Jon Heyman is Leaving Sports Illustrated for CBS Sports
Jon Heyman, who has been breaking baseball news at Sports Illustrated for the last five years, is leaving SI for CBS Sports, The Big Lead has learned.
An announcement is set for next week.
A source says the Miami-based Heyman will continue to work for SI at the Winter Meetings this week before moving over CBS Sports. Heyman was at Newsday for 16 years before joining SI in 2006.
If you value breaking news in the internet era – those who don’t will say that five minutes after the news breaks, it’s all over the web; 10 minutes later, ESPN has swallowed the scoop and “confirmed” it – this has been a wildly successful year for CBS Sports, which hired Brett McMurphy to break news in college football, and Jeff Goodman to do the same in college basketball.

Agreed, to an extent. Heyman does break stories, and obviously has good sources…but his actual opinions about the action on-the-field are almost always misguided and wrong.

He always leads me into columns that have “information” that I could have guessed anyway. Oh the Cubs might be looking for a first baseman? Wow.

Heyman is a shill for Scott Boras. Right now, Heyman is ripping Lozano and Pujols and promoting Fielder. Boras is feeding Heyman this garbage and Heyman is acting as Boras’ media cheerleader. Disgraceful. Did you sell out willingly or unwillingly, Heyman?
