SEC Schedules Announced: Pencil Georgia Into the 2012 SEC Title Game.
The SEC schedules are here (if you can get the site to load). The new divisions are East (Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt) and West (Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Texas A&M). Each team plays six division games and two cross-division games. Here is a quick breakdown.
Alabama: The Tide drew two cross-division road games, but with Missouri and Tennessee. They also play Arkansas and LSU away from home.
Arkansas: The Razorbacks get Alabama and LSU at home, though they drew maybe the toughest East road draw with South Carolina.
Auburn: This could end up being a tricky schedule. Their home games are LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M and Georgia. They also go away for the Iron Bowl. If the Tigers don’t win 3/3 away at Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt, it could be a long, hot-seat lighting season for Gene Chizik.
Florida: Not a great cross-division draw, LSU and Texas A&M. They also have no time to build momentum. After an opener against Bowling Green, they play eight SEC games in nine weeks, wrapping up their conference slate on Nov. 3, three weeks before most other teams.
Georgia: This schedule will again make Mark Richt look like a luminary. The Bulldogs’ two SEC West opponents are Ole Miss and Auburn, meaning they miss the four toughest teams in the division: Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, and Texas A&M. Potentially, the five toughest, depending on Mississippi State.
Kentucky: Joker Phillips avoids Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M. Though they go at Florida, South Carolina, Mississippi State, at Arkansas, Georgia and at Missouri before getting Vanderbilt and Tennessee. They won’t be favored in those final two games.
LSU: They will have to earn their repeat title. They drew 2/3 toughest East opponents with South Carolina and Florida. Their first five SEC games are at Auburn, at Florida, South Carolina, at Texas A&M and Alabama. They also close the season at Arkansas. Fortunately they weren’t as ambitious with their non-conference scheduling: North Texas, Washington, Idaho and Towson at home.
Ole Miss: Welcome to the SEC, Hugh Freeze! Road Games: at Alabama, at Arkansas, at Georgia, at LSU.
Mississippi State: The four-game stretch from Oct. 27-Nov. 17 (at Alabama, Texas A&M, at LSU, Arkansas) will be a killer. Though, their pedestrian non-conference lineup should soften the blow.
Missouri: The Tigers’ adjustment may be rough. They play Georgia at home then at South Carolina in September. They play Alabama at home. They close the season with three-straight road games against Florida, Tennessee and Texas A&M.
South Carolina: This schedule may cost Steve Spurrier a shot at the SEC East. They get Georgia at home, but they drew the worst cross division game, at LSU, and play Arkansas.
Tennessee: We’ll quickly find out whether opportunity is NOWHERE. They play Florida, at Georgia, at Mississsippi State, Alabama, at South Carolina and Missouri before landing softer games at Vanderbilt and Kentucky.
Texas A&M: Not as rude a welcome as they could have had. They cross-division draws where Florida and Missouri, both at home. They go at Alabama, but have three other winnable road games against Ole Miss, Auburn and Mississippi State.
Vanderbilt: James Franklin should have some opportunity to improve. They are in the weak east. Their cross-division draws were Auburn* at home and at Ole Miss. They are in the same boat as Georgia, playing neither Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M nor Mississippi State.

Mark Richt’s a righteous man. He deserves this.

Here’s hoping A/M is all kinds of FAIL in the SEC. Biggest bunch of douchebags in college football. The only decade of relevance they ever enjoyed in the modern era was when they were cheating their assess off. Now that they are apparently not cheating, they’re not relevant.
Amazing that the 2nd biggest school in a football rich state like Texas can’t consistently field a top 25 football program. I guess that’s what happens when you let the blowhards at TexAgs.com run your program.

What the fuck?
December 28th, 2011 at 11:37 AM
i know this is about only the SEC, but im kinda surprised michigan wasn’t mentioned in alabama’s segment.

I like Vic. He definitely speaks his mind.

What the hell does this mean
December 28th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
I know Florida is a super fertile recruiting ground, but I’m surprised Muschamp hasn’t brought a single recruit to Gainesville from the great state of Texas.
December 28th, 2011 at 11:43 AM
Yeah, what about the arduous task that awaits Nick Saban? He has to game plan for the most electrifying CFB player in the last 30 years.
December 28th, 2011 at 11:43 AM
Playing a top 10 team before a brutal SEC schedule does deserve a mention.
December 28th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
Mizzou will go 4-4 at worst and I wouldn’t be surprised at all with a victory over UGA at home in September.
December 28th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
Yea, this is odd. SC playing UGA & Fla in October rather than the traditional September and November games.
Gotta love UGA trading Bama for Mizzou.
December 28th, 2011 at 11:46 AM
Moving to an easier conference should help their record.

A Michigan fan WOULD under the impression that Mississippi State is a good team.
December 28th, 2011 at 11:51 AM
yea, but michigan’s only a top 10 team because nobody else is good. like bragging about winning the special olympics.

Ugh. I hate cocky retards. Just bag the groceries bud.

even with a gutted bama defense, meeeshhigan has zippy chance.

Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but letters offering scholarships were delivered by brand new trans-ams to good recruits back in the 1980′s. The trans am’s then stayed in the recruits driveway.
So I’ve heard.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:05 PM
I agree. Given UGA’s history, why are folks assuming their game @Mizzou is a W?
December 28th, 2011 at 12:06 PM

that will quickly fade once they start that SEC schedule. they’ll be Ole Piss 2.0 by 2014.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
I had no idea.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
that will quickly fade once they start that SEC schedule.
I dunno. They were mostly shit in the Big 12 and they maintained a level of smug douche that broke records througout their short stay.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:09 PM
I can’t wait until some Aggie wants to bitch about the refs after another loss, and the Texas school fans don’t have to engage them anymore. We can just wave them off, and tell them to take it up with the one miss state alum at the bar.
Fags.

I was trying to find where I said that I liked Dalton in the pros… and couldn’t find that, but I did find where lots of people REALLY hated Dalton as a bust.
I thought this was funny…

Stark, Tom and I all pretty much agreed, too. Didn’t see anyone saying “Dalton was a starter for a lot of games in college and he knows how to win, he’ll be fine”.

baylor and kansas would love to have a scintilla of ATM’s tradition and history. sour grapes, and all that.

I’m interested to see how much of this season was luck, and how much will carry forward.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:15 PM
They’ll do the same thing in the SEC. It’s pretty easy to cast themselves as misunderstood outsiders – they’ll just say it’s because they’re the new guy. I just hope the athletic department is able to stay afloat.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:15 PM
Not the point we are making, spence.
Besides, all those traditions are based on ut, and that is now washed away.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:16 PM
Happily admit I was wrong there. Though in my defense, I saw a grand total of zero of his college games.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:17 PM
Ha, I bet Nick has changed his tune on Dalton now.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:18 PM
I liked him against Wisconsin, but that’s the only game I saw. I thought his pocket presence/mobility was decent, but wasn’t sure about his arm.
I’d like to have a record of all the stuff I’ve said that has turned out to be laughably wrong. There’d be a lot of crow on my plate.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:18 PM
I just hope the athletic department is able to stay afloat..
i’m sure you’re just torn up over the thought.

Dalton went to Katy, he will be good.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:19 PM
I’m assuming he’s already had a better career than an average 2nd rounder.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:20 PM
AJ green is the truth…not entirely related to the quoted part, but he’s so fucking good it makes me angry.
i hate to say it but the bengals future is not too bad…they’re talented, have two firsts, the ravens and steelers are getting older and cash strapped too and the browns are a dumpster fire incapable of being put out. that’s pretty cush.
December 28th, 2011 at 12:20 PM
I will say this… I wasn’t sure how good he’d be but I’m pretty sure I’d have taken him over Gabbert/Ponder. Gabbert just looks like a dumpster fire.

Have to be happy you traded away the Julio Jones pick.
It’s pretty telling that no team needed a WR more than the Browns, yet they passed on him. Shows how much of an overpay it was on the Falcons part.

meh…just like im not counting out dalton’s bustiness, im not counting out colt’s potential when he’s had shit to work with and his only good players injured.
but you can improve catching ability…harder to improve not seeing things, because if you could improve not seeing things, flacco and sanchez would’ve improved by now.

I can’t even pretend I thought Locker would be good. The only thing I say is that I like guys rated high (Locker, Leinert) who come back and drop because of over-analysis. I’m looking forward to Luck being the #2 overall pick and in five years everyone losing their shit over it.

Agreed, duffy has decided on a “Gene Chizik sucks and will be fired” meme that he will run into the ground. I am one of Chizik’s biggest critics, but the guy won the national title with a lot of bad players. Sure, he had a REALLY GOOD ONE, but he recruited/bought/what have you the guy there, and he is recruiting other good players. This isn’t Larry Coker walking into a room of twenty future NFL players.
As bad as Auburn was this year, apparently Mississippi State was a lot worse. This shouldn’t be a surprise. That’s been the rule for the last century.
December 28th, 2011 at 1:21 PM
Now that UTexas doesn’t have a transcendent athlete at QB, are they?
December 28th, 2011 at 1:28 PM
I wish everyone would quit broad-brushing A&M alums as blind, bumbling superfans.
Quite a few of us know the football program has been in the shitter for two decades now… but we’re not really empowered to do anything about it. There is no Occupy Bill Byrne. There aren’t enough folks out there voting with their checkbooks and empty seats for us to make a difference.
I still feel like A&M is a great coach away from being an annual contender. Unfortunately the dumb fucks that call the shots continue to gladhand their buddies and hire the wrong people. We’ll find out again in 4 years when Sumlin is shitcanned.
December 28th, 2011 at 1:32 PM
I think most A&M alums/fans realize that the Aggies are going to eat shit in the SEC for a while. It’s a realistic point of view.
The move is about visibility and long-term improvement. If A&M had wanted to try and win right now, they’d have stuck around the Texas ‘n Friends conference or moved out to the PAC.
December 28th, 2011 at 1:42 PM
Classic Aggie comeback, relevant to nothing that has been stated. For Aggie, it’s all about UT and always will be.
But go ahead and compare a 2 year bad stretch for UT to a 15+ year bad stretch for A/M. They’re the same thing, after all.
Spoken like another Aggie douche.
December 28th, 2011 at 2:42 PM
Dougies
December 28th, 2011 at 3:14 PM
Texas fans need to hush, at least aTm is willing to step up and take their lumps in a real conference. UT’s bizarre obsession with getting into the Pac-12, where there are no geographic, cultural, or historical ties, can only be explained by UTexas’ desire to have a built-in play-in game for the national title every year. Texas is under the impression that they are a “national” program, but the only thing “national” is how everyone outside that state loathes them.
December 28th, 2011 at 3:36 PM
Funny that you assume I’m a Texas fan. Being anti-Aggie doesn’t make one a Texas fan. In fact, Texas fans will likely tell you that, historically, Aggies are their third biggest rival, behind Oklahoma and Arkansas. Aggies have largely been irrelevant.
Aggies are going to the SEC for two reasons: 1) they think they will escape UT’s very long shadow; and B) they mistakenly believe they are equal to the upper echelon SEC teams. In this they reveal both their obsession with UT and their wildly mistaken impressions of their own football accomplishments.
Just typing something doesn’t make it true, Dildo. UT is a national program and has been, save for the David McWilliams and John Mackovic periods of wandering in the wilderness, for over 50 years. When Saban leaves Bama, he’ll be replacing Mack at UT. UT is a dream job for a reason, Dildo.
December 28th, 2011 at 3:53 PM
Funny, for someone who denies he is a Texas fan, you sure talk like one.
-Arkansas is no longer a major rival. You’ve played, what, five times since the conference split? Awfully important rival there.
- And I really don’t buy that Ut-aTm is “irrelevant,” given how both teams play in the same state and their fans interact so much. Maybe you’ve been better than aTm over the last fifteen years, but somehow I think Texas beating aTm gets pretty big airplay in Texas.
- Texas is a national program in the way that about fifteen other schools are. The funny thing is, by moving to the Pac 12, only USC would have similar stature. Moving to the SEC or Big 10, you’d have many more schools to worry about. So it’s just funny to me that Texas wants to move to the conference that’s further away where they just so happen to be walking into a situation where everyone immediately bows and scrapes to them.
- So, yes, aTm did make this move to strike out on their own. But when the biggest school in the state is making decisions based on the assumption that the world revolves around them, that’s the type of reaction that will be provoked.
- From what I have heard, aTm is under no expectation of being successfull in the first few years. They are hoping it will raise their profile and that, say, five years from now they will be successful. I admire what they are trying over UT’s long term goal of filling its schedule with the Utahs and Arizona States of the world. Five years from now, an aTm two loss season will be more impressive than an undefeated Texas season.
- Saban is not leaving Bama for Texas. He can be just as successful at Bama and make as much money. I say this because he is already doing that. And given that Brown is negotiating a contract extension beyond 2016, I’m not sure when this Saban move is going to happen.
December 28th, 2011 at 4:07 PM
What makes you say this? Auburn squeaked out a home win, where MSU was literally inches away from sending the game to overtime. State’s other losses: ‘Bama, LSU, Georgia, & Arkansas, with Arkansas being the only blowout. They played ‘Bama, LSU & Georgia closer than Auburn did. I have a hard time seeing “a lot worse” from that.
December 28th, 2011 at 4:22 PM
I guess you don’t understand the meaning of “historically” in the sentence “Texas fans will likely tell you that, historically, Aggies are their third biggest rival…” Nowhere did I state that Arkansas is currently a bigger rival. Clearly the Aggies are currently a bigger rival, given that they play every year. But when they were playing all 3 on an annual basis, Arkansas and OU were the bigger games. There is no debate about this, due largely to the fact that Aggies were irrelevant while UT, OU, and Arkansas were national powers more years than not.
I never stated that A/M-UT was irrelevant. Point to where I did. You’re arguing with a straw man. It’s a lot more relevant to Aggie fans than it is to UT fans, if for no other reason than that OU is an obstacle to national and conference championships, whereas the Aggie game is just about bragging rights that no one outside of the state of Texas really cares about. Aggies fired their coach because of the UT loss (Sherman would still be in place but for that loss to UT) because that game makes or breaks their season. The Aggies long to be the program that UT is. But they never will be that important. Five years from now, the Aggies will still be losing 4 or more games on an annual basis. And that will never be as impressive as UT going undefeated in the Big 12 or the Pac 12 or as an independent.
Essentially, you don’t like UT. That much is clear. I don’t like the Aggies. What you admire in A/M would be admirable if the typical Aggie douche had some realistic self-awareness of exactly what they are and where they fit in the realm of college football. Being in a conference that has some good teams does not make you relevant, it makes you roadkill.
Saban will never make as much at Bama as he could at UT. UT makes the most money and the most profit of any college football program. If they want a coach, and that coach demands outrageous money, they are one of the few programs that could pay for him without batting an eye. And I think it’s clear that Saban’s ego is such that he’ll eventually look for the most money somewhere else. And once he’s done his thing at UT, he’ll probably be looking for a pro job again, to prove to himself he can even do that well.
The Aggies are in a constant state of butthurt that they are not UT, and that is why they left. UT offered to split the LHN deal with A/M and Byrne passed because he didn’t think it would work out (it did, $300MM guaranteed dollars later). So, to pretend that UT struck out on its own without trying to include A/m in the early stages is just flat out false. Aggies were butthurt that they screwed themselves out of a good deal, and they left crying with their tails tucked between their legs, believing that the success of Bama, LSU, and Florida is going to somehow raise their own ship. Boy, are they mistaken.
December 28th, 2011 at 4:29 PM
Just to be clear, Dildo, I have no beef with you. I just hate the aggies with a burning passion that is reserved for college football fandom (I’m a secondary UT fan – was raised in a family of UT fans and I got my graduate degree there, but I generally despise the typical arrogant UT fan). So anytime someone takes the Aggie side of things, I find it hard not to attack that opinion.
I happen to also hate Memphis, dating back to the days of Dana Kirk, Keith Lee and his futile attempts at derailing Phi Slamma Jamma.
