Barry Bonds Avoids Jail Time, Gets 2 Years Probation, Community Service, Fined $4,000
Barry Bonds was sentenced today to 2 years probation with 30 days of location monitoring and 250 hours of community service. Oh, and he was hit with a $4,000 fine. (And an extra $100 for something.) Judge Susan Illston said that precedence was 15-21 months in jail, but went along with the probation officer’s recommended sentence. In the end, Bonds’ charity work and philanthropy helped lighten the sentence. Bonds still has an opportunity to appeal the sentence and his defense team said they will. Why not? Let’s make this an even decade.
Also, here’s Barry’s enormous head stuffed into a novelty ice-cream sundae helmet at the 2007 All-Star game:

I am in a bowl pool with big money on the line. We pick 4 games to be heavily weighted…I need one more big game. Who has a Lock of the Bowl Season for their old buddy Babar?
With spread and the O/U.

Finally the government can get back to focusing on shit that doesn’t really matter like jobs and other things
December 16th, 2011 at 2:43 PM
I think that $100 was for crossing guards’ salaries.
At least that’s what they told me in July and September for my speeding tickets…
December 16th, 2011 at 2:43 PM
Community Service, that’ll learn em.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:43 PM
Hopefully this will end all of the grandstanding by congress regarding PEDs and sports. Back that truck up for 2 years probation and community service! It was well worth it!
December 16th, 2011 at 2:44 PM
So, when does he trainer buddy get to be released from jail?
December 16th, 2011 at 2:44 PM
Judge Susan Illston said that precedence was 15-21 months in jail, but went along with the probation officer’s recommended sentence.
So, for the legal eagles, does this establish a new precedent?
Jeepers, this guy got off light. Kinda wanted to see a perp walk.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:46 PM
Meh. He still has bacne and shriveled up balls. I hope it was worth it Barry.

December 16th, 2011 at 2:47 PM
Does anybody know how much taxpayer money was spent on this entire case?
December 16th, 2011 at 2:47 PM
DRIVE SOBER, OR GET PULLED OVER
December 16th, 2011 at 2:47 PM
Probably had a nice wad of cash in his hand April 9th.

damnit. AJ out again
December 16th, 2011 at 2:49 PM
who cares? he is an irrelevant shit eater who no one thinks actually holds the home run record.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:49 PM
What are the three you already picked? I’m guessing Boise/ASU was one of them?
December 16th, 2011 at 2:51 PM
I prefer to think of myself as a legal condor. And no, there isn’t really sentencing precedent. The sentencing guidelines establish a range based on the offense, but the probation office provides its recommendation based on more individualized info. The judge isn’t bound to either one.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:51 PM
$60 million dollars wasted on this case. What a joke.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:52 PM
Also, imagine the poor kid who shows up for a day at the community center and has Barry Bonds come in to give him a motivational speech.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:53 PM
Complete embarrassment.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:53 PM
Updated with jarring photograph.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:53 PM
Ha. Do people get fired over that
December 16th, 2011 at 2:54 PM
along with that one, I would go with TCU and OU as well. do you have to get the spread and the O/U?
December 16th, 2011 at 2:55 PM
Well played, sir.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:55 PM
$60 million dollars wasted on this case. What a joke.
I don’t think it’s a waste of tax payer dollars to prosecute people who lie to federal investigators and/or commit perjury before a grand jury/court. Now whether they should even be investigating a subject in the first place is another question entirely.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:56 PM
sadly, I bet people were promoted because of it.
what a fucking crock.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:56 PM
Correct…also Sackerlina and Baylor
December 16th, 2011 at 2:57 PM
You assign points to each spread and O/U…you can spread them unevenly between the two.
December 16th, 2011 at 2:58 PM
No jail time for the home run king*?? Color me shocked! What a waste of money, I still can’t believe they took this case all the way throughout this process. There was no way in hell he was getting any jail time, and non way in hell Greg was testifying.
*Bay Area homerism
December 16th, 2011 at 3:01 PM
I agree with this, but in this particular case they should have dropped it once they couldn’t get Anderson to testify. They spent $60 million on this case and are only getting $4k in return. They only did this because they wanted to make a point, and they actually did accomplish that…. they made a point of how retarded they are.
December 16th, 2011 at 3:06 PM

I wasn’t aware that justice was measured in the same way that investments are. If this were the case, then yes I’d agree that that is a truly shitty return rate.
December 16th, 2011 at 3:10 PM
That’s just putting it in laymen’s terms really. You could also argue they spent $60 million and got nothing in return. They took a gamble they could make some shit stick to the wall, and it didn’t happen that way. Nothing good came out of this entire ordeal, nothing.
December 16th, 2011 at 3:10 PM
Correct…also Sackerlina and Baylor
A pox on your family

I’m not ready, less than an hour after hearing a verdict, to judge the outcome in such absolutist terms.
December 16th, 2011 at 3:14 PM
Ok, so then what did they win? What did they accomplish in all this? I’m honestly curious to hear your thoughts, because I’ve tried to find a silver lining for the prosecution and I can’t find a single thing.

Long term effects are not the sort of thing that can be divined in the first hour after we find out Bonds’ fate. In the short term we can certainly speculate, but that’s all it is is speculation.

December 16th, 2011 at 5:08 PM
Yes this set a new precedent. Bonds is believed to be the first person ever convicted of obstructing justice when he actually answered the question but went on a side track.
He should never have been convicted and he is doing about 4 times the normal sentence this judge gives out for this charge. He did not get off light.
Add to this the nearly unprecedented investagation where the IRS started the investagation knowing it was not a tax case.
December 16th, 2011 at 5:12 PM
No the midget asshole that started this whole thing got a big promotion despite more than one court feeling he is a lying POS.
December 16th, 2011 at 5:15 PM
He is a speed using cheater no home run record for him.
Ruth can’t get it for playing in a segregated league.
I think this leaves just Mark Grace for the title home run king
December 16th, 2011 at 5:34 PM
Nope, Mark Grace fucked fat girls to escape slumps which is insensitive or something. As always the correct answer is David Eckstein, American Hero.
