Today in Chris Paul Trade Rumors!
Chris Paul might be traded! Soon! The consistent flow of Chris Paul chatter in the last week feels eerily similar to the Carmelo Anthony prattle last year. I hated that.
According to Yahoo: Chris Paul could get traded to the Golden State Warriors or the LA Clippers! That is, assuming the Warriors or Clippers make a move for Paul’s old teammate in New Orleans, Tyson Chandler. Can you imagine the Clippers with Chris Paul, Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin and Tyson Chandler? Um, top three seed in the West, for shizzle.
Chandler is the kicker – if one of those teams signs Chandler, it enhances Paul’s chances of inking a long-term deal. Early indications are that the Clippers – who would trade DeAndre Jordan, Bledsoe, Aminu and a 2012 1st round pick for Paul – are balking at signing Chandler. The Warriors want Chandler, but probably don’t have enough pieces (Stephen Curry and rookie Klay Thompson) to trade for Paul.
The Lakers and Celtics are interested, too, but the offers haven’t blown away New Orleans GM Dell Demps. Houston and Dallas are contenders, too.
According to ESPN (warning, that link is a very clumsy read with one sentence of ESPN reporting contradicting the next sentence of ESPN reporting): The Hornets want Eric Gordon in any trade with the Clippers. The Hornets also have long coveted Curry from the Warriors, but Golden State won’t budge unless CP3 signs a long-term deal. Also, the Lakers supposedly want to trade for both Chris Paul and Dwight Howard.
An addendum to NBA trade scuttlebutt: Hey ESPN, quit stealing people’s scoops and acting like they are your own!

please tell me this is supposed to be tongue in cheek.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:03 PM
Are we playing with two basketballs or one?
December 7th, 2011 at 4:05 PM
I must’ve misread earlier media reports. I thought the freshly-agreed-to CBA was supposed to help teams hold on to their stars and provide competitive balance across the league.
Paul to the Clips could be entertaining, though. Him and Griffin could put on a show nearly every night.
Uh, fo’shizzle, my nizzle.
/is that how it’s done?
December 7th, 2011 at 4:06 PM
I’m not sure an opinion counts as a scoop. There was no unnamed source… just an obvious “hey I think the Lakers would be a good team with Chris Paul and wouldn’t hesitate to give up a lesser player to acquire him.” Since when is that a fucking scoop? Geez the media gets its panties bunched up easily. Heisler is no better than ESPN, reporting an idea, and then treating is as a scoop.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:09 PM
I’m sure you saw both the Spurs getting the top seed in the West and Dallas winning the title next year.
Top 3 would certainly be feasible.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:12 PM
I was more concerned with the use of “for shizzle” than the Clipshow being top 3.

I should add, a lot of people were scoffing at the prediction of Chicago finishing top 3 in the East last year with their additions, referring to them as “Utah East”…
December 7th, 2011 at 4:16 PM
My guess is that TBL believes it’s tongue in cheek, but in reality he just likes saying it. There’s really no reason to ever use that term though, whatever brief window there was where people could say it tongue in cheek has long passed.

Dwight Howard to the Lakers for Bynum and then Chris Paul for Odom and trash similar to the Pau trade. That would be amazing. Eat shit Heat.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:19 PM
Local people are saying that it’s currently Golden State #1, Clippers #2 and Boston a distant #3. Houston, Dallas and the Lakers are only in there to keep the fires stoked. And no, there seems to be no issue regarding Chris signing a long-term option with whatever team lands him.
As for Chris and NYC, it seems like even his camp is aware that there’s no way the Knicks can get him since they have (according to one well-regarded source in the matter) “fuck all that the Hornets would want back.” (No link available).
The only question I have is: does Demps try to get this deal done before the Lakers try and get Dwight Howard and he and Kobe try and turn Chris’ head towards the Purple/Yellow side of L.A.?

i could support this

It allows him to say he was either being sarcastic or serious when he links back to this in 6 month. Sprinkled among our EIC’s many good qualities is an obsessive need to prove whatever point he wants to make, right or wrong, and show us all later how right he was.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:20 PM
Dang, Crosby to sit out 2 games for ‘precautionary’ reasons. Hope it isn’t serious.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:20 PM
There is no way LA gets Howard and Paul without giving up Bynum and Gasol, right?
December 7th, 2011 at 4:21 PM
Three way trades make everybody happy. Except all teams you listed above.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:21 PM
I still think OKC should explore a Westbrook/Ibaka for Nelson/Howard deal if Dwight is willing to sign an extension there.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:21 PM
Dwight Howard to the Lakers for Bynum
Need more than just Bynum
and then Chris Paul for Odom and trash similar to the Pau trade.
The fuck do the Hornets want with Odom and Kong Kardashian? We already had the “good-looking” one around for a hot minute. And Odom + trash don’t compare to Curry.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:21 PM
Best use of that term…

At the 1:55 mark.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:23 PM
Only if they can somehow move Perk. I know it’s a good idea to have a deep frontcourt, but I dont see any way you could play those two guys together, ever. And that is a lot of money to have as a 7th man.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:23 PM
There is no way LA gets Howard and Paul without giving up Bynum and Gasol, right?
They’re not getting both. They can land one right now and then turn on the PR campaign to convince the other to not extend their current deal and sign in the offseason. But in order for that to work, they need to finalize their trade fast and begin turning on the charm.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:23 PM
Plus Odom and whatever first rounders they have in upcoming years (which will undoubtably be towards the end of the first round, so I’m not sure how valuable that is).
December 7th, 2011 at 4:25 PM
Oh boy.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:25 PM
Why wouldnt the Clippers give up Gordon for Paul? Is he really that coveted?
December 7th, 2011 at 4:25 PM
Is Chris Paul’s gear weak though?
December 7th, 2011 at 4:26 PM
The Lakers take what they want.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:26 PM
Welcome back NBA, welcome back YYSA gold.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:26 PM
And magically create cap space!
December 7th, 2011 at 4:26 PM
When can Kevin Love begin to demand a trade to the Lakers?
December 7th, 2011 at 4:26 PM
Perk-Howard would be an offensive void, and two guys who would much prefer to sit down in the center and play zone, than guard man-to-man. Maybe they could trade Perk for a stretch 4 like Jeff Green. The C’s could use a big man, that’s for sure. A guy like Perk would help solidify the defense, and provide some toughness. Man I wish they could get a guy like him.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:27 PM
As a Knicks fan it is extremely frustrating that we traded half of our roster for a one dimensional small forward when we could’ve traded those same guys (maybe even less) for the best point guard in the league right now.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:27 PM
Why wouldnt the Clippers give up Gordon for Paul? Is he really that coveted?
They think the world of him and they would like to have options in case Paul has any more injuries. Plus, since they’re giving up Minnesota’s unprotected first rounder (potential top 5 pick) and Aminu and Bledsoe, they think they’re giving up plenty of cheap future for rich present.
I make the deal. CP3 + Blake will own highlight reels for the next 5 years.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:28 PM
According to local Warrior scribes…GSW would take Paul with Monta involved, even without a long term deal for Paul, and will not include Curry in a deal.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:28 PM
The Suns will never win an NBA Championship.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:29 PM
Gordon is pretty legit. I always wonder how the B1G POY’s never get drafted high.
/then I saw DJ White in person and realized he’s like 6’6″
How good is Bledsoe? Any chance the Clips are better off to sit and let their young guys grow, like OKC?
December 7th, 2011 at 4:29 PM
NBA GM’s have never met an undersized two guard they didn’t want to back a brinks truck up to.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:29 PM
And magically create cap space!
Hey whoever is coming in the offseason comes under a smaller deal, not a max.
/Manchester City and Manchester United both about to crash out of Champions League!
December 7th, 2011 at 4:30 PM
Plus, since they’re giving up Minnesota’s unprotected first rounder (potential top 5 pick) and Aminu and Bledsoe
Seems like too much to me. The knee thing with CP3 leads me to stay away, though he is a brilliant point guard.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:31 PM
The Lakers will get Dwight Howard one way or the other, but they still need a point guard.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:32 PM
That pick will be late first round.
/Goes back to watching Rubio highlights
December 7th, 2011 at 4:32 PM
Does seem like a lot. From the OKC perspective, you’d jump at that so quickly if that included Gordon that there’s no way that’s fair to the Clips.
If you drafted a PF, that is basically your 1,2,3 and 4 spots filled for the next 5 years. (Aminu is probably better as a 6th man, but still)
December 7th, 2011 at 4:33 PM
Agreed and neither of those guys will be Chris Paul or Dwight Howard.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:33 PM
December 7th, 2011 at 4:33 PM
I am 100% in the trade Monta over Curry camp, BUT… if CP3 guarantees signing an extension then I’d be ok parting with Curry.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:33 PM
I think you could send him to Dallas (to replace Chandler) for Marion or say to Sacramento for Jason Thompson/JJ Hickson. I don’t think it’s an impossible deal to pull.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:35 PM
They should trade for Dwight. Having him in the paint will stop a lot of the smaller guards from just burning up Fish.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:35 PM
The draft pick is key but that’s always a bit of a crapshoot in the NBA anyway. Otherwise, you’re pretty much just giving up a bunch of spare parts for a chance to really do something special in the next 2-3 years.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:37 PM
Durant reads the bible too…so Howard to OKC makes the most sense.
/a TEAM you could root for
December 7th, 2011 at 4:38 PM
Warriors are also restricted because they can not trade a 1st round pick until 2016.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:39 PM
Seems like too much to me. The knee thing with CP3 leads me to stay away, though he is a brilliant point guard.
Hence their aversion to partying with Gordon as well. They think he’s going to be a good guard and they don’t want to have no options if CP3 has recurring knee issues.
/MAN UNITED ARE OUT! MAN CITY ARE OUT!
December 7th, 2011 at 4:40 PM
Has to be a better deal for the Hornets out there. Bledsoe looks like a pretty good player, Aminu seems like nothing great and lottery pick is anyone’s guess.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:41 PM
/MAN UNITED ARE OUT! MAN CITY ARE OUT!
How is Man City Out?
December 7th, 2011 at 4:42 PM
It ain’t gay if its in a 4-way.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:42 PM
How is Man City Out?
Neverfuckingmind
December 7th, 2011 at 4:43 PM
Needs more son or toy.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:44 PM
Isn’t Gordon in the last year of his deal though? Would they be able to afford him if they were able to ink Paul?
December 7th, 2011 at 4:52 PM
Kaman’s $12MM deal comes off the books.
December 7th, 2011 at 4:55 PM
Oh yea they got plenty of room. What do you think Gordon garners? He isnt gonna get Rudy Gay money is he?
December 7th, 2011 at 4:57 PM
It would seem Rondo (24 years old with 4 years left on a palatable $11M per season deal) along with F Jeff Green and two #1 picks would be enough for Paul. The Warriors and Clippers offers are that much better?
December 7th, 2011 at 5:00 PM
I guess Gordon would get a deal similar to Monta.
December 7th, 2011 at 5:01 PM
I could see him getting a Kevin Martin-type contract with another really good (and healthy) season.
December 7th, 2011 at 5:02 PM
There you go.
December 7th, 2011 at 5:21 PM
I would prefer this trade.
December 7th, 2011 at 7:11 PM
The Clippers need to change their name and rebrand themselves.
