Tim Tebow is on the Cover of Sports Illustrated For the 2nd Time in 4 Weeks
Sports Illustrated’s timing was perfect: Send Jim Trotter out to Denver to profile quarterback Tim Tebow. Watch as Tebow rallied the Broncos from down 10 with four minutes left to force overtime. And then win in overtime, 13-10.
Up next for the Broncos? Tom Brady and the Patriots in what will be the nationally televised game at 4:15 on CBS Sunday.
Two QBs that women love? Two teams that appear playoff-bound?
Ratings bonanza.
I think Sports Illustrated has founds its new Brett Favre. [via Jimmy Traina]
[UPDATE: As Paul Pabst notes, Tebow has been on the cover of SI seven times. Five at Florida, and now two with the Broncos.]

Ugh.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
lol.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:01 AM
I’ll be at the bar for my first Tebow game of the year. I’m interested to see what all the other drunks will be rooting for, especially since it’s against the Pats. I’m predicting a pro-Tebow bar.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:03 AM
I’m very glad that Philly/NY are getting Jets/Eagles rather than the Pats putting up 45 and ending Tebowmania.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:04 AM
I like what Dan Patrick is saying about all this.
I will be rooting with you CJ!
December 14th, 2011 at 11:04 AM
Woody Paige says this Sunday’s game decides the AFC. In related news, Woody Paige is a monocellular organism.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:05 AM
Woody Paige is a national treasure.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:06 AM
Is Sports Illustrated still relevant?
/serious question
December 14th, 2011 at 11:07 AM
Against Tebow?
December 14th, 2011 at 11:08 AM
There will be blood.
I’m not fucking around CJ. I’m heading down to NYC for this.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:08 AM
I don’t know.
I had a subscription for years given to me as a gift.
When that person stopped footing the bill for the subscription, I’d thought I’d miss it but I really don’t. My favorite thing about SI was starting to become the book excerpts they would print.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:08 AM
45? really? that’d stink.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:09 AM
Will be shocked if that happens. Pats will probably win, but their D is going to be on the field a ton.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:09 AM
Besides the swimsuit edition? I don’t think so.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:10 AM
Text from my brother in law who’s a huge Broncos fan.
BiL: I think I’m going to name my son either “Tim” or “Tebow” after the Bears game.
Hef: Shouldn’t it be either “Matt” or “Prater”?
Hef: Or “Marion” or “Barber”
BiL: Fuck you
BiL: Tebow’s gonna rape the Pats next week.
Hef: Christians really will believe anything despite all evidence to the contrary.
BiL: TEBOW!
/in summation, fuck Tim Tebow
December 14th, 2011 at 11:12 AM
Yes. Plus Brady is my QB.
/I haven’t liked Tebow since he was a Gator. Plus I am sick of people talking about him.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:12 AM
Yup. There’s no way they get that many possessions on offense. Plus Denver’s got a great D and their offense doesnt turn the ball over. This could be a really low scoring affair.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:12 AM
Hef you are so right.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:12 AM
Unless this includes 3 special teams or defensive TD’s by NE, I’m not sure how the Pats put up 45 against the Denver D.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:13 AM
This game reminds me of the Packers game last year… why take it too seriously, when it really doesn’t mean anything. Can clinch the division next week, win or lose, right?
December 14th, 2011 at 11:14 AM
You dont want a bye?
December 14th, 2011 at 11:14 AM
dude, you got BURNED.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:15 AM
Wife was watching E!News last night and they talked Tebow. Its a Tebow world, we’re just sinning in it.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:15 AM
This is one game where I’m not worried about the Pats secondary since Tebow throws like a girl. The Pats D up front is solid.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:16 AM
SI trolling, espn trolling…our sports landscape is entirely reported by trolls.
i hate.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:17 AM
Of course I do, and I guess they do need this to protect conference record. I still think they don’t dominate, no matter what. Pittsburgh is gonna get the 1, and I have no idea what happens if Houston/Pats both win out, but I don’t think the Pats can win out anyway.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:17 AM
Detroit put up 45 with two defensive scores. If you think NE’s offense is better than Detroit’s, then it’s possible their offense does better than 31.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:17 AM
I really don’t get you when it comes to the Pats man.
Yep, I mean look how they did against Sanchez a few weeks back.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:17 AM
Hef, I’m looking forward to seeing how Denver runs the ball. Pats run defense has been top 10 all season but its hard to tell if thats because most teams just throw all over them. This will be their first real test.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:18 AM
SI is terrible.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:18 AM
I’d like to see them take it to the next level by trying to convince us that Joe Flacco is a top tier QB based on the Ravens record like they did with JaMarkus Sanchez.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:18 AM
Why on earth would you think this? Baltimore’s losing 2 of their next 3?
December 14th, 2011 at 11:18 AM
Denver is not a good team. Their offense is especially pitiful. Am I the only person who saw last week’s game?
December 14th, 2011 at 11:19 AM
Broncos were still dropping Tebow back that game. Couldn’t run it, couldn’t do anything. The Buccaneers would have scored 45.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:19 AM
I’m glad that he’s getting what he deserve! its always a benefit for an athlete to have these kind of appreciation. I have written a book “From Athletics to Business” it talks about Why do so many athletes end up in financial ruin?
I hope you edited your book better than that comment.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:20 AM
Awww.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:21 AM
The stack next to my toilet says yes…next trip will involve finishing a piece where they talked to a bunch of guys from the ’86 Bengals to see how they’re living these days
December 14th, 2011 at 11:22 AM
Tebow is immune to the SI cover jinx
December 14th, 2011 at 11:22 AM
have you met john clayton? john, this is hef. hef, this is john and he’d appreciate it if you returned any of his skin flakes that fall off.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:22 AM
You mean the one where an angel pushed Marion Barber out of bounds and then another angel knocked the ball out his hands so that Tebow could kick the game winning FG?
December 14th, 2011 at 11:23 AM
Tim Tebow: “It’s just a game, God doesn’t care who wins or loses.”
Strict creationist using some logic right there. Progress.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:24 AM
Isnt Houston #1 or 2 right now? its confusing. I saw them at 3 last week when they won but other people have them 1 or 2
December 14th, 2011 at 11:24 AM
C’mon man!
/Option-hand off to Mcgahee
/Option-Tebow runs it himself
/Option-crappy throw where Decker makes a spectacular catch
December 14th, 2011 at 11:24 AM
yeah because offense is the only part of a football team..
December 14th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
they are the #1 seed right now.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
An angel? I thought it was Jesus Christ himself.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
Just wait for that fucker to break the Madden curse next year.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:26 AM
And Tebow’s even worse than Sanchez. Ninkovich is gonna have 5 INTs this week I guess.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:26 AM
You bring up his religion more than he does but then get on him for bringing up religion, ATL_Paradox
December 14th, 2011 at 11:26 AM
im all for sophisticated football, but this type of offense is a problem for NFL defenses and will continue to be until tebow gets hurt. NFL defenses are predicated on keying in on offensive “tells” and there aren’t any of those in an option based offnse.
as long as tebow stays healthy, it’s at least a somewhat decent recipe. keeps games close and minimizes turnover risk.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:26 AM
This. They have the best defense in the league right now.
You know who is not a good team? The Patriots. Their Defense is especially pitiful. Am I the only person that saw last weeks game?
December 14th, 2011 at 11:27 AM
They are #1 right now. However if they, Baltimore, and NE all win out, they will be #3 because one of their remaining 3 games is against an NFC opponent, so Baltimore & NE will then have the tie breaker of better conference record
December 14th, 2011 at 11:27 AM
An angel? I thought it was Jesus Christ himself.
In 2000 years, Tim Tebow WILL BE Jesus. His little miracle against the Bears will be akin to walking on water. He’ll also have blue eyes, and flowing blonde hair.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:28 AM
You bring up his religion more than he does but then get on him for bringing up religion, ATL_Paradox
I was complimenting him. But, okay.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:28 AM
But it’s not, they’re averaging 17 points offensively per game in his starts…the notion that Tebow is somehow confusing NFL defenses is all part of what this so frustrating to hear about
December 14th, 2011 at 11:29 AM
That loss to Baltimore will hurt. GO TEBOW!! GO WHOEVER PLAYS BALTIMORE!!
December 14th, 2011 at 11:30 AM
TexansFan, you should be rooting for the Chargers on Sunday night as they host Baltimore.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:30 AM
Prediction: Pats defense will look amazing for 3 quarters. Also, Tebow will get 7/8 of his yardage in the 4th quarter.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:32 AM
Their defense sucks, stats nerd. The Bears have arguably the worst offense in the entire NFL and were able to put up more points than the Broncos through 3 and half quarters in Denver.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
It’s not about confusion; the “problem” comes from it being a reiteration of the most basic tropes of football in a league designed to stop the pass. Run run run, hold the ball, play defense.
Will it work much longer? Fuck, I thought I thought were only going to win 3 games this year. All gravy right now.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:33 AM
I didn’t think schedules were lopsided in a way where a scenario like this could happen. Houston gets penalized because they play one less AFC opponent? Thats weird.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:34 AM
lolz
December 14th, 2011 at 11:34 AM
They put up 10 fucking points.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
Houston gets penalized because they play one less AFC opponent? Thats weird.
Don’t all teams have the same number of conference opponents? Houston should only have 4 games against NFC opponents.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
I don’t understand this though. Back when the Bucs were a good defense and Vick played on the Falcons they were one of the few teams that could reasonably contain him. If anything, I see Tebow the same way except Vick was much faster.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:35 AM
and it’s extremely easy to run so players know their responsibilities a lot more clearly. very flexible too and easy to adjust at the line.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:36 AM
Tebow doesn’t make risky mistakes like Vick. He is more careful
December 14th, 2011 at 11:36 AM
10 points for the Bears is a Jesus Christ miracle. Tebow must have prayed for Martz and company.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:37 AM
Wait, I thought everybody ended with division opponents?
December 14th, 2011 at 11:38 AM
True.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:38 AM
Wait, I thought everybody ended with division opponents?
They do… Tennessee and Indy. CJ’s wrong, they don’t have 3 NFC opponents left.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:40 AM
They also needed a short field for the TD.
I thought Martz actually called a pretty good game, all things considered, and I think Martz is a doof. Running on their nickel packages was really smart.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:40 AM
Yea you are right. CJ’s initial statement was wrong. If all those teams win out they will all be 10-2 in the conference. So I am not sure what tiebreaker would drop Houston to 3. Is that common opponents?
December 14th, 2011 at 11:41 AM
They do… Tennessee and Indy. CJ’s wrong, they don’t have 3 NFC opponents left.\
Misread CJ’s comment… but they do finish with 2AFC opponents and they play the same number of NFC teams.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:42 AM
The Bears that game about as well as could be expected with no quarterback…then Marion Barber had to go and shit on everything (not that I minded, I’m all for there not being division rivals in the NFC playoffs)
December 14th, 2011 at 11:44 AM
He still wears a Star underneath his Bears helmet.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:49 AM
I thought not trying for a 1st down in the 4th quarter after the field goal was really fucking stupid. If your plan is to run down the clock, then run down the clock effectively.

December 14th, 2011 at 1:17 PM
HOW DID YOU GET YOUR COMMENT TO BLINK?!!!!!!!!!!!
December 14th, 2011 at 3:10 PM
I am sure that Satan likes the extra exposure for the brand NIKE… named after the pagan goddess Nike that Satan himself came up with to dishonor the Name of God. God hates Nike… and I am here to share that with you and yes… even Tim Tebow. Timothy actually means “to honor God”. So Tim… it is time to HONOR GOD!
