Robert Griffin III is Your 2011 Heisman Trophy Winner
RG III–Robert Griffin of Baylor University–announced his presence early this year with the riveting performance against TCU as Baylor won 50-48 against the Mountain West champs. He continued to roll throughout the season, at one point throwing more touchdown passes than incompletions.
How good was Griffin III? Baylor won 9 games this year, which is all the more impressive considering where the football program had been for much of their Big XII history. If you want to focus on this year, consider that Baylor allowed more than 35 points per game, and still went 9-3. His performance against Oklahoma was the key moment as his campaign picked up steam again, as he threw for 485 yards on 35 passes in leading Baylor to the 45-38 win.
RG III’s final line for the year: 72.4% completions, 3998 passing yards, 36 touchdowns to 6 interceptions, and an insane 10.8 yards per pass. Oh, and throw in 644 rushing yards and 9 more touchdowns on the ground. He’s also a great student, and a great person, and the most dynamic college player in the country who brought a once-moribund program back to life.
A most deserving winner of the Heisman, and as my little nephew says, “Sic ‘em, Bears”.

He’s also a great person
I thought we had agreed to a moratorium on this stuff. Did that end already?

That was quick, did you have one of these written for all of them or did you just play the odds?
A well deserved award, always glad when the voters realize that there are great players who don’t play in a BCS game…I mean grading against a curve Baylor being 9-3 is more monumental than Alabama or LSU playing for a championship

great speech after he won

Great response by Luck to a rather fucked up, emotion inducing question from that Jim Gray/Roy Firestone wannabe Tom Rinaldi.

i turned the tv off just as rinaldi started to ask his question.
i watched from when they came out of the last commercial and introduced the past winners, to when the wanna-be chris matthews broke down the results on the big ipod touch. maybe a total of 4 minutes.
by the way. the espn 30/30 “the U” is 2 years old. came on after the 99 heisman presentation. fuck time flies

Meh.
How about those Saint Joe’s Hawks?
Nice win against Creighton!

Congrats to RGIII. Still a disgrace that Kellen Moore wasn’t in the top 5.

Missed it. What was the question?

How does that hideous beard make you feel? Worse than losing the Heisman?
December 10th, 2011 at 9:56 PM
I think he came in 8th, behind Barkley and Keenum as well. Who of the top 5 would you have removed?
December 10th, 2011 at 9:56 PM
I wasn’t watching. I see he shaved that beard.

Mathieu. No doubt he is a great player but I hold the one game suspension against him. Can’t get suspended for a drug violation and be rewarded with the top college award, IMO.

Nine wins at Baylor. Well deserved.

what an absolutely crazy day in sports. hell, it’s been a nutty 48 hours … an absurd 6-7 weeks.

I had notes ready on Luck, but I played the chances that it was Griffin based on the ballots I had seen. I think ultimately, in looking back, it was the clear choice even though I think Andrew Luck is a great player. As long as voters weren’t going to hold 9-3 against a player, he was a slam dunk.

Deserving winner.
How about those defense in the Big 12?
