Urban Meyer’s first year at Ohio State won’t end in a Big Ten title, and his stress level just increased considerably. According to the Columbus Dispatch, the NCAA will levy a one-year bowl ban on Ohio State. Perhaps more significantly, the Buckeyes will be docked an additional four scholarships on top of the five already imposed bringing the total to nine scholarships over three years.

Former coach Jim Tressel will also receive a show-cause penalty. Regardless of the length, that likely terminates his coaching career at the NCAA level.

Update: It’s unclear how this will affect Ohio State. The bowl ban was probably something they would have wanted to know about a month ago. They can probably weather the loss of three scholarships per season, though they can opt to divide the scholarships reductions how they wish. If there is any transfer attrition, it likely won’t be as devastating as USC’s was after the two-year ban.
