to bolster the offense, the Rams were expected to contend in the AFC West this season. Instead, they were a dumpster fire, finishing 2-14. They were barely competitive this season, and certainly unwatchable.
QB Sam Bradford took a step back this year – he always seems injured in some capacity – and he needs help at receiver. I’d go with Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon with the 2nd pick in the draft, but over the last decade, WRs selected that high have been hit or miss. Will you get Calvin Johnson (superstar) or Charles Rogers (bust)?
I think that based on the success of two guys taken in the top 10 of the 2011 draft – AJ Green and Julio Jones – Blackmon will be taken with the 2nd pick.
As for where Spagnuolo will wind up, he’ll almost certainly get a defensive coordinator job somewhere. The rumors a few weeks ago were Philadelphia, but Indianapolis and Kansas City could make sense, too.

Maybe he could take over the Cowboys defense. Ryan sucks ass and is nothing but a big blowhard. Romo doesn’t deliver in crunch situations, but neither did the Dallas D.

Spags has a history in Philly, so I imagine he ends up there. Was McDaniels also let go with the head coach?

You keep saying bolster. Stop saying bolster.

By the way, the #2 pick is going to be ransomed for people who want RG three.

He’ll be great wherever he goes, as long as he can bring Justin Tuck with him.

Injury-wise, maybe 2010 was the aberration. Bradford, as good as he is, had some injury issues in college. How much in 2011 was lack of protection versus his own durability, I dunno. They need Bradford healthy, fer shure.

Spagnuolo and Morris – who’s the third guy? “Three on a match”, and all that.

This drips with San Diego hopefulness. Put it back away… Norv is getting another year.

Do not rule out a return to the Giants. Fewell is not very popular right now with Mara.

NFLN has been pounding this the last few days – saying Rivers is big-time in Turner’s corner. Chudzinski (sp?) would be a great replacement, if you ask me.

Correction: Rams play in the NFC West NOT the AFC West.
