Chris Paul is Going to the Lakers For Andrew Bynum Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom [UPDATE]
Chris Paul is now a Laker. That’s what Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports is reporting. He tweeted that the Hornets are telling teams they’ve dealt Paul to the Lakers in exchange for Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom. [UPDATE: Gasol and Odom are being shipped out of town; Bynum will remain a Laker.]
Now all the Lakers need to do is convince the Magic to take Paul Gasol Andrew Bynum and spare parts (a third team might need to get involved?) in exchange for Dwight Howard and the Lakers will have the biggest, baddest trio in the NBA.
And in Paul and Howard, the Lakers will have the league’s best duo – sorry Wade and LeBron and Durant and Westbrook – for the next five years (or as long as CP3′s knees hold up).
[UPDATE II: It sounds like the trade will involved a 3rd team - Houston.
Lakers get Chris Paul
Rockets get Pau Gasol
Hornets get Kevin Martin, Luis Scola]

…and somewhere out there, Carmelo Anthony sheds another tear as LaLa Vasquez emasculates another piece of his soul.

Merry X-mas KC Res Ty Webb
Thanks, but I don’t really want a fat, failed college coach. Do you mind if I regift this?
December 8th, 2011 at 6:08 PM
CORRECTION!
RT @WojYahooNBA: Correction: The proposed deal to the Lakers is Chris Paul for Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom, source says.
That’s a shit trade if true.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:08 PM
This has been up 2 minutes and is already obsolete…
December 8th, 2011 at 6:08 PM
Damn you Fredo!
December 8th, 2011 at 6:09 PM
Odom? O.M.G, he’s gonna have to drag bigfoot out of LA.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:11 PM
Damn you Fredo!
The way this is going, I expect another Woj correction in the next 10 minutes as he says that the deal is Odom and Luke Walton and a Laker Girl to be named later.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:13 PM
KABOOM.
Damn, mike brown is a lucky SOB. how can he fail with CP3 and Kobe?
December 8th, 2011 at 6:13 PM
That’s a lot for Chris Paul, honestly. Gasol by himself seemed like enough.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:13 PM
another premature ejaculation by the EIC!
Lakers will be a knee injury away from the 7th seed if they are only going to bank on CPIII, Kobe, and that big pussy Bynum
December 8th, 2011 at 6:14 PM
Like maybe you could have gotten Howard for those two, instead of Paul.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:15 PM
When did the NBA become a 2 on 2 league? I know you say basketball is your main love. Did you see the Lakers bench last year? Unless they overhaul the entire thing, good luck even making it to the finals on just two reliable players
December 8th, 2011 at 6:15 PM
That’s a lot for Chris Paul, honestly. Gasol by himself seemed like enough.
Hmmm…best PG in league for 2 big men with less than 5 years left in their NBA careers? Seems fair.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:15 PM
Lakers will be a knee injury away from the 7th seed if they are only going to bank on CPIII, Kobe, and that big pussy Bynum
no shit.
Bulls will be able to offer Noah and package for Howard, better then weak ass Bynum.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:16 PM
Tell me that Lakers can’t get Howard for Bynum. Please tell me that’s not possible
December 8th, 2011 at 6:16 PM
If Chris Paul had no knee injury history, then I’d be all for this move. I just have little faith he can stay healthy for an entire season, even if it is shortened.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:16 PM
mmm…best PG in league for 2 big men with less than 5 years left in their NBA careers? Seems fair
When did Jerry West become Hornets GM?.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:17 PM
It has to take a lot more than Bynum to get Howard. Magic will want cash, draft picks, and a couple shitty bench players
December 8th, 2011 at 6:17 PM
Now it feels like Dwight to the Lakers in inevitable. I’ve seen this movie before. We all have.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:18 PM
Magic will want cash, draft picks, and a couple shitty bench players
Good thing that’s all the Lakers will have left. Specially the shitty bench players part.
When did Jerry West become Hornets GM?
Didn’t we all say that West ended up winning that trade by getting the younger Gasol?
December 8th, 2011 at 6:18 PM
If the Lakers somehow end up with Howard as well, I will quit the NBA immediately.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:19 PM
I would take Marc Gasol on the Celtics 15 days a week.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:19 PM
Karma for the ass rape LA gave to Memphis in the Gasol trade.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:21 PM
the Lakers bench makes Miami’s look like an all-star squad.
/pours one out for the Celtics bench
December 8th, 2011 at 6:21 PM
lakers, you can have Big Baby Davis. He’s no use to us anymore.
regards,
Boston
December 8th, 2011 at 6:21 PM
So the Lakers just sacraficed Kobes last good year? I like that. Not looking forward to the future of that though
December 8th, 2011 at 6:21 PM
ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein
Sources tell ESPN that Houston Rockets remain part of Chris Paul talks and are in advanced discussions to receive Pau Gasol from Hornets
This post is getting terrorized.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:23 PM
Marc Stein is now saying that the Rockets are getting Gasol.
Don’t tell me that the Hornets are getting the worst player in this deal for the best??
December 8th, 2011 at 6:23 PM
just have lakers fans look to your team in Phoenix. Hey L.A.! This is how you waste the final years of your star’s career!
December 8th, 2011 at 6:24 PM
a shame the Lakers can’t get Scola in the deal. He’d be going to New Orleans. Scola is a damn good player.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:24 PM
December 8th, 2011 at 6:25 PM
if the Hornets get Scola, that means David West and his repaired knee are on their way out of town? hmmm
December 8th, 2011 at 6:27 PM
Really bad job by Wojnarowski. You can’t tweet this type of big trade in bits and pieces and put forth corrections and new information as they happen. I feel like he was afraid of getting scooped so he just intentionally put out half info as he got them.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:27 PM
I take it KMart’s contract is expiring?
December 8th, 2011 at 6:28 PM
Stupid trade. Overreation to getting bounced last year. When Bynum inevitably gets hurt again, they’ll be a 6 seed.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:28 PM
Tjack? You’re a laker fan? you make me sick
December 8th, 2011 at 6:28 PM
Free Al Farouq-Aminu!

December 8th, 2011 at 6:29 PM
To be honest, after we complete the Dwight Howard trade, It’s hard for me to put together who will fill out the rest of the roster.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:29 PM
The situation is fluid!
December 8th, 2011 at 6:29 PM
bro, you know I’m a Celtics fan.
I’m just approaching my opinions looking through the glasses of each team. I loathe the Lakers with every fiber of my being. I’m just saying that the Lakers would be better off getting Scola as well in the deal. I wouldn’t want them to actually get him though.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:30 PM
Who really cares? It was a matter of minutes between corrections. I only noticed because I’ve been hovering over twitter all day.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:30 PM

if the Hornets get Scola, that means David West and his repaired knee are on their way out of town? hmmm
No doubt. They can turn around and give Jarrett Jack the point and then target a PG next year.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:32 PM
I’ll take an NBA Finals trip over getting swept in the 2nd round any day. Plus, there’s no Chris Bosh turd floating in the Lakers punch-bowl.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:33 PM
hey Danny Ainge, call David West’s agent and offer him a 1 year deal! We need a forward off the bench!
December 8th, 2011 at 6:33 PM
Ballin’
December 8th, 2011 at 6:33 PM
In twitter, info gets passed around in mere seconds. More than the involvement of Houston, it’s the fact that he got Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum aspect of the trade wrong that bothered me. And I think it only happened because he hurried to put the info out there before anyone else and didn’t carefully investigate the matter.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:34 PM
Good point by Hornets blogger extraordinaire, Hornets247: “If reports are true, Hornets are taking on about 30 mil in salary and only giving up CP3? Don’t buy it-if this trade does go through, there are other pieces and picks involved”
December 8th, 2011 at 6:34 PM
Thank Tebow there’s a Steelers game in a couple hours so I can stop thinking about the Lakers getting Chris fucking Paul…
December 8th, 2011 at 6:37 PM
You should all just give up and become Lakers fans.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:37 PM
D-Ho is coming to L.A. as well, Orlando will never get what D-Ho is worth back, but 2nd best big man (when healthy) + cash. picks,
playersscrubs, will ne the best they can get, Howard can force his way to the Lakers by not signing an extension with any teams willing to trade for him.December 8th, 2011 at 6:44 PM
Hmmm…ran the purported trade through RealGM’s trade checker and ESPN’s trade machine and it failed BOTH times.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:44 PM
Unless the Bulls step in and offer Noah, Deng, Asik, and picks for Howard and one of Orlando’s bad contracts. Provided Howard would sign long-term with Chicago, of course.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:46 PM
Seriously, let this go.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:46 PM
Did you try with Emeka’s contract in there?
December 8th, 2011 at 6:48 PM
Kobe’s knees are shot.
I thought their problem was they couldn’t guard the PG position. They still can’t.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:49 PM
Knew Knicks had no shot in Paul. This is like when they signed Walker or som random dude and everyone was like “THAT’S LEBRONS BEST FRIEND! HE’LL GO THERE FOR SURE!”
Good for the Lakers.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:51 PM
Kobe’s knees are shot.
I thought their problem was they couldn’t guard the PG position. They still can’t.
it’ll be ok, just go watch your stillers sandusky the browns, try and forget about basketball for a while…
December 8th, 2011 at 6:51 PM
Who can? And who’s gonna guard the Lakers PG now?
December 8th, 2011 at 6:52 PM
Thank God we now have nine teams to watch:
Lakers
Heat
Bulls
Knicks
Thunder
Celtics
Clippers
Mavs
Magic?
Maybe Wizards and Pacers down the road?
December 8th, 2011 at 6:54 PM
Portland
December 8th, 2011 at 6:55 PM
Not really. Brandon Roy. His knees are shot. Kobe may have more healthy knees than CP3.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:56 PM
The Celtics can. If Rondo doesn’t hang himself between now and Christmas.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:56 PM
Can we get a post about how there is no parity in the NBA? Or is TBL only allowed to make those accusations against MLB?
/narrative
December 8th, 2011 at 6:57 PM
I’m just trolling. Its a big move, unsure if its great or not. Pau and Lamar were kinda sorta HUGE parts of the recent title teams. Thats a lot of size and length to walk out the door, even if they manage to get Dwight.
December 8th, 2011 at 6:58 PM
Can we get a post about how there is no parity in the NBA? Or is TBL only allowed to make those accusations against MLB?
That is coming, right now Duffy is crafting a seething expose on a College Football Playoff
December 8th, 2011 at 6:59 PM
I’m pumped about Battier to the Heat, always loved his game.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:01 PM
Warriors are fun to watch, they just don’t win.
/cries into Chandler Warriors jersey
//blows nose with CP3 Warriros jersey
December 8th, 2011 at 7:04 PM
They really can’t, and that’s not even an issue, because I don’t think Boston will be there in the finals
December 8th, 2011 at 7:06 PM
I feel like Westbrook usually does all right guarding Paul. The Thunder are still better than the Lakers right now, and probably will be even if they get D-Ho.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:07 PM
lol..There isn’t a package the Bulls could offer the Lakers which doesn’t involve Rose that is better than taking Bynum and anyone from the Lakers for Howard.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:07 PM
…wha???
December 8th, 2011 at 7:10 PM
Westbrook would be part of a Howard trade, though, right?
December 8th, 2011 at 7:10 PM
Can you imagine how many more technical fouls Dwight will get if he is in L.A.? He’s a great player but he is the biggest whiny bitch in the league
December 8th, 2011 at 7:11 PM
I meant even if the Lakers end up with D-Ho. That part was just trolling Ballz a bit though.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:12 PM
Noah/Deng/picks > Bynum/his knees/his 12 year old mentality
December 8th, 2011 at 7:12 PM
Agreed, Westbrook has a step on CP3 and Perkins has always controlled D-Ho.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:13 PM
Unless the Lakers get a bench, they’ll be like Miami last year. Rely on 3 guys 99% of the time and have no consistent supporting cast
December 8th, 2011 at 7:13 PM
So ms621 is really Dwight Howard? He hides it well with love for things Houston related.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:14 PM
I see that now.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:14 PM
Funny
Kobe won 3 titles with Shaq
Didn’t win any titles after Shaq left until they traded for Gasol.
No they get Chris Paul
This is why MJ > Kobe
December 8th, 2011 at 7:17 PM
Well done.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:17 PM
Lakers should trade for deSean jacksons girl with the huge tits in the picture at top of this page
December 8th, 2011 at 7:18 PM
The Thunder continue to be the feel good popular pick in NBA circles. They’re offensivley limited. Durant fades to the perimeter during real crunch time. Westbrook is the only player other than maybe Harden willing to go to the rack, but he’s erratic. They have no scoring from the post.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:19 PM
MJ won 6 with Scottie Pippen, which is why he noted in his HOF speech, “in every highlight, you see Scottie Pippen”.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:21 PM
MJ > kobe
don’t even try to dispute it
December 8th, 2011 at 7:23 PM
Every great player needs a great wing man to win multiple championships, just like Wade needs LeBron for quarters 1 through 3
December 8th, 2011 at 7:24 PM
I’m not so much disputing the assertion so much as describing your reasoning behind it as kind of dumb.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:24 PM
Fine. But you will respect the great Scottie Pippen
December 8th, 2011 at 7:26 PM
Unless the Lakers get a bench, they’ll be like Miami last year. Rely on 3 guys 99% of the time and have no consistent supporting cast
Fail. Kobe wins, LeBron losses. Lake Show been doin’ it with an incomplete roster for years on the backs of their superstars. Cue up Randy Newman, again…
December 8th, 2011 at 7:26 PM
except they would have 2 perimeter players who are more adept at playing without the ball, and a much more dominant big man. With that, you can plug in the other players.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:27 PM
Did LA secretly trade GMs with Memphis during the lockout?? Gasol and Odom were the #2 and #3 guys on the team. WTF.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:34 PM
How soon into the season before Kobe punches out the coach?
December 8th, 2011 at 7:36 PM
We need hakeem. Godamn this was stupid by the rockets
December 8th, 2011 at 7:37 PM
Rockets got shafted in this deal, for sure. hornets came out with some good players. Odom, martin, scola, dragic to add to Ariza and Jack..its better than a bunch of teams
December 8th, 2011 at 7:38 PM
God it’s going to be so fun when both Kobe and Paul are down with minor knee issues in late March and ESPN is just going nuts about it.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:39 PM
You baseball fags like to make fun of us soccer fags for being sensitive, but your faggotry is worse. WAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!! TBL MADE FUN OF US!!!!! WAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! IT’S THE MOST FINANCIALLY SECURE SPORT!!!!!!! WAHHHHHHHHH! WAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
Watch what you wanna watch, fags. Why do you need validation from others or feel the need that people need to kiss your faggot ass all the time.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:42 PM
So Houston traded Scola and Martin for Gasol? Not sure I’d do that.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:43 PM
This move is great, but its still pretty risky. Bynum is always injury prone, which makes our front line thin as shit. I’m pretty sure Okafor or Howard are going to be coming to LA soon enough.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:43 PM
Hawks and Rockets can be the co-spokesperson for “Too good for the lottery, too bad to legitimately contend for the title” club.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:44 PM
Hornets actually got a pretty solid lineup out of this trade. Scola, Martin and Odom is pretty sweet.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:46 PM
OK. That formula can be attached to pretty much every superstar player except maybe Duncan and Hakeem.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:47 PM
Jack, martin, scola, okafor and a SF with Odom and Ariza coming off the bench? Good enough to compete for a playoff spot
December 8th, 2011 at 7:50 PM
Hilarious. I have ZERO clue who I’d root for in a Heat/Lakers Finals if Dwight went to L.A. Fuck…
December 8th, 2011 at 7:51 PM
I’m just wondering WTF they’re planning to do at the PF position.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:52 PM
Hell, karma, who will get most minutes at SF?
December 8th, 2011 at 7:55 PM
I don’t think we have a problem at the 3. Barnes is healthy this year, and Artest is still decent. The reason the Lakers won from 2008-2010 was due to their length and size – that is completely gone now.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:57 PM
Also, dude, ‘fag’ is not the preferred nomenclature. Homosexual.
December 8th, 2011 at 7:59 PM
Just ignore him. He’s an imbecile. He already admitted to not liking the NBA. In an NBA post, no less!
December 8th, 2011 at 8:01 PM
That length and size advantage from those years turned into a quickness disadvantage last year. Playing these number of games in the short period of time would have probably deepened that disadvantage.
December 8th, 2011 at 8:16 PM
I’m just wondering who the Lakers are going to use the MLE on.
December 8th, 2011 at 9:21 PM
Thank God we now have nine teams to watch:
Lakers
Heat
Bulls
Knicks
Thunder
Celtics
Clippers
Mavs
Magic?
Maybe Wizards and Pacers down the road?
pretty sure the grizzlies will be more fun to watch and better than about half these teams. don’t forgot Rudy is back to a team that just went 7 games with the thunder.
