I remember the first time I went out for a liquid lunch on a workday.
Thankfully, there was no social media at the time. Actually, there’s a lot of things from my 20′s I can say that about.
December 9th, 2011 at 8:41 AM
if Michael Lewis is writing it, you should be ready it …
Hilarious, and telling. Lewis has a keen eye, and a good grasp of the absurd.

You would not do well in a crises situation.

In all seriousness, He wasn’t skiing alone, he has an AviLung and a beacon so his friends can find him. It’s one of the risks of backcountry skiing, but you do the best you can to prepare ahead of time so you can act accordingly and survive.
December 9th, 2011 at 8:51 AM
i think there’s a pretty broad line between liquid lunches and full blown alcoholism… these staffers are mostly across that line and far away from liquid lunches.
i used to work with a guy who would do liquid lunches by himself, and most times you could smell the booze on him. felt bad for him.

A guy I worked with at my first job out of college used to go to car to sneak a drink. Nobody ever said anything; he was very well liked. It was all very sad.
I haven’t done a liquid lunch in forever….Maybe the first day of the NCAA tournament about 7 or so years ago was the last time.

You could hook your browser into an alternate proxy server (google will help you find one), but let me warn you…..the practice will likely be frowned up if you are caught. I know a woman that almost got fired for accessing another proxy server from work (rather than the proxy server she was supposed to use) just to access facebook.

I’m sure you’ll have that one dropped soon enough
Unfortunately for Roddy, I’m sure the prosecution has better hands than he does and will not drop the suit.
I’m a Falcons fan – Roddy can just go away – he’s a baby. And Julio – worst trade ever.

in what you pictured, did he have to push up his glasses? Because Sparty used to tease him that during his angriest comments, he would always have to stop and push up his glasses.
Do you guys remember Sparty? He used to come here sometimes and chit chat. I guess he fell off the wagon.

Rumors have circulated that at least a few league schools were so angry and disgusted by the Jerry Sandusky sex-abuse scandal that they lobbied to kick Penn State out of the Big Ten altogether, and the Nittany Lions don’t have the kind of history with the league that would make that impossible.
Wow.

I’m about as big a Dave Stern apologist as you can find but he fucked this one up badly.
Also, Cleveland… please do the rest of us a favor and remove Dan Gilbert’s right hand. Have Corbin Bernsen do it.

December 9th, 2011 at 9:27 AM
What’s with the weird post about hugging Pro-Bowl defenders?
December 9th, 2011 at 9:27 AM
I used to like Richard Justice a lot for baseball writing. His twitter account got very political and preachy about Texas state politics. Really detracted from all the baseball stuff.
Kinda curious what Menarky and ms621 think of him.
December 9th, 2011 at 9:27 AM
I’d watch anything with Kate Upton in it,
it seems like that policy is going to be sorely, sorely tested with a 3 Stooges movie.
December 9th, 2011 at 9:28 AM
I think he was leading the charge to kill the CP3 trade. Not exactly sure.

December 9th, 2011 at 9:28 AM

December 9th, 2011 at 9:28 AM
Can we all agree that David Stern is the best commissioner only in his own head?
December 9th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
It has since been revealed that the email was time stamped after the trade had already been blocked.
That said, Gilbert is a clueless moron.
December 9th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
ah…well, it’s not like his organization would be able to be successful anyways. might as well ensure that there’s never any hope of any player worth a shit coming here to play for this cocksucker.
December 9th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
Gingrich has years of being a lobbyist, idiot and the whole child labor thing going against him. Romney’s illustrious career of causing multiple companies to fail at Bain Capital and also being in the 1% won’t help him either. Only Repub. that stands a chance is if Huntsman is somehow nominated, since he’s the most sane.
December 9th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
Gilbert was complaining about lost luxury tax revenue. I think (if all my looking around meshes correctly with all my making stuff up) that if the new luxury tax goes 2.5 to 1 against dollars over, that the 12 million the Lakers are saving in actual salary actually becomes 40 million in luxury tax revenue lost in this (now squashed) deal.
December 9th, 2011 at 9:32 AM
It sucks because he really did a lot for the league when I actually followed basketball. Well, followed MJ and the Bulls. He knew how to project his superstar players and take advantage of the hype they could provide. He vaulted basketball to incredible heights when MLB was striking in 1994-95. As much as I like hockey, he got me to watch the NBA during the 1990s over the NHL despite the Blackhawks having stars like JR, Chelly and the Eagle. A lot of that was Jordan, but the NBA had great narratives when I was a kid. The Knicks and Pistons were villains for me.
Stern marketed the NBA very well during the time I was a kid. He’s destroyed a lot of good will the past couple of years though.
December 9th, 2011 at 9:33 AM

/just sayin’
December 9th, 2011 at 9:33 AM
Kinda curious what Menarky and ms621 think of him.
i was wondering why his links on chron.com were gone. over the past 7-8 years, he has become hard to take seriously. he constantly slobbers on the longhorns, and will largely ignore stories about other texas schools unless it is bad.
when it comes to pro sports, he has become very, very knee jerky. it looked he was constantly auditioning for espn, but i guess not.
December 9th, 2011 at 9:33 AM
He’s a Longhorn but I’m still not a big fan. He does some radio here and it’s kind of amazing how shallow his sports knowledge is.
December 9th, 2011 at 9:35 AM
That movie, but I’m more concerned about all the buffets that are apparently at all these premiers and parties that she attends. I do not like where this is headed, at all.
Her career is projecting out to be like Fernando Valenzuela. Not good for any of us.
December 9th, 2011 at 9:35 AM
This is pretty spot on from what I’ve read too. I didn’t realize the ancillary consequences to the deal. That said, if Gilbert didn’t sound like such a whiny bitch in the e-mail, he may have had some advocates to his position. The whole Washington Generals comment sounded like a 10 year old that just lost a video game and hit reset.

December 9th, 2011 at 9:35 AM
That’s not happening. What makes you think this, the viral countdown thing? Warner Bros. is not going to release a trailer for one of their most anticipated movies of all time before they can pry people’s money out of their hands by attaching it to other in-theater movies.
The prologue will be on MI:4 and the trailer on Sherlock Holmes. It’ll be released online after that.

The only true conservative left is Ron Paul. I know he comes off as crazy when he speaks, but people would take the time to read what the man has to say, they would have a different tune. if you could match up Gingrich’s public speaking with Paul’s brain, the Republican’s might have a chance for a real leader.

Yeah getting of the Federal Reserve is a wonderful idea. While we’re at it let’s go back to the bartering as well. Which bank is going to clear your debit card transaction when you pay for something on vacation? Guess who intermediates that transaction between banks? The Federal Reserve. Sorry. Blame Obama.
I mean I could be wrong. But I’m probably not. I do have ticket to see MI:4 on an eight-story IMAX screen that has the prologue, so I’m not too worried about it either way.

nope, just pull n hope.
my immune system also remains in B.U.D.S. training year around, so there’s not much to the “hope” part of that statement.

I actually like Huntsman, so that means there has to be something wrong with him in regards to the GOP and it’s stance.

He seems like he at least knows something besides his talking points. Also, I like his daughters.

If you are into fiction, I just finished “What The Dead Know” by Laura Lipman. Really good book IMO.

Yes, they lever up a company upon purchasing it, and the PM managers try to squeeze as much profit out of it for themselves using the carried interest as payment for sucking all of the money out of the LBO company. In the mean time, they will either cut the pensions or layoff a lot of the workers in said company. After they’ve drawn as much money out of the company as possible, they’ll either try to IPO it (with huge amounts of debt and then cash out using a one-time tax free capital gain) or send it to bankruptcy. Very few LBOs will actually grow the business and nurture the employee base.

Thank you for featuring Ms. Biel today. Lord almighty, what a woman. I needed that on the Friday of a thoroughly aggravating work week. She is good for whatever ails me.
