Carlos Beltran is a St. Louis Cardinal
The St. Louis Cardinals and Carlos Beltran have reached an agreement on a two-year, $26 million contract. The move, pending the results of a physical, is apparently the Cardinals’ best way of softening the blow of losing Albert Pujols. Are fans happy with this move? It all depends, really.
If you’re looking for a player who leans on daily updates of the health percentages of his hamstrings, which will never break 89%, Beltran is your guy. If you’re looking for someone to pass the buck like a hot potato, Beltran is your guy. However, if you happen to be looking for a player who isn’t crankier than your girlfriend, Beltran is not your guy.
To be completely fair to Carlos, he concluded last season with an OPS of .920, his highest since 2006.

I’m kind of a Beltran fan, about the only guy who played in NY that I like. Back from his day playing for the dynasty in Kansas City.

Overpaid but really solidifies the lineup. 3 switch hitters & Wainwright coming back really softens the Pujols blow.

Trouble in paradise? Give up the dick, Tim Hernia, and she will be less cranky. Abstinence leads to obstinance

You should read the paper more often.

as as Cardinal fan, not sure how I feel about this. Beltran adds a bat, which they obviously will need. but like Hernia said, he seems like a dick around the clubhouse and you never know when he will miss a month because of some ailment. hate that they overpaid for him.

Beltran’s biggest mistake was leaving Houston. But as a stros fan I’m glad he did

Little known fact: if Beltran had 0.4 more WAR last year it would have equalled Pujols’ WAR

And these are the guys who are actually good at baseball that get left out of the AS-Game because Cap’n Jetes get the SS nod…shame really

I wonder if Adam Wainwright walks by Beltran, buckles his knees, and says “Remember that?”, and then walks off chuckling.

Of note, Beltran signed a more reasonable deal than the likes of Michael Cuddyer. If he plays 270 games over the next two seasons, I think the Cards are pleased with the deal.
So what if he is a dick. Pujols isn’t exactly Mr. Congeniality. No one seemed to care as long as he was raking.
