I guess you don’t understand the meaning of “historically” in the sentence “Texas fans will likely tell you that, historically, Aggies are their third biggest rival…” Nowhere did I state that Arkansas is currently a bigger rival. Clearly the Aggies are currently a bigger rival, given that they play every year. But when they were playing all 3 on an annual basis, Arkansas and OU were the bigger games. There is no debate about this, due largely to the fact that Aggies were irrelevant while UT, OU, and Arkansas were national powers more years than not.

I never stated that A/M-UT was irrelevant. Point to where I did. You’re arguing with a straw man. It’s a lot more relevant to Aggie fans than it is to UT fans, if for no other reason than that OU is an obstacle to national and conference championships, whereas the Aggie game is just about bragging rights that no one outside of the state of Texas really cares about. Aggies fired their coach because of the UT loss (Sherman would still be in place but for that loss to UT) because that game makes or breaks their season. The Aggies long to be the program that UT is. But they never will be that important. Five years from now, the Aggies will still be losing 4 or more games on an annual basis. And that will never be as impressive as UT going undefeated in the Big 12 or the Pac 12 or as an independent.

Essentially, you don’t like UT. That much is clear. I don’t like the Aggies. What you admire in A/M would be admirable if the typical Aggie douche had some realistic self-awareness of exactly what they are and where they fit in the realm of college football. Being in a conference that has some good teams does not make you relevant, it makes you roadkill.

Saban will never make as much at Bama as he could at UT. UT makes the most money and the most profit of any college football program. If they want a coach, and that coach demands outrageous money, they are one of the few programs that could pay for him without batting an eye. And I think it’s clear that Saban’s ego is such that he’ll eventually look for the most money somewhere else. And once he’s done his thing at UT, he’ll probably be looking for a pro job again, to prove to himself he can even do that well.

The Aggies are in a constant state of butthurt that they are not UT, and that is why they left. UT offered to split the LHN deal with A/M and Byrne passed because he didn’t think it would work out (it did, $300MM guaranteed dollars later). So, to pretend that UT struck out on its own without trying to include A/m in the early stages is just flat out false. Aggies were butthurt that they screwed themselves out of a good deal, and they left crying with their tails tucked between their legs, believing that the success of Bama, LSU, and Florida is going to somehow raise their own ship. Boy, are they mistaken.

As bad as Auburn was this year, apparently Mississippi State was a lot worse.

What makes you say this? Auburn squeaked out a home win, where MSU was literally inches away from sending the game to overtime. State’s other losses: ‘Bama, LSU, Georgia, & Arkansas, with Arkansas being the only blowout. They played ‘Bama, LSU & Georgia closer than Auburn did. I have a hard time seeing “a lot worse” from that.

- And I really don’t buy that Ut-aTm is “irrelevant,” given how both teams play in the same state and their fans interact so much. Maybe you’ve been better than aTm over the last fifteen years, but somehow I think Texas beating aTm gets pretty big airplay in Texas.

- Texas is a national program in the way that about fifteen other schools are. The funny thing is, by moving to the Pac 12, only USC would have similar stature. Moving to the SEC or Big 10, you’d have many more schools to worry about. So it’s just funny to me that Texas wants to move to the conference that’s further away where they just so happen to be walking into a situation where everyone immediately bows and scrapes to them.

- So, yes, aTm did make this move to strike out on their own. But when the biggest school in the state is making decisions based on the assumption that the world revolves around them, that’s the type of reaction that will be provoked.

- From what I have heard, aTm is under no expectation of being successfull in the first few years. They are hoping it will raise their profile and that, say, five years from now they will be successful. I admire what they are trying over UT’s long term goal of filling its schedule with the Utahs and Arizona States of the world. Five years from now, an aTm two loss season will be more impressive than an undefeated Texas season.

- Saban is not leaving Bama for Texas. He can be just as successful at Bama and make as much money. I say this because he is already doing that. And given that Brown is negotiating a contract extension beyond 2016, I’m not sure when this Saban move is going to happen.

Aggies are going to the SEC for two reasons: 1) they think they will escape UT’s very long shadow; and B) they mistakenly believe they are equal to the upper echelon SEC teams. In this they reveal both their obsession with UT and their wildly mistaken impressions of their own football accomplishments.

Just typing something doesn’t make it true, Dildo. UT is a national program and has been, save for the David McWilliams and John Mackovic periods of wandering in the wilderness, for over 50 years. When Saban leaves Bama, he’ll be replacing Mack at UT. UT is a dream job for a reason, Dildo.

The move is about visibility and long-term improvement. If A&M had wanted to try and win right now, they’d have stuck around the Texas ‘n Friends conference or moved out to the PAC.

Quite a few of us know the football program has been in the shitter for two decades now… but we’re not really empowered to do anything about it. There is no Occupy Bill Byrne. There aren’t enough folks out there voting with their checkbooks and empty seats for us to make a difference.
