Indianapolis Colts Win the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes
The Indianapolis Colts are on the clock for the 2012 NFL Draft.
Andrew Luck, come on down. By virtue of a 19-13 loss to Jacksonville, the Colts have wrapped up the No. 1 pick, which they will obviously use on Stanford’s Andrew Luck.
Luck, the Heisman runner-up the last two years, will be taking the baton from Peyton Manning. Gotta feel bad for defensive coordinators in the AFC South.
The only question is what the Colts will do with the best player in franchise history. It probably won’t be clear for at least 3 months:
The next significant date in the Manning timeline is March 8, at which time he’s due a $28 million option bonus that triggers the final four years of the five-year, $90 million contract he signed in July. If the Colts opt to not pay the bonus, Manning becomes an unrestricted free agent.
It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to simply cut Manning if he’s healthy, so one would assume the Colts hope Manning passes all the necessary tests and then they can trade him to someone in need of a QB for a few draft picks.
The Jets took a chance on one mid-30s QB a few years ago (Brett Favre) and that worked for half a season before the bottom fell out and they missed the playoffs. Favre left, the Jets drafted Mark Sanchez and …
I’ve gotten ahead of myself. Congrats, Colts fans. You’re set at QB for the next 12-15 years.

Terry Bradshaw says the “jets have a quarterback mess.”
Strong words from a football guru.

That two point conversation attempt by the Texans was simply mind blowing. Vintage Kubiak. Let’s take all the momentum we have and then urinate on it in the most retarded way possible. Way to limp into the playoffs Kubes.

Also mindblowing: the apparently unintentional irony of this sentence. A little early to anoint Luck as another Manning, dontcha think?

Do you really think it would have made a difference if Houston won the game? It wasnt a very impressive game to begin with. Rest the players and come back Saturday. I do think Andre Johnson should have played more to get in some game shape…

Texans I like the call. But the team, time and time again, shows a thorough inability to execute simple plays. The lack of focus comes from the top. The play and the loss don’t hurt us at all, but 11-5 is much prettier than 10-6 and we were limping into the playoffs as is. A 2 point conversation attempt that disintegrates into a false start and then a high snap is a pretty ugly exclamation point.

That being said, I’m glad we didn’t go into overtime.

when did this switch from The Big Lead as writer name?

I think that was the driving reason for the 2-point try.

I’m guessing this butterfly emerged from its TBL cocoon with the turn of the New Year.

I know it was. My point is that I’d prefer for them to have at least gotten the play off. They couldn’t even do that.

I’m sure SC loves this game Matt Flynn is having against the Lions.

Colts head coach Peyton Manning is already drawing up schemes for various inventive ways that Luck can hold the clipboard next season.

It was retired at the same time as the Jets’ season.

Texans didn’t want to risk injury in OT in a meaningless game so it was the right call. Can’t blame the coach for players fucking up the 2 point conversion with a false start and a bad snap.
