RG III–Robert Griffin of Baylor University–announced his presence early this year with the riveting performance against TCU as Baylor won 50-48 against the Mountain West champs. He continued to roll throughout the season, at one point throwing more touchdown passes than incompletions.

How good was Griffin III? Baylor won 9 games this year, which is all the more impressive considering where the football program had been for much of their Big XII history. If you want to focus on this year, consider that Baylor allowed more than 35 points per game, and still went 9-3. His performance against Oklahoma was the key moment as his campaign picked up steam again, as he threw for 485 yards on 35 passes in leading Baylor to the 45-38 win.

RG III’s final line for the year: 72.4% completions, 3998 passing yards, 36 touchdowns to 6 interceptions, and an insane 10.8 yards per pass. Oh, and throw in 644 rushing yards and 9 more touchdowns on the ground. He’s also a great student, and a great person, and the most dynamic college player in the country who brought a once-moribund program back to life.

A most deserving winner of the Heisman, and as my little nephew says, “Sic ‘em, Bears”.
