Virginia Tech’s Kicker, Cody Journell, Arrested for Breaking and Entering
You know what goes hand-in-hand with bowl season? College football players getting arrested. It’s nearly impossible to keep up with the flood of college arrests and suspensions in December, but anytime a kicker is involved in B & E, you know it’s going to garner some headlines:
Three Blacksburg men, including Virginia Tech kicker Cody Journell, have been arrested and charged with breaking and entering after an alleged home invasion late Wednesday night.
Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Blacksburg police responded to a residence on Lee Street, just outside of the downtown area, in reference to a physical altercation, according to a morning news release.
An investigation into an alleged home invasion began shortly after and resulted in the arrests of Cody J. Journell, 20; Matthew D. Dunton, 23; and Matthew I. Brady, 21.
Each were charged with breaking and entering, a Class 2 felony due to the alleged use of a dangerous weapon, according to police.
Journell was an honorable mention All-ACC kicker in 2011, making 14 of 17 field goals, including his final 10. Scuttlebutt among VT fans is that a fight broke out downtown and Journell and his buddies followed some people home to resolve matters. I’m curious who was holding the deadly weapon, and what it was. Unless maybe the kicker’s feet have been declared deadly weapons?

Wow… the additions to the MLB HOF ballot this year really do suck. Bill Mueller is the only sure-fire entrant.

OK, I don’t want to hear in 2033 that Jeromy Burnitz was HOF-caliber by use of some new-fangled stat (“His wORP/extended-whozitz/pre-balanced for his era is better than Babe Ruth!”).

I am a Yankees fan, and I was just kidding.

He makes a good point re: the backlog. You have a bunch of people voting for Bonds/McGwire/Palmiero, and a bunch who won’t. And then other possibly deserving candidates like say Tom Glavine, who maybe would get in, but only being able to vote for 10, there will be voters who won’t vote for Glavine (eg take a vote away from Bonds etc) until those guys get in, who may be blocked. You could eventually get a stalemate with steroid guys getting 60% and deserving guys with no steroid rumors also getting 60%, but not enough votes to get anyone in.

Jose Conseco got the same number of votes in 2007.

There’s your first mistake, Cody. This ain’t Hollywood – you can’t just go busting into someone’s home, even if it’s “drug deal gone bad”. He’s fortunate he didn’t get his butt shot off.

If I had to pick one shortstop to start one game, I’d pick Honus Wagner. Therefore, I can’t vote for him on the first ballot.

I’m on /team TBL vs. that douche. Though I will say, the only reason TBL makes crazy picks is so that he can link to the few that work and say “I told you so”. Kind of annoying with all the self pats on the back…
