Well in Arizona, in the jail you can really only die from heat exhaustion or a deputy beating you to death. In prison a hardened criminal will rape you and eventually kill you.

I guess everyone here missed the original bsanders story. Dont make the poor guy relive his prison days.

I read the article, re-read TBL’s pitch of the article, and drew my own conclusions that there’s no way he actually read it first.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:05 AM
TBL has to be frothing at the mouth for the Sanchez\Upton post. It’s a TBL perfect storm post — the only thing that could make it better was if Sanchez sent Upton dong pics and TBL had them.

If successful businesspeople don’t go public to share their stories and talk about their troubles, “they deserve what they’re going to get,” said Marcus, 82, a founding member of Job Creators Alliance, a Dallas-based nonprofit that develops talking points and op-ed pieces aimed at “shaping the national agenda,” according to the group’s website.
Fair enough. Make yourself heard if you want.
“Who gives a crap about some imbecile?” Marcus said. “Are you kidding me?”
Ummm, you do. You started an organization because you cared so much.

I think Ryan Lindley (SDSU) is the sleeper QB selection. If he doesn’t get picked in the early first round, he’s your guy. Snaps off passes like Rodgers, although I’m not sure he’s proven he can read a complex defense.

I will give you this paragraph from “The Quotable Hitchens”:
Oppositionism – which combines skepticism with a compulsion to argue – is not contrarianism, which is a style more than a discipline. Its style is the anti-style, its principles are situational and transitory, and its adherents are as boring and imitative as any herd of dependent minds. The lingua franca of nonconformity, like the obsessively ironic costumes of Brooklyn hipsters, gets stale very quickly and, in the end, if not sooner, it is self-negating.

Is the crane in that Huskie Stadium roof video supposed to jerk and sway as violently as it does around 42 seconds? Looked like it wanted to topple over. I’m assuming those things are built in a way that allows them to sway or whatever, but that brought back memories of Big Blue toppling over.

Well you are comparing facilities that serve different purposes. The physical academic research library has been undergoing a major philosophical and resource allocation change for years, but the digital library is more important than ever. The physical library is becoming more about collaboration facilities and digital training/support, while maintaining a smaller amount of hardcopy resources. But it still stands as the center of a great university, in spirit and location.

Besides styling the Canadian Tuxedo proudly for multiple decades, Bryan Adams made a lot of good accessible music. Ryan Adams has a couple of songs (I like Magick) but will never be able to reach the career heights of Bryan Adams, which I believe includes playing the halftime show of the Arena Bowl.

3 people died. Delayed the stadium opening by a whole year. Clusterfuck indeed. If I recall correctly, they were doing that lift on a day when winds were gusting up to 25-30mph… which seems ill-advised.

My thoughts as well. Needs more Ork (sp?) and battles.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:33 AM
That’s been the case over the years. The most popular stuff is rarely the best that is being made.

Not an engineer, but looking at when it shimmied like that, I think it was holding on to the roof section to keep it from falling off the upper deck of seats, so it was supposed to shimmy.

*straightens up*
you do not want a crane jerking/swaying like that. they’re built to deflect because of varying and unexpected conditions, but as soon as I saw that one lurch on the video, I knew somebody just shit their pants…probably multiple somebodies.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:34 AM
Ken Shamrock. Legend.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:35 AM
yes. The primary crane operator walked off the job that morning. He refused to work in the dangerous conditions (which was his perfectly legal right). It was another guy operating that machine and well, we see what happened.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:35 AM
Seattle had a crane collapse not too long ago. I think in Bellevue. Crane collapsed and fell into a high rise condominium killing one of Microsofts Lawyers. Talk about a fuck up.

the greatest ass of all time.
Yup.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:35 AM
Totally, but he did it on Twitter. Dude is a MASSIVE homer.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:35 AM
depending on the operator you ask, you cant make a lift with 20mph sustained winds. Im no operator but we use cranes for 90 percent of our work. I have also heard 30mph. There is an OSHA standard but I dont know what it is.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:35 AM
hell no…ill gladly take the bland, generic music scene like we have today for the infinite access that comes with it. there’s good shit out there, just gotta find it.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:35 AM
They don’t want to spoil everything and trust me, considering they split the book into two, there is a fair amount of action in the first half.

Ken Shamrock. Legend.
My favorite Ken Shamrock moment was when he was in an angle in WWF featuring his “sister” Ryan Shamrock and they were fighting over something and Ken Shamrock said “Slap Me” loud enough that you could hear it on the broadcast. Even the 13 year old me knew that was ridiculous.

I had a friend convinced that Bryan Adams and Steve Kerr were the same person. As the story went, Kerr had to come up with a stage name because the NCAA refused to allow him to perform under his real name and maintain his eligibility.

YES! This is what drives me crazy about music today. Lotsa crap that gets exposure, promotion, etc. Most music consumers are too lazy to seek out the really good stuff.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:38 AM
And lets remember this: OSHA is the BARE minimum. Its the company policy that has to meet and should exceed OSHA standards

Per yesterday’s Dark Knight thread, I busted out a DVD. Opening lines:
Nine ball is rotational pool – the balls are pocketed in number order. The only ball that means anything – that wins it – is the nine. Now the player can shoot eight trick shots in a row and blow the nine and lose. On the other hand – the player can get the nine in on the break if the balls spread right, and win. Which is to say that luck plays a part in Nine-ball. But for some players, luck itself is an art.

the wind MPH limits for cranes depends on size of crane and project. I’m still researching the specifics

December 21st, 2011 at 9:43 AM
yeah most of the shit we lift is heavy so that plays a part. our standard for a critical lift is 10lbs and I know its higher for OSHA
December 21st, 2011 at 9:43 AM
Spence, have you ever heard anything by the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan? He did a collaboration with Eddie Vedder on the Dead Man Walking soundtrack. Just a totally different voice with a fantastic range. Check it out.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:43 AM
all of this. I know a lot of people give Mike Holmes crap for going above and beyond when his crew fix up the houses in Canada but I’d rather work for a company that exceeds code than one that skirts by doing the minimum and putting people in danger.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:43 AM

Yeah man, it was a weird night. I saw someone pull a gun on someone outside of Indigo/Player’s Club. My other friend left the bar to go back to th eplace we were staying — but went to the wrong apt. building and got the police called on him. He got a drunk\disorderly and blew like a .29 or something.

I remember when Mark Sanchez was “dating” Hayden Panettiere too. Give it up. We all know that Kate’s got at least a dozen Derek Jeter signed baseballs in her Flatiron apartment. The real New York bachelor is the one that is making panty soup for Kate Upton.

needs a “/no homo”…unless you’re, you know…not that there’s anything wrong with that.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:47 AM
No, 10,000. My point was that Its hard for me to remember OSHA when all of our standards exceed them. I think your normal critical lift is 15-20,000 lbs and ours is 10,000. I think the OSHA standard for wind is 30 but our is 20mph sustained winds

You’d be surprised which Division I school has produced the most coaches and assistants.
The article was cool overall. Love Fry’s leadership and mentoring style. The part about the horsewhip beating was some kinda messed up, though.

December 21st, 2011 at 9:51 AM
They can’t beat Minnesota’s mountains, though.
December 21st, 2011 at 9:51 AM
Hawks trotted to the penalty box way too much in the first 40 minutes. Can’t give a team as good as Pittsburgh that many chances on the man advantage in their own barn. Credit to the Pens for taking advantage of them. I appreciate the Hawks not rolling over in the 3rd period and making a game of it. That Kane to Hossa to Kane to Stalberg goal was one of the best three man weaves you’ll ever see.
Hopefully Engelland gets a view from the Consol press box for the next two games. That non-call on his hit with Kruger in the first period changed the game. Scott beat the living fuck out of him but got the instigator penalty that caused the game to change. Pittsburgh scores a PP goal and goes on to control the next 35 minutes of the game.
Really want a 7 game finals series between those two teams. It’d be high quality hockey for the Cup.

Proving he’s a top 5 player in this league over the past couple weeks. He’s been on fire. 3 assists last night, two of them primary ones. He had two stretch passes on the first two goals (click the camera next to the goals), both resulted in breakaway chances. Just fucking markers.
