I’ve always thought that if you couldn’t have Nash or Paul to run D’antonis system that 2006 Baron Davis would be a good guy to run it. So I guess what I am trying to say is that the Knicks are not going to be good.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:23 AM
Mike Freeman is a douche.
Brees’ soon-to-be record deserves an asterisk.
This is the kind of douchetastic article I would expect from the Bill Conlin-esque baseall writers of the world.
If it’s so easy to get the record now, why was Brees the only one to challenge it for the last 27 years until 2011?
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:25 AM
Yeah, everybody had the day off the Wednesday before Christmas.
/RATINGS!

Michelle Obama has a “large posterior“
Somewhere on the interwebs there is a picture of the first ladies of the US, France and Spain walking up some steps. Yes, that is a big ass.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:30 AM
Needs more of this.
/Obligatory

Michelle Obama has a “large posterior“…
it’s gotta be a ba-donkey for the commander in chief
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:31 AM
If the Knicks are going to be good, it’s all about Baron Davis.
Isn’t his back supposed to keep him out another 7-9 weeks? So he’s going to come in rusty and have to play like 40 games in 75 days, with a balky back and no legs? I like Baron but I think just b/c he re-habbed his image busting it with the Cavs for 1 month doesn’t mean he wasn’t kinda lame for the past few years.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:32 AM
Dong shots are involved
who woulda thought? TBL linking to an athlete dong story?
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:33 AM
Apparently that picture is a fake. Stupid Snopes.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:33 AM
Well Brady will probably pass it too. So I wouldn’t say the only one.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:36 AM
Maybe it doesn’t deserve an asterisk, but you can’t deny it’s easier nowadays. There were 13 4000 yard passing seasons in the decade of the 80′s. There will probably be 10 just this year.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:37 AM

December 22nd, 2011 at 8:39 AM
Michelle is keeping it pretty well together for being upper 40′s.

Dong shots has a whole different meaning to me and my wife. I had to read the article to know what it meant.
/old school
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:41 AM
Manning could also do it. He’s on average to be around 100 yards short, but the Giants do play the Jets this week…
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:42 AM
Two are on the pace this year. Three were for a while. But the only one who came that close was Brees in 08. I wanna say Warren Moon came close once, but I may be wrong.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:42 AM
As could Rodgers. There is no denying it is easier to throw then it was when Marino set the record. Cam Newton and Matt Ryan are going to throw for 4,000 yards this year.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:43 AM
Brees needs what? 450 yards? He could do it this week.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:44 AM
There is no asterisk by Eric Dickerson’s record, right? And he had 2 more games than O.J. Simpson.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:44 AM
Brees needs 302. He could get it Monday night. And aren’t people theorizing that the pace this year is due to the holdout and the offenses being ahead of the defenses?
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:45 AM
manning, brady, culpepper and brees have all had seasons where they’ve threatened but petered out at the end. it’s becoming more common and makes marino’s record from 84 all the more impressive.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:46 AM
Matt Schaub threw for like 4,800 in 09′. Matt Schaub.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:46 AM
It’s ok, Breesus. No one is literally going to put an asterisk in the record book. Everything is all good.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:49 AM
Fucking pizza hut. Ruins a good thing with more Tebow bullshit. Why not get the fucking quarterback who went to a fucking ivy league school to be your spokesperson?
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:49 AM
Didnt Marino have shitty receivers as well? I heard this on the radio.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:49 AM
Breesus I like the Saints and Brees et al but I really don’t think people at large give a crap about this passing record. Is this the single season yardage record?
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:49 AM
Crazy fucked up world we live in.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:50 AM
This. But having the record doesn’t mean that Brees is better than Marino was either.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:51 AM
Neil Lomax was pretty good in 1984, but look at how crazy Marino was that year. Yeah he was pretty good, no asterisk needed.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:51 AM
He was one dropped pass short of it IIRC.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:51 AM
If only this douche had said “large black posterior” then we could call him a racist and get him kicked out of office.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:52 AM
Is anyone still watching American Horror Story?
I’ve stuck with it because there are just enough moments of potential to keep me coming back. But last night’s season finale went completely off the rails. I was curious where they would go with the story after the previous week, but the direction they took was really bad. Not to mention poorly executed. I think I’m done with that one now.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:52 AM
Clayton, Duper, and Nat Moore. They were not bad.
I know. Brees actually won a Super Bowl.
/shots fired
//just having fun
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:52 AM
Breezes is worried that the asterisk is going to refer the reader to the Dallas cowboys section of the record book, since even official record books hate the saints.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:53 AM
well…because they’re pizza hut and ryan fitzpatrick is horrible again.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:53 AM
Yeah, that never gets old.
/wanking motion
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:53 AM
He had Clayton and Duper….both very good. He had no running back.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:54 AM
First time I’ve heard that, so I guess the answer is no… The stringent rules on secondaries is the root of everyone throwing it all over the place seems to be the go to explanation.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:54 AM
didn’t he have both Mark Duper and Mark Clayton at the time? they were both pretty solid. now running backs on the other hand, I don’t think Marino ever had one of those.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:56 AM
doesn’t pizza hut have $10 any pizza or something? they just opened one down from my house and I haven’t eaten pizza hut in years. it has to be better than papa murphy’s either way.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:57 AM
Oh Neil Lomax how you could have those early years in AZ much better…
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:57 AM
The dolphins didn’t have shitty receivers and they didn’t have a shitty defense (the killer B’s) in the early Marino years. they couldn’t run it and so they didn’t run it.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:58 AM
Thank Polian and the butthurt Colts for that.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:58 AM
Tony Nathan could catch passes out the backfield. His TEs were Joe Rose and Bruce Hardy. Both were average.
December 22nd, 2011 at 8:59 AM
So…then they’re not going to be good?
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:01 AM
I’d say the Dolphins receivers were as good if not better than the Saints receivers. But Sproles, Pierre Thomas, and Graham are better than anything the Dolphins had.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:04 AM
Iowa: The Harvard of Coaching.
Iowa? The team with only one conference championship (not shared) in over 50 years? None in 25 years? How the hell does this happen? Ferentz is even more overrated than I thought.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:06 AM
Jimmy graham wouldn’t be nearly as good if a linebacker could take his head off downfield repeatedly. And Anquan Boldin would have died on the field with the 80s rules.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:06 AM
tOSU can donate Iowa the vacated title. It’s the season of giving and such…
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:07 AM
Anyone have any good remedies for preventing leg cramps while you’re sleeping? I got one in my left calf last night that woke me out of a dreaming sleep. It still hurts right now.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:08 AM
Boldin was back two weeks after having his face smashed in. If anybody would be dead in the 80′s rules it would Welker or Woodhead or Jackson.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:09 AM
this guy robbed a bank with a glue gun Said the glue gun was a bomb. So no photos of him wildly waving around the glue gun. Weak.
and now Willie Gault
Tecmo. Run McMahon backwards and throw the bomb to Gault. Pretty unstoppable play.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:09 AM
i didn’t think he had any receivers, which is why he was such a legendary QB, amounting stats without anyone catching passes.

she also looks very very similar to the alien that pops out of the guys stomach at the diner on spaceballs.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:16 AM
Who is this and where do I get one?
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:18 AM
Mark Clayton was a very good receiver. Mark Duper had about a 4 year speed receiver window where he was one the best deep threats in the game. It’s just not true that Marino was throwing to crap.

December 22nd, 2011 at 9:29 AM
But each fruit comes with it’s own advantages and disadvantages.
Strawberries and apricots also have Vitamin C but are high in sugar.
Spinach and broccoli are high in Vitamin E which thickens the blood and helps prevent bruises, but that’s not necessarily a good thing if you have high cholesterol.

December 22nd, 2011 at 9:33 AM
So, I log on to here and I have to be greeted with a pic of some circus, assembly line looking chick in a bathing suit just because she might be dating the Jets QB. Then I have to look through this thread and see the assertion that Marino had the all time passing yardage season and career with no receivers when in fact he had the Marks Brothers for 10 years who were in fact very good, plus Tony Nathan catching passes out of the backfield, and later in his career, Keith Jackson and Irving Fryar. Goodness.

I-40 through Tennessee is brutal. 2 hours of nothing between Knoxville and Nashville, then 2 more hours of nothing between Nashville and Memphis, then you cross the Mississippi and 2 more hours of nothing between Memphis and Little Rock. Then absolutley nothing between there and Oklahoma City.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:51 AM
So I see a lot of other people are working today. Today and tomorrow are company holidays but here I am at work.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:51 AM
Steve Ott is a fucking cock sucking piece of shit.
I don’t disagree with that at all.
He’s also exactly what you want in a 3rd/4th line player – just enough offense (good for 12-20 goals a year) that he can slide up and down the lineup when injuries hit, reliable defensively and plenty of sandpaper.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:51 AM
I-5 going south through downtown Seattle is the worst. At least going North you may have a fighting chance if the earthquake hits, southbound you would be a pancake.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:51 AM
Racist.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:51 AM
The league threw a team struggling to sell tickets a giant bone with the number of primetime games this year.
You’re exactly right about the league throwing trying to throw them a bone…. my only question is… are people more inclined to go to a game on Monday night if the team is still mediocre-to-bad? Wouldn’t more people want to go on their day off, rather than having to take a half day Monday and then getting home at 1AM?
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:52 AM
I’m here today and tomorrow, but tomorrow is the last day of work for the year for me.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:52 AM
At least there are rolling hills and some scenery. Driving through flat farm land is the worst.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:53 AM
Kris Humphries and his dad are unlike able even back when he was in high school here in the Twin Cities. No one liked him and Monson only recruited him after Kansas said thanks but no thanks (cuz you and your dad are a douche) during his campus visit.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:53 AM
are people more inclined to go to a game on Monday night if the team is still mediocre-to-bad?
Not if you look at the past couple years, people weren’t going to games on Sundays. Bringing national attention to the city for a game or two can’t hurt.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Yeah driving through Jersey does suck a big one. All of the major roads (95/195/295), Parkway and the Turnpike are kind of awful. Then you have the AC Expressway which is weird as well. The nice parts of Northwest Jersey are really nice to drive through in Sept/Oct or the spring.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:54 AM
I-95 down Florida. Drove it countless times in college and years after. Boring ass flat drive with shitty drivers and snowbirds.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:54 AM
We have a half day at school today. Most useless day ever. We had one exam today that just ended. Now students go to all the other classes they already finished their exams in. All they’re gonna do is sit here and bitch about their grades, which are already in.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:55 AM
I-40 through Tennessee is brutal.
I-40 East of Knoxville heading into NC was was one of the coolest stretches of highway I’ve been on east of the Mississippi. Cut right through the mountains.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:55 AM
I once drove through Nevada and then through Idaho on my way to Washington. That was miserable. Hoping to god your car doesn’t break down in the middle of the Nevada desert and then nothing but farms through Idaho.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:55 AM
i agree, it’s too bad the main corridors everyone drives through NJ on are in shitty areas, no one sees the nice parts of the state.
/from NJ
Agreed. I have tons of friends in Western Morris and Sussex counties and there are some very scenic routes there. Hunterdon, and parts of Mercer are not bad.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:56 AM
I turn east instead of west at Albert Lea, and yes, it is a continuation of the terribleness that envelopes all of Iowa.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:56 AM
I’ll take him on the Wings in a jiffy. Fuck the Canucks. Holy shit was Bobbby Lou good last night.

Hey Geeez, do Canadians do anything special for Boxing Day? Or is it similar to Labor Day here in that it’s just a day off from work?
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:58 AM
all you have to do in most places is just get off the highway to see some really nice scenery, anywhere in the princeton area, obviously, anywhere off 287 in Morristown in the 202/206 area is really nice… and very expensive.
just don’t ever get off the highway on rt 80 unless you are west of Dover
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:58 AM
Here today, back next Wednesday.

I-95 down Florida. Drove it countless times in college and years after. Boring ass flat drive with shitty drivers and snowbirds.
Turnpike is pretty brutal too. They have those random rest stops in the median in the middle of fucking nowhere though.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:59 AM
you want to talk about awful, AWFUL drives?
when id drive from cleveland to dallas, you’re on i-44 thru oklahoma for 378 miles. it’s entirely straight, there’s nothing but burnt grass on either side, and it was usually 500 degrees driving thru there. there is NO scenery whatsoever. it’s horrible.
my dad said driving thru the dakotas made him think about suicide.
December 22nd, 2011 at 9:59 AM
It’s not bad once you get around the Grayling / Gaylord area.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:00 AM
Yup, Hopewell, Lawrenceville (around 206), Pennington and Princeton are nice, but anything on a main artery is usually not too good. And we all know about Trenton. Woof.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:00 AM
The Jolly Green Giant disagrees.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:00 AM
my dad said driving thru the dakotas made him think about suicide.
I’ve heard that they purposely designed the freeways to have bends/turns, so people wouldn’t fall asleep from driving perfectly straight on flat terrain for 300 miles.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:00 AM
I have to work 10 hours Tuesday through Friday of next week since I don’t get paid holidays or vacation days. Fuck all of you for complaining about only getting a couple days off.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:01 AM
really? I think most of I-40 isn’t too bad. from Little Rock to Memphis is pretty rough, but from Memphis east and Little Rock west to mobilehoma at least you have mountains and trees. I actually like the drive from LR to Memphis too, but that’s because I live here.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:01 AM
Hey Geeez, do Canadians do anything special for Boxing Day? Or is it similar to Labor Day here in that it’s just a day off from work?
Other than in Ontario (iirc) it’s an optional stat, so up the employer to decide whether to give the day off or not. Most companies in Alberta give the day off though.
It’s a massive shopping day and marks the start of the World Junior tournament, which is a big deal here.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:02 AM
I didn’t go or come from that far east. I drove from I-81 in Virginia, so I had seen enough of the mountains and valleys by the time I hit Tennessee
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:02 AM
It’s like Black Friday up here.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:02 AM
did someone say glory hole?
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:02 AM
The worst traffic I’ve ever dealt is either 76 from Philly to the Valley Forge area (blow my brains out) or the 5 in LA.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:02 AM
which is, what, an hour tops from the bridge? 131 from Grand Rapids to Gaylord is the fucking worst.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:03 AM
i like driving thru western PA…very hilly and very scenic.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:04 AM
Spam museum FTW!
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:04 AM
i’ve been on some “newer” highways, or at least redesigned highways, and they are putting a lot of effort in some areas to make the landscape near the road nice and at least interesting.
i did love driving in Austin on the elevated highway ramps. it was probably only a few dozen feet off the ground, but it felt like 100 when you go around the bend and see nothing but the road and sky.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:04 AM
Exception would be the Black Hills area of SD. I loved driving through Wyoming, very rustic, although I’m guessing most would find it boring.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:05 AM
best drive in America? (has to be long)
I’ll vote rt 40 from Albequerque to Hoover Dam
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:05 AM
loved driving thru the west…colorado, montana, idaho, oregon…just beautiful.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:05 AM
shit dude, that is a long ass ways.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:06 AM
The worst traffic I’ve ever dealt is either 76 from Philly to the Valley Forge area (blow my brains out)
The Dan Ryan is always fucking terrible. Chicago has worse traffic than Atlanta by a lot, IMO. At least in Atlanta you’re moving most of the time. Chicago has the idle for minute — move 20 feet — idle for 2 minutes traffic that makes me want to kill myself.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:06 AM
worst traffic I’ve ever encountered while being a driver was in Miami.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:06 AM
I’ve lived and worked in NJ for a long time, so I do agree with this.
That said, the PA Turnpike fucking blows. I have driven all the way to Ohio and Pittsburgh more than once (in addition to taking it to go to PSU from home as an undergrad) and without fail, half of the PA State Police force is there, enforcing a 55 MPH speed limit, which is ridiculous.
Hate Hate Hate that road.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:07 AM
Driving through Vermont on a clear summer night. I’ve never seen so many stars before. The road to Hana in Maui is also amazing, but also the most difficult drive I’ve every done…it’s only 30+ miles but it takes 6+ hours roundtrip because of all of the hairpin turns, one-lane bridges and 15 MPH speed limit.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:08 AM
There are times when that is jammed on a Sunday.
A fucking Sunday.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:08 AM
I-75 from Detroit to Gaylord would disagree.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:08 AM
fucking loved it man.
worst traffic i was part of…dallas had a lot of katrina and refugees and it took us 5 hours to get from dallas to denton, TX, which normally is a shade over a half hour. just awful traffic…felt bad for being salty about it since pretty much 75% of the people stuck in there lost their homes.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:08 AM
I’ve done CLE to Mia before. long drive.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:08 AM
worst traffic I’ve ever encountered while being a driver was in Miami.
More as a result of terrible drivers, right? Miami is the only place I’ve ever feared for my life on a highway. People passing you on the left going 110MPH, geriatrics on your right going 50mph.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:08 AM
I was there when they got snow once. that wasn’t too much fun.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:09 AM
He’s also nestled in the bluffs and hills of the Minnesota River Valley. That’s a pretty drive. At least until Mankato. Then it gets boring
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:09 AM
I hate the sections of rt 78 in PA that are two lane roads and 55mph. worst place to be stuck in traffic near the NJ border since there’s a lot of commuters living in PA but working in NJ.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:10 AM
CT Turnpike. Just a terrible combination of lots of cars and people slowing down for no reason.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:10 AM

December 22nd, 2011 at 10:10 AM
I-80 across Nebraska is the worst I’ve ever done. And I’m not a fan of the asterisk for any records. Conditions always change – hell, Sammy Baugh might pass for 10,000 yards today, who knows?
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:10 AM
Driving through those tunnels under mountains is pretty neat
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:10 AM
I-94 from Madison to Minneapolis isn’t bad… hilly and scenic. I-90 as you approach La Crosse is cool with the bluffs along the Mississippi and all that.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:10 AM
Driving there for 6 years honestly made me a better driver. You learn to expect every car around you to do the most insane thing possible.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:10 AM
Yup…at 10pm on a Sunday. It makes no damn sense. Considering it’s the only major road that leads to the west suburbs, it was dumb to only make it two lanes.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:11 AM
I’ll second rt 40 because it means I am going to Vegas.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:12 AM
I’ll always remember 2011 as the year everyone protested something but had no idea what to do when they got what they wanted so the replacement to what they were protesting was ACTUALLY worse than what they were protesting
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:12 AM
going up to vermont, taking Rt 2 or route 7 from Albany or MA is a nice, nice drive. taking some of the side roads past albany into upper vermont is beautiful. these roads were also the ones that were washed out during the hurricane, and not far from the ski resorts.
the only road that was bad in Maui was near the sugar cane refinery. horrific smell.
the trip up to Haleakala was amazing.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:13 AM
i like driving thru western PA…very hilly and very scenic.

December 22nd, 2011 at 10:13 AM
Drive down 93 from VT through the White Mountain region in NH, particularly after a snowstorm. You get an amazing view of Mt Washington from the highway.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:14 AM
longest I’ve ever done was Fayetteville to Key West. about 24 hours straight in the car, just me and a buddy.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:14 AM
I used to listen to LeBatard’s show pretty regularly and every single day there were at least 5 or 6 accidents mentioned in the traffic report. Why are there so many bad drivers? Is it all the old people?
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:15 AM
Where was the sugar refinery? I don’t remember driving past it when in Maui. We drove up Haleakala at night, but drove down in the morning, but I’ll echo that sentiment.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:17 AM
I think that started in Nov of 2008.

December 22nd, 2011 at 10:18 AM
Old people are definitely part of the equation. But also there are a lot of foreign people- good number without insurance or who even speak english. This of course turns many people who would be normal drivers to lose their shit and drive crazy themselves. It’s like anarchy on the roadways.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:18 AM
I-70 and I-15 from Denver to Vegas is awesome. Go through the Rockies, hit Moab and central Utah, go down through the canyon near the AZ/NV border and pop out in Mesquite.
Worst drive – anything for an extended period anywhere between the Rockies and the Appalachians. Flat, ugly, and featureless.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:19 AM
So, basically, most driving sucks?
Best drive ever? The 101 up the coast from LA to San Francisco.

i love it…you get to see the entire country. i always loved seeing the color of the dirt change and the geographical features and shit.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:21 AM
The drive into Sequoia National Forest is outrageously awesome but like that one in Hawaii, tons of dangerous hairpin turns so the passengers are the only ones that really enjoy it.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:21 AM
3 times. twice by myself. Brutal
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:22 AM
It was on 311, also called the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum. It was located on Hansen Rd, a stones throw from 311. The wind catches it right and all you smell is burning sugar.
we stayed in Wailea so we had to use 311 to get to most places. wasn’t far from Hilo Hattie’s on Maui.

December 22nd, 2011 at 10:23 AM
I gotta say, you’re just fucking retarded, man. that’s some of the most scenic 400 miles in the country. you drive through the mountains and into rolling hills and then into flatlands.
you want a shitty stretch of driving? I-75 south of Atlanta all the way to about Tampa. brutal. and the Georgia stretch is crawling with Staties trying to pull you over for something as asinine as changing lanes without signaling.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:25 AM
Is this the road to Hanna in Maui? Because I don’t think any passengers enjoy that unless you enjoy losing your lunch.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:25 AM
driving>>>flying for me, unless it is something just stupid like cross country.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:26 AM
These guys in college would spring break every year in S Padre Island, and both go in these El Camino type minivans (think cover of El Camino). They’d wager a week’s worth of beer on who could get to their condo first, leaving from the same parking lot.

I never minded the drive through VA from DC to TN on I-81. it was long, but you’re in a valley for a lot of the trip with mountains on both sides.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:30 AM
you’re lucky. it made me regret getting a convertible for the trip.
how was that Hyatt, we thought about staying there.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:30 AM
Yes, that’s the road to Hanna in Maui. We drove about 2/3 of it when we were there. My wife had to keep me calm because of how frustrating that drive is for me.

When I moved to New Jersey when I was younger, I was always told that when a Jersey driver uses a turn signal, that it wasn’t indicative of the direction the driver was going to go so much as it was as indicative that SOMETHING was about to happen.
That seems accurate to this day to me.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:34 AM
I hate that shit while city driving. People just going along then slow-stop and turn with people behind them. Is it that much of a back breaking task to lift your hand to the turn signal device?
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:34 AM
Its really bad. I stopped to sight see several times just because the motion sickness.

Manufacturer installed or after-market? Don’t really care about it. Just hate that people refuse to signal.
It was really nice. The pool was awesome, restaurants were really good. The beach was a little small, so we had to walk down to the Westin which had more beach.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:38 AM
I can’t compete with the distances that some of you guys have done, but I’ve driven from NJ to NC a few times, and it was through the night after a full day of work.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:44 AM
at least none of you had to actually witness that.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:44 AM
So is that Zombie show on AMC (the name escapes me for some reason) worth buying on Bluray?. I keep forgetting to DVR this season but I kinda want to start from the beginning. Its also hard for me to watch around here since my wife absolutely hates zombies. She wouldnt even watch Zombieland with me
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:45 AM
I don’t know if they were manufacturer installed or not. the Camry we bought right after we got married was 3 years old and had mirror tinted windows. we were driving through GA on our way from FL to TN and I got pulled over because they’re illegal in GA. the cop told me he could make me peel them off right there on the side of the road but he was in a good mood so I could do it when I got back home.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:47 AM
In a perfect world you could A. Tell him to get fucked and that you’re only driving through his shitty state and It will be legal again or B. Peel it off and send him the bill the redo it
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:47 AM
I use my turn signal if I’m on the highway, but in a bigger city I usually don’t. I was always told that in the city if you use a signal it makes everyone speed up to get in front of you, so fuck that.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:49 AM
it was as indicative that SOMETHING was about to happen.
That seems accurate to this day to me.
Yep. I’ve had that happen to me and I’ve done that to people. I have almost an hour commute each way, and on an average, flip off asshole drivers at least 3 times.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:50 AM
Its great in moderation. After an hour or so, its nothing. If I make that run again, maybe I’ll gulp down a case of barbecue sauce first and I’ll enjoy it as you have.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:53 AM
If anyone is in the holiday spirit (or would like to get in one after fucking Spencer ruined it for everyone), may I suggest donating to the Animal Farm Foundation or buying something off their Amazon wish list. This Foundation filed a lawsuit against those fucks in Iowa who won’t let a retired, disabled cop use his service dog because she’s a pitbull mix.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:54 AM
The drive through WV is actually not bad b/c the mountains and the lack of speed enforcement. Virginia is heinous. Cops everywhere.
December 22nd, 2011 at 10:57 AM
thats a good thing. Virginia traffic enforcement system (cops and courts)based on what they enforce have most VA drivers believe being a good driver is not speeding and being a defensive driver. Which means some of the worst drivers you’ll encounter on a highway anywhere are Virginia drivers, who don’t signal when changing lanes, make turns or change lanes with Hyundais like they’re driving an 18 wheeler, and slow down to 30 miles an hour on I95 when they see a cop with a car already pulled over amongst other things.
December 22nd, 2011 at 11:00 AM
I always thought that Jersey drivers were the worst in the country…that was until multiple trips through VA. Good god, VA drivers are the worst in the country bar none.
Top five worst (for me):
VA, Massholes, NY, NJ, FL

I have no words.
Otherwise, regarding the “worst drive” piece, I’m surprised no one mentioned west Texas, say Dallas to Midland. Flat. Dusty. Hot. Oil derricks everwhere.
For “scenic drive”, I-25 thru Colorado down to Raton Pass is pretty sweet. Lotsa mountains, and gleaming “on account of that frostin’”

you’re welcome. I hope people will donate or buy off the wish list. Poor Snickers has to spend Christmas in a kennel without her owners.

A little past El Paso to a little before San Antonio was 80mph zone back in 2007. I think they changed it to 85mph if I am to believe a link in the RoundUp a few months ago.

For scenery, Sea to Sky Highway up here – Vancouver to Whistler – is pretty hard to beat.

it’s pretty shitty. I’m in the giving mood this year, so I’ll be happy to contribute something, along with my other donations to groups this year.

UNC played some defense last night, but if they’re going to win a championship this year they need to get tougher inside. I understand Henson is a 6’1″ guy in a 6’11″ body, but enough with the 20 foot set shots and the leak outs when it’s Zeller against four Texas guys on the offensive glass. This guy should stay all four, if for nothing else than to use another year to mature and build up his body. This is where the Wear twin transfers are going to hurt; they have height and length inside, but not girth. Yup, that’s right- girth.
