Nene Signs With Denver: 5 years, $67 Million. Great. What About Dwight Howard and Chris Paul?
Nene signed a 5-year deal worth $67 million with the Denver Nuggets Tuesday night, essentially closing the door on big-time 2011 free agents, unless you could Jamal Crawford, Sam Dalembert or Rodney Stuckey.
Now, back to 2012′s big two. What’s up with Dwight Howard and Chris Paul?
Dwight Howard: The Lakers and Nets appear to be the remaining best two options. The third? Increasingly, NBA writers feel Howard could stay in Orlando. Maybe acquiring Big Baby Davis is a step in the right direction! The latest option, floated this morning by ESPN’s Marc Stein: Orlando gets Gerald Wallace from Portland, and Brook Lopez of the Nets; the Nets get Howard; the Blazers get draft picks and a 4th team is somehow involved. Even in its fluidity, the trade is more difficult to decipher than the plot of Lost.
I wonder if any crafty GM will start to do what Pat Riley and the Miami Heat did before going after Lebron and Bosh: Purge the roster and go all in for Dwight Howard and Chris Paul or Deron Williams. Since Williams is from Dallas, and Mark Cuban is smart, and Dwight Howard put the Mavericks on his wish-list, I’ll say Dallas pulls off a miracle. Where will he dump Brenda Haywood and the Matrix?
Chris Paul: Speaking of Chris Paul … a few NBA reporters keep floating the idea that CP3 to the Clippers isn’t totally dead yet, but it’s difficult to muster any energy after the two initial deals were shot down. I’m currently suffering from Chris Paul fatigue (symptoms are similar to LeBron fatigue in 2009 and Carmelo Anthony fatigue in 2010, both of which briefly crippled every NBA fan on the planet). Just get the trade over with. Send him anywhere, and that includes Minnesota, because David Kahn doesn’t yet have enough point guards.

So if once is a anomaly, and twice is a coincidence, what do you call three times?
December 14th, 2011 at 10:05 AM
I understand the fatigue: every time ESPN guys (Broussard and Stein) push a story about how talks, new talks, re-ignited talks are taking place, Yahoo! guys like Wojnarowski are saying the deals are dead, talks are done, teams are moving on.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:07 AM
$13M a year for Nene? I guess…
December 14th, 2011 at 10:07 AM
up next on TBL, 3 more posts on Chris Paul…
December 14th, 2011 at 10:07 AM
Where will he dump Brenda Haywood and the Matrix?
obviously, in that scenario, you amnesty Haywood. But Dallas is definitely, definitely getting under the cap next year for a run at Deron Williams. There’s really no way to get all the way under to get two guys with one max guy already. Plus, they’re still obviously trying to compete for a title.
Any package they could offer in trade for Howard would be a gross package full of things Orlando doesn’t want.

I think its funny that Dwight is so irrelevant that even when he demands a trade nobody cares. The world imploded with Lebron, people freaked out over Melo, everyone is up in arms over CP3, but Dwight is being a total dickface and he gets a ‘meh’ response.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:09 AM
The Bulls are trapped in post 2004 Detroit Pistons land. Probably reach the conference finals for the next few years but nothing further unless they add another piece.
Fuck you, Dwight. Curb your ego for a minute to come here and win.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:09 AM
wasn’t Lost just made up as they went along? kinda like all the trade talk, no?
December 14th, 2011 at 10:11 AM
I’m surprised you didn’t link to your prior post about where Nene would be landing.
I liked it because it was rife with errors.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:11 AM
Maybe they should just report trades when they happen. If it’s not approved, then it’s not a trade. It’s good business to report on the proposals as news, though, because it gives you something to talk about for hours instead of stuff that…you know…really happened.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:12 AM
bingo, Miz.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:13 AM
Dwight is better than all of those guys except for Lebron, and even then it’s pretty close.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:14 AM
I think its funny that Dwight is so irrelevant that even when he demands a trade nobody cares.
He needs to be a second banana. Not a first banana. I hope he goes to the Lakers for Gasol, Bynum and some draft choices, and maybe Ebanks, and the Lakers also get Turkoglu.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:17 AM
yeah, but with the trade you already know the outcome no matter how many times they re-write it: VETO
December 14th, 2011 at 10:18 AM
Breesus bitching about ESPN. It’s a Christmas miracle.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:20 AM
And Gaseous complaining about me complaining. How fucking enlightening.

///you forgot your stupid hashmarks
December 14th, 2011 at 10:22 AM
That was in attempt to sign 3 max guys. There will be teams that could sign Paul and Howard just because its working out that way. Unfortunately for those two idiots it is none of the teams they list they want to go to.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:22 AM
Howard will be in Dallas after they package up Jet Terry, Lamar Odom, Delonte West, & Roddy Beaubois.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:22 AM
Nene. Thats a funny name.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:23 AM
His real name is Maybyner, which is awesome. But I like to pronounce it “neen.”
December 14th, 2011 at 10:24 AM
Agreed. This is why my OKC deal needs to happen. Westbrook and Ibaka for Howard and Nelson. You could find a 3rd team to take Perkins, etc…
December 14th, 2011 at 10:24 AM
But is it his first or last name? Or is he like Cher?
December 14th, 2011 at 10:24 AM
why hasn’t Charlie V been amnesty’d yet? that’s the real story of the offseason.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:24 AM
Roddy Beaubois.
remember when that oft injured nothing was an ultra hot commodity? That was a fun year he spent injured.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
No thank you. I think Howard’s expiring deal is worth more than that.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
But is it his first or last name? Or is he like Cher?
more like Rivaldo, or Bebeto, or Kaka. Because he’s Braziliain, you see.
I think his name is Nene Hilario, his actual name.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
I’m sure signing Big Baby and J Richardson has convinced Dwight to stay in Orlando (Legler was implying that Howard would stay in Orlando because he is such a nice guy).
December 14th, 2011 at 10:27 AM
Yeah, “Nene” is his Brazilian soccer handle. His full name is Maybyner Hilario, but I think he actually had it legally changed to Nene.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:28 AM
Thats hilario(us)
December 14th, 2011 at 10:28 AM
I don’t think I could.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:29 AM
He plays basketball AND soccer?
December 14th, 2011 at 10:29 AM
I’ll take Odom.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:29 AM
Maybyner
I looked that up at a baby name website, to ascertain it’s meaning. It means “overvalued.” No wonder he changed it.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:31 AM
He plays basketball AND soccer?
not possible. The skillsets are too different.
/ty duffy
December 14th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
correct.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
James Harden, Serbe Ibaka, Perkins, and Cole Andrich for Dwight.
Even if Dwight won’t resign, you gamble on winning a title this year.
And that’s a good offer for Orlando.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:33 AM
The only Nene I know is that hussy from Real Housewives of Atlanta
December 14th, 2011 at 10:36 AM
I offer Westbrook and Ibaka and hope they don’t ask for Harden as well. If Harden is included, there’s no way Orlando turns that down.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:37 AM
I’m not disagreeing, its just odd how little response there has been. Maybe its as simple as big men are boring, or how we dont spend energy obsessing over whether he’s a closer(he’s not), as is all the rage these days.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:37 AM
Dwight Howard and Kevin Durant?
Scary.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:37 AM
I wouldn’t offer Westbrook. In return, Orlando doesn’t get to dump Jameer or Hedo or any of that other shit on OKC’s doorstep.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:39 AM
Totally disagree with Howard needing to be a second banana. People said the same ish about Dirk for past 13 years or so. Every player needed help to win championship, but if I’m currently picking one player to build my franchise around, I’m picking dwight.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:40 AM
Dallas? cant.stop.laughing TBL….
What is up with jokers from this site keep bringing up OKC??? never gonna happend
He is staying in Orlando…buh bye
December 14th, 2011 at 10:41 AM
You would let him walk for nothing!

Howard will be in Dallas after they package up Jet Terry, Lamar Odom, Delonte West, & Roddy Beaubois.
too funny
December 14th, 2011 at 10:46 AM
Yeah, I could see that. Of course, this would all depend on him agreeing to play in OKC, which he should, but I don’t think he would.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:46 AM
Second only to the Polish Hammer.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:48 AM
Do you really believe this? Why? Not trying to be funny, but genuinely curious as to if you know something we don’t. I follow a lot of NBA people, and the vibe I’m getting is that he is definitely leaving. If not now, at the end of the season. Even after the whole “I maybe definitely probably possibly will be a Orlando Magic for life if changes happen” BS he pulled on everyone few days ago.
December 14th, 2011 at 10:53 AM
@DerKaiser yes i really think he stays in Orlando for the rest of his career
December 14th, 2011 at 10:56 AM
D12 has been w/ the Magic since he was 18….they are all he knows….he vented his frustrations about Otis Smith recently, but that wasnt accurate as he has been consulted on most of the trades the Magic pull off….he wants to win and he wants to be put in the best position to win..Orlando has been a top 5 franchise the past 3-4 years….Orlando is his metropolis

I don’t think we’ll be seeing Johnwah around these parts for much longer.
December 14th, 2011 at 11:25 AM
@johnwah- do you have a chapter dedicated to Antoine Walker?
December 14th, 2011 at 1:38 PM
The league would be much better off without a salary cap. Let all these big teams go for it. Let the Knicks and Lakers have payrolls of 150 mil. The ratings would be thru the roof. The revenue sharing would be higher. Fans happier. Why do we need to keep pretending that Sacramento and Minnesota are good for the NBA?
Knick fans pay thousands for courtside tickets and they have the same payroll as the Wolves. How is that “fair”?
December 14th, 2011 at 2:44 PM
This big tooth stained Russian is coming for the Knicks. I’ve gotta give him credit. Unlike Jets-Giants or Yankees-Mets where both teams have huge fan bases, the Knicks own this town even when they’re 33-49 and the Nets are in the Finals. The only way the Nets ever tap into that is by moving back to NYC and putting better teams on the floor than the Knicks.
Thankfully they’re staying in New Jersey and not trying to add any big name players…

D12 starting the season with the Magic…suck it haters
