Oregon’s Rose Bowl Uniforms Scare Me

For years we’ve watched NIKE run fashion experiments on the University of Oregon’s athletic department like mad scientists run amok. Each uniform is brighter, flashier and gaudier than the previous attempt. They even went so far as to create a Fortress of NIKE-tude for the basketball team. Now we’ve been presented with the Ducks’ Rose Bowl uniforms. As you can see from the promotional images, they are terrifying. They look like stills from Predator 2. What kind of beastly Hell Duck has wings like that? I don’t know. I just know I wouldn’t want to run into an Oregon Duck in a dark alley. [NIKE Blog]

I’ve got to give it to Oregon. They’ve got the gimmick and they exploit it to the max. Guarantee some 4* high school kid in Texas decided to commit to the Ducks after seeing those uniforms.

Beelzeduck.

Oregon’s unis in last years NC game were SICK.

Good call. OSU had great Pro Combats the first year @ UM with the white helmets — the other ones have been lacking.

great link for golfers re: golf swing.

I had four things I wanted to get accomplished at work today. Just got downgraded to two. One due to that link. The other due to the fact my give-a-shit mechanism is broken.

ritty…that site’s got the best explanation of hogan’s “endless belt” idea ive seen. helped me conceptualize the idea and finally got me to start hitting a draw after a good year+ trying.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:16 AM
If I were a top-100 recruit, about the only thing keeping me from going to Oregon is their uniforms. I really can’t think of any other reason not to go there.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:16 AM
I got some decent golf swag for Christmas – got some new Nike casual grey on grey shoes, 2 Arnold Palmer style shirts with a Bay Hill logo, an 8′ Callaway golf net for the backyard, some Nike Platinums my Dad clearly won in a door prize at a tournament…think that’s it.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:19 AM
Hmmm, I’m not familiar with the endless belt idea. I’ll look for it on the site. I’ve hit a draw for the past 5-6 years but I’ve changed my swing plane a little bit lately. It’s steeper. I hit it higher and fadier and therefore, shorter. It’s not fun. But I had developed so many bad habits with the old swing, it was time for a change. Solid contact will lead me to greens in regs, something I wasn’t doing consistently, and I’ve always been a good putter. Trying to go from an 8.5 handicap to a 5 this year.

how are those wings legal? anyone got a copy of the NCAA rulebook?
December 27th, 2011 at 11:20 AM
ooo…that net’s gonna get some use. the new arnold palmer shirts are pretty sweet…3 different lines, all classic. cool shit.
and you gotta love the re-gifted nike’s…ive been there. “wtf? like im gonna play this shit ball. someone else take this so i don’t get their stink on me.”
December 27th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
At least they weren’t Mojos. Plus, my course has golf ball graveyards all over it. Aka, the Gunch, Aka, rattlesnake pits. I always need balls because I’m bound to hit one in that shit every round and I ain’t going looking for it.

Thanks for the link, Spence.
I’m old school, but I actually like these Oregon uni’s. First Nike offering that I like really.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
that’s not necessarily a bad thing, though…robert allenby has an steep swing, but he’s plenty long and controls the clubface so freaking well.
you get your lie angles re-checked since the fade’s been creeping in?
December 27th, 2011 at 11:26 AM
it’s reasons like these i don’t mind living in the midwest.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:27 AM
also, i got some GG gift certs burning a hole in my pocket and need new wedges…suggestions?
December 27th, 2011 at 11:29 AM
Nope. Not yet. Best I can tell right now, when I pure it, I’m losing 5-10 yds per club depending on the severity of fade. I’m not comfortable with it yet. I want the swing dialed in before I change things too much. And hell, I probably won’t do too much then. I played a few days ago and sprayed it all over the place and shot 87…but I had 4 birdies. If I can just get consistent with it, I’ll be fine.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:30 AM
I don’t think I understand the helmet just yet.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
I’ve got a grab bag of mix and match wedges right now. I have an old TaylorMade RAC 52* that needs to be replaced, a 56* Vokey that I love, and a 60* Cleveland gun metal. If I could buy 3 new wedges right now, I’d get Vokey’s.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
Go Ducks.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
i know exactly where you’re coming from. and there always seems to be a tradeoff between accuracy and raw distance…johnny miller was as accurate a ballstriker as there was and he was short amongst his peers (another steeper swinger too). same with pavin and furyk.
it’s a great approach for short irons and full wedges…and you’ll probably see no decline in par 5 performance since the distance you “lost” would put you in an equally comfy wedge range.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
But for me, my wedge game is all about confidence. If it’s up, I could hit a cracked wedge with a busted grip to 2′, so I’ve never been too particular with brands or grooves. I’ve hit great shots with all of those clubs.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:37 AM
much appreciated.
this is kinda what i was thinking as well. i tried like hell to talk myself into cg15′s because i like the heavier swingweight, but hit em like shit when i tried em out saturday. tried the mizuno mp r-12′s and loved them for partial shots, but was losing 10 yards according to the simulator on full shots and didn’t like the way the DG spinner shaft kicked.
it was just hard to look at a new wedge because im so used to using vokeys. probably should just stick with em.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:39 AM
exactly my sentiments…i’ll get a little anal when it comes to bounce, but that’s just because i love my 60* vokey with 4* bounce for every shot except sand and long rough. next lob wedge needs more bounce for sure.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:43 AM
Often imitated, never duplicated.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:50 AM
I bought three Vokey’s for a birthday present for myself about 5 years ago. I got a mid bounce lob and a high bounce 56 for sand, but I have a low bounce (might be 4) 52 that I love. I’ve found that combo really nice, and really choose the clubs more based on the lie than the distance, since you usually don’t take “full” wedges (or I dont…)
December 27th, 2011 at 11:52 AM
these unis are an abomination. that said, beat Wisconsin.
December 27th, 2011 at 11:57 AM
depends what you’re referring to as a “full” swing…i don’t go 100% like i would with a driver but i still take a full shoulder turn using my 54* that’s my stock 100 yard shot.
id much rather take a full swing on an 75 yard shot with a choked down lob wedge than try and hit a 3/4 sand wedge, but, like you qualified…different strokes for different folks.
December 27th, 2011 at 12:03 PM
Spencer: I agree, I more just meant that if you have 170, you take an 8 and if you have 160, you’ll drop down to the 9. But if you have 120 and have the 52 in your hand, the same shot at 110 won’t mean you drop to 56/60, but rather take something off the shot. The wedges have a lot more variability in shot selection, whereas a number iron is (usually) just determined based on distance.
December 27th, 2011 at 12:08 PM
yea, we’re on the same wavelength here. you also have to account for spin with wedges more than irons too…if you have 100 with the hole being in the front that slopes heavy from back to front, you’re going to play it different than if it’s 100 and the pin’s in the back on that same green. first one, let a full sandy come back to the hole. second one, hit a 3/4, punchy gap wedge run out.

Go Ducks.

That Phillips chick sounds like a hottie.
December 27th, 2011 at 12:26 PM
Actually, I’d say just about every other BCS Championship game loser does a pretty good imitation job of Oregon. Or is it the other way around?
