My wife’s sister was dating a guy for 6 years before breaking up with him last year. She thought it was liberating, although she’s been slow to get back to dating.

She went to London a few times to meet him, and the last time she went, they got engaged. She tells me this now before she goes off again this weekend to see him.

Okay. I totally see why you are worried. We dated for at least 8 months before I even met them. He wanted to be sure I was the one. Then I met his kids and slowly I formed a relationship with them. When we got engaged we sat the kids down and explained everything to them. I told him to call his ex as I thought of course the mother should know what is going on. I am so sorry you are going through this.
