2012 NFL Mock Draft 3.0: With Two Games Left in the Season Here’s How the Draft Might Shake Out
2012 NFL Mock Draft 1.0: May – Before the lockout ended.
2012 NFL Mock Draft 2.0: October – Early in the NFL/college football season, when bad NFL teams and good NFL players began to become evident.
Not a ton has changed, as you’ll see a lot of the same players from 2.0 in this version, although we still don’t know which underclassmen are coming out (USC’s Matt Barkley and Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o are not).
1. Indianapolis Colts – Andrew Luck, Stanford. I don’t think the Colts will beat the Jags.
2. St. Louis Rams – Matt Kalil, OL, USC. Protect Sam Bradford or get weapons for Sam Bradford?
3. Minnesota Vikings – Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU. Had the Vikings getting him 11th in Draft 2.0.
4. Cleveland Browns – Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama. Do they go with Baylor’s Robert Griffin here?
5. Jacksonville Jaguars – Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma St. Gabbert’s been awful, but he’s got garbage WRs.
6. Tampa Bay Bucs – Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College. One of the worst defenses in the league bolsters an overrated front seven.
7. Washington Redskins – Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor. Shanahan can’t go into next year with Beck/Grossman, can he?
8. Miami Dolphins – Jonathan Martin, OL, Stanford. Only because there’s no QB to take here.
9. Buffalo Bills – Zach Brown, OLB, North Carolina. Horrendous run defense can’t stop a nose bleed.
10. Carolina Panthers – Devon Still, DT, Penn State. Strong senior year vaults him high in the first round to help a porous run defense.
11. Philadelphia Eagles – Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama. Absolutely, positively, has to be a run-stopping LB.
12. Kansas City Chiefs – Riley Reiff, OL, Iowa. Or will the new coach want to take a chance on a new QB? The OL is the safe call now.
13. Arizona Cardinals – Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina. The pick will be in the front seven on defense. Some mock drafts have Coples in the Top 10.
14. Tennessee Titans – Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois. Led the country in sacks with 14.5. The Titans are near the bottom of the NFL in sacks (24).
15. Seattle Seahawks – Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma. You don’t like him. He appears to have regressed. Is he even coming out? If not … Ryan Tannehill? Twenty-eight year old Brandon Weeden?
16. San Diego Chargers – Andre Branch, DE, Clemson. Chargers have had issues pressuring the QB (just 29 sacks) and Branch had 10.5 and has a relentless motor.
17. NY Giants – Dont’a Hightower, LB, Alabama. Massive need at LB for the Giants, who pass on the nutcase that is Burfict.
18. Chicago Bears – Barrett Jones, OL, Alabama. Jay Cutler approves.
19. Cincinnati Bengals (from Oakland) - David DeCastro, OL, Stanford. Because there will be holes in the offensive line next season, according to Todd McShay.
20. Cincinnati Bengals – Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame. Floyd and AJ Green would be an impressive tandem for Andy Dalton.
21. NY Jets – Mark Barron, S, Alabama. Dire need at LB and OL, but in a division with Aaron Hernandez and Gronk, they must get better at safety, and Barron’s a major talent.
22. Dallas Cowboys – Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama. Had him higher in my previous two mocks. Probably a Top 15 pick.
23. Denver Broncos – Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska. Aging secondary needs to improve to keep pace with the front seven. We’ll get Tebow a WR -Randle? Toon? – in round two.
24. Detroit Lions – Lamar Miller, RB, Miami. They’re what, 0-for-the-last-3 trying to find a ball carrier?
25. Cleveland Browns (from Atlanta) – Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina. Stock supposedly has slipped due to a shaky year and some weight issues. But two SEC studs in the first round = major win.
26. Houston Texans – Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor. Offense has looked anemic without Andre Johnson. With Johnson’s power and Wright’s speed …
27. Pittsburgh Steelers – Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina. The Steelers’ secondary is vastly overrated.
28. SF 49ers – Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina. Incredible athlete on one end, and Aldon Smith on the other? Oh boy, Harbaugh could be building a monster.
29. Baltimore Ravens – Vontaze Burfict, LB, Arizona State. Assuming he stays out of trouble, and another Sun Devil, Terrell Suggs, can teach him how to reign in the anger, he’ll be of great value here.
30. New England Patriots (from New Orleans) – Mike Adams, OL, Ohio State. They scout better than you, so they’ll trade out of this spot, obviously.
31. New England Patriots – Nick Perry, DE, USC. Perfect fit for when Shaun Ellis is cut loose.
32. Green Bay Packers – Brandon Jenkins, LB, FSU. The only thing certain is that the pick will be a defender.

12. Kansas City Chiefs – Riley Reiff, OL, Iowa.
Kirk is going to bring his boy to Kansas City.
December 23rd, 2011 at 12:59 PM
Shouldn’t the Jets be in the bottom 4?
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:00 PM
Not if Derrek Sherrod can’t play football again after breaking his leg pretty horrifically…might still need a tackle if one is the best player on their board
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:02 PM
I disagree, I think OL seems likely.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:02 PM
And right now the Bills should be listed before Miami. At the end of the season as well.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:10 PM
I like Richardson, but I can’t see the Browns taking a RB with the 4th overall pick.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:11 PM
I’m not workin today….Can I get a round up, please?
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:12 PM
Michael Floyd will be rookie of the year.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:16 PM
You’re part of the problem. Had you been working, we may have had a fighting chance at one.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:20 PM
Yikes. This shit would be frightening.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:22 PM
Except when they dont.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:22 PM
on his team, probably likely.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:23 PM
The Rams will be spending the second overall pick on an offensive tackle for the second time in three years? Yikes. Ain’t no sure things unless you already have one. /waitinforpeyton
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:31 PM
Frightening for the greater Cincinnati area given his penchant for non-sober driving?
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:31 PM
Two out of three? That’s nothing.

Yeah, but at least wide receiver is a sexy and easy to sell pick. No one gets excited over a fat dude, even when it is the right pick.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:43 PM
This is the one I’ve been waiting for all day.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:44 PM
Tom Brady would just LOVE for them to move a safety up to cover the TEs man coverage.
What’s Revis gonna do without safety help over the top (he loves to claim he plays man, but he gets a lot of help)
Also, with the Sandusky/Conlin/Fine stories and the upcoming crackdown on rape, most of Revis’ coverage techniques will be flagged now.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:45 PM
With the season he had, I’d be surprised to see Vontaze go in the first round. Unless there’s just a dearth of LBs in this year’s draft.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:45 PM
But we wanted Vince Young or Reggie Bush!

Didn’t know the torn Achilles was a terminal condition. Has the Leshoure family been notified?
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:53 PM
I think 10th overall is a little high for him there buddy. But yeah, definitely see the Eagles drafting a LB. Of course, knowing Reid, he’ll draft a WR or a DT to piss everyone off.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:58 PM
There is zero chance the Browns take Richardson if Blackmon is on the board. Squirmer doesn’t even like to run the ball, so why draft a stud RB just to pull him on 3rd and short when you can do some stupid west coast 5-yard pass attempt that goes incomplete?
Blackmon or Claiborne for Browns at 4.
December 23rd, 2011 at 1:58 PM
This is fucking ridiculous. I’m the only one in lab today. Then I went downstairs to borrow a microscope/camera from the 11th floor… and all 5 labs are deserted and locked up. I feel like Milhouse in the cracker factory. “So this is my life”
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:00 PM
Stop it.
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:08 PM
I could see the Skins giving up their 1st & 2nd round picks to CLE to get RG3 at #4 overall. CLE would have to settle for a DE there at 7 and just use the 20, 36 & 41 for RB, Right Tackle and WR.
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:11 PM
Fuck off. Lions will go CB or LB.
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:11 PM
Uh, not in the first round.
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:14 PM

December 23rd, 2011 at 2:15 PM
Claiborne and Haden would be awesome.
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:16 PM
I pray this happens. Love the guy, think he should get more credit for Griffin’s year than he gets.
The only thing is that I don’t think he’ll be there at no. 32, which is where the Texans will be picking.

December 23rd, 2011 at 2:24 PM
I still think Ryan Lindley is gonna be a steal for someone – thought he might be a late 1st rounder (think SF). I’d rather have him over Landry Jones.
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:26 PM
Top 5 are Luck, Kalil, Blackmon, RG3 and Claiborne. Things could get wild if Indy puts the pick up for a trade.
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:28 PM
no way in hell does a RB go #4 over all.
and no way in hell do the Lion take a first round RB.
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:32 PM
SEA would go for Matt Flynn WAY before a risky pick like Jones.
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:33 PM
Damn, I am bummed I missed this. TBL, I admire that you are willing to make predictions and put them out there, but if you want any sense of redibility, you really should do more research on how teams draft and what they view as needs, as well as pay attention to recent draft picks. For example, Rams have spent a 1st and a high 2nd (33rd overall) on OT. I doubt they will spend another top 5 pick there. Same thing applies to Lions and RBs. Its one thing to be bold, but this comes across as plain ignorance and/or laziness.
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:33 PM
SG has clearly never been to an academic research institution
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:36 PM
Shit… who cares his age… I wouldn’t draft him first round, but if you like him, 2nd round is fine for a cheap backup QB. If you get anyone 2nd round or lower, who cares if you don’t have him past his rookie contract. Most picks aren’t with a team past that anyway, and now you don’t spend two years waiting for him to grow into his body.
/if he’s a legit pro prospect
//i have no idea
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:37 PM
Excellent use of the ‘compliment sandwich’. Next time you might consider adding a second piece of ‘bread’. Overall, it was a productive comment though.
December 23rd, 2011 at 2:44 PM
I hardly think that they are going to give up on Mikel Leshoure just yet.
December 23rd, 2011 at 6:59 PM
soooo guess TBL has the eagles losing tomorrow
December 23rd, 2011 at 7:04 PM
You couldve just waited less than 2 weeks and did this with the proper order…
December 23rd, 2011 at 10:59 PM
Ryan Lindley is gonna be a steal for someone – thought he might be a late 1st rounder (think SF)
Is Lindley rated this highly? I like him but I don’t think he’s going in the 1st or 2nd round.
December 26th, 2011 at 1:04 PM
No way on earth do the Dolphins not draft a QB in round 1 – unless they somehow traded for Peyton Manning, which is not happening in this universe.
Further, Brandon Weeden’s age (28) may scare some, but he’s a great QB and the Fiesta Bowl will likely increase his stock. Further, 28 is not that bad – if he can be a starter within a year (at 29), he’ll still have 5-6 very good years ahead of him. If the talent warrants it, you have to take a QB even if it is not going to last 10-12 years.
December 26th, 2011 at 1:07 PM
Bills have a better record – and though they will lose to the Pats, the Jets would still be slightly favored over the Dolphins.
December 27th, 2011 at 7:49 PM
Anybody know the deal with Zach Brown? Some boards have him going late in the first round even though he’s the number 1 outside linebacker and Mel Kiper doesn’t even have him in his top 32.
