That video pretty much sums up NC, guys smoking, fishing with overpriced fishing poles and talking about shooting things.

Stanley likes the white meat.
TOTS!TOTS!TOTS!

Wha? Oh, the humanity! When did this start happening? When will it end?
December 1st, 2011 at 8:24 AM
I cant get to that Scorcese site (at work) can anybody just throw the rankings in here?
December 1st, 2011 at 8:29 AM
Not really.
December 1st, 2011 at 8:29 AM
Top six were:
6. Raging Bull
5. Casino
4. King of Comedy
3. Last Temptation of Christ
2. Goodfellas
1. Taxi Driver

I thought you wanted undeserving teams with underwhelming regular seasons to be able to play themselves in lucrative BCS/playoff games?

Thanks HTwown. That list could get brow beaten. I’ll have to review tonight and see total criteria and any inconsistencies. I think Goodfellas is his definitive work but I think Color of Money and Aviator show him at the peak of his craft. I think Departed could be up there but it’s just a fantastic script by William Monohan that a # of directors could have taken all the way. Part of the definitive Scorcese is the editing, done by Thelma Schoonmaker. I’d like to see him do a live action movie without her and see how it fares. I do not pretend to be an expert on his entire catalog though, although I did see Kundun.
December 1st, 2011 at 8:46 AM
Um….Taxi Driver is great and all, but I wouldn’t go #1 with that one.
My list (top 7, anyway) would be more like this…
7. Gangs of New York
6. The Departed
5. Casino
4. Mean Streets
3. Taxi Driver
2. Raging Bull
1. Goodfellas
December 1st, 2011 at 8:48 AM
Apologies if this was Duckworth’d.
I always like these type of articles. Surprised that Santa Fe has the 2nd strangest people, and that San Juan has the best looking people. Not surprised that NYC is the dirtiest and that Baltimore has the 2nd ugliest people.
December 1st, 2011 at 8:54 AM
Flip one and two, move #6 up to 3, and #5 up to fourth. Otherwise, not a terrible list.
December 1st, 2011 at 8:57 AM

NBA free agents are reportedly “lining up” to play for the Miami Heat.
fuck the heat. and most importantly fuck pat riley. the only player mentioned in that article i’d take is battier.
December 1st, 2011 at 8:59 AM
Grant Hill is better.
December 1st, 2011 at 8:59 AM

6. Hugo (2011) WTF?!?!?!?
/ can’t believe it’s ahead of The Departed F*ck ‘em if they can’t take a joke!
December 1st, 2011 at 9:03 AM
Maybe but Grant Hill has transformed into a very good defender and he has a much better passing game and can pick up some scoring when needed. But he isn’t going to be available unless Nash is traded.
Come on Celtics. You need to win now.

i’d bump up the Departed a few notches, raging bull ahead of goodfellas, and casino out of the top 5.

December 1st, 2011 at 9:17 AM
is it slow in here or is it just me?
December 1st, 2011 at 9:18 AM
My 5 YO son would agree with that ranking.
I have grown to hate that movie because of the many, many times he wanted to watch it.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:18 AM
Yep and it would be nice to see the Suns get one of the draft picks they traded for 3 million dollars back.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:19 AM
first I’ve seen that picture.
Wow. DDL is going to crush that movie.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:19 AM
It only took 3 day for Bruce Boudreau to get another job. Goes from coaching a team with a top heavy offense and bad defense to… Well would you look at that.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:20 AM
it’s not you, it’s craig james.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:20 AM
Basically, Anaheim must feel like their problem is not a system problem. but more of a “the players don’t like the coach” problem.
Because that’s the only reason to hire Boudreau for that team, the way the team looks on paper.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:21 AM
Casino is not one his five best movies.
Day Lewis is the person I point to when famous people bemoan their celebrity. He’s the best actor alive in an industry of entertainment, but lives quietly in Connecticut, doing only a bit of media to support his work.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:21 AM
everyone is still in the Jesse Craig James post. closing in on 3,000 and ms621 has 10k in sight.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:22 AM
That’s the one I didn’t understand…I enjoy Casino, but no way is it better than The Departed.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:24 AM
he’s so serious about it, and so good at it, he gets the respect to leave him alone when preparing for a role.
also, he lives and breathes his character for 12-18 months before shooting begins, not sure what kind of interview or public appearance that would make.
bill the butcher would have done some amazing interviews though.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:24 AM
casino is goodfellas without the awesome story. i liked casino, esp the scene where pesci and his bro get beaten to death, but if we were to compare the two to guns ‘n roses albums, casino would be use your illusion i and ii while goodfellas would be appetite.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:25 AM
Martin Scorceses best movie is Hugo. No one denies this.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:26 AM
i personally think goodfellas and casino, while good, are highly overrated because it deals with organized crime.
i’m biased, though, buddies in college watched scarface and goodfellas maybe 3-4 times a year, so it got old quick.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:27 AM
Finally somebody puts it in words I can understand.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:27 AM
I will. That movie was one of the most self-indulgent films I’ve ever seen.
/thinks Scorsese is overrated for the most part
December 1st, 2011 at 9:28 AM

December 1st, 2011 at 9:30 AM
AMC did their story notes on There Will Be Blood a few nights back. Good stuff.
Still can’t believe that the guy that played Daniel Plainview is the same guy from Last of the Mohicans.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:30 AM
Honestly, I probably like both of those films equally.
This is going to sound somewhat irrational, but I always felt like Casino suffered because, when it came out, it felt like a “Goodfellas” knockoff. It came out 5 years after Goodfellas, but by the time “Casino” came out, Goodfellas was a video rental staple and an eminently quotable movie already.
When not viewed in the context of “Goodfellas”, “Casino” stands up pretty well on it’s own.
I really like “The Departed” but not everything Nicholson did in that film was “ZOMG!11! Wot a legend!”. I mean, some of it (the strap on in the theatre thing…the cocaine throwing thing with the hookers) was just silly and unnecessary.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:30 AM
Vastly underrated when people ask to rate leading men in the movie industry today. Enjoy all his movies.
/ I drink your milkshake! I drink it up!
December 1st, 2011 at 9:31 AM
damn, i wish i had seen that. been thinking about watching that again.
i saw it in the theatre with my wife and her parents, he mom wouldn’t shut up in the first 20 minutes when there wasn’t any dialogue.

There’s a movie I think is wildly overrated. I couldn’t understand Pacino for the first 45 minutes of that movie.

i can’t argue that it wasn’t his best performance, but it was a great ensemble cast that worked really well with eachother.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:34 AM
That’s just dumb. Top 3 Pixar movies are: Toy Story (any of the three), Incredibles and Up in any order you want.
Oh and I’ll admit to being one of the people who watched Scarface all the time in college along with the Godfather movies, Lord of the Rings and Goodfellas.

Daniel Day-Lewis is basically on a whole ‘nother level. After him is DiCaprio.
I am pumped about the Abraham Lincoln movie Lincoln because I can’t imagine a better choice to play the part than Day-Lewis and because Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Team of Rivals, which the movie is partly based on, is one of the best historical books I’ve read. Highly, highly recommend it.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:34 AM
Thx Geoffreyvs. I also fat fingered the final score.
So tired of Seth/Vitale crying on selection Sunday
December 1st, 2011 at 9:35 AM
For us it was Big Lebowski and then everything else. Had a buddy that liked Top Gun just a little too much, too.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:35 AM
Yeah. As good as that movie was, I thought Nicholson blew an opportunity by having to have his “Jack” moments rather than actually acting and serving the story.

Substitute “Lord of the Rings” with “Star Wars” trilogy and yeah…..guilty.
Especially the “Godfather” series. I went years not wanting to see the Godfather movies because I beat them to death so bad in College. I had a nice reunion with them, though, when the Bluerays came out.

December 1st, 2011 at 9:43 AM
Jack was the weakest performance of the cast, you can’t deny it. Damon, Wahlberg, Leo, Baldwin, Sheen were all much much better.
December 1st, 2011 at 9:43 AM
Basically, Anaheim must feel like their problem is not a system problem. but more of a “the players don’t like the coach” problem.
Which is especially dumb considering they gave Carlyle a 3 year extension this past summer. If he’s not the right coach now, he wasn’t the right coach 3 months ago.

The return on Ryan would be very high, but he is the one they have the most control over. Perry and Getzlaf are UFA after next season. One of them is going to walk.

Probably the way I would go. Ducks have 9 guys on their roster scheduled to be UFA this coming summer, they’ll be able to re-shape the team fairly quickly.

I know I am in the minority but Gangs of New York is one of my favorite movies. Loved the performances, of course DDL but also Broadbent as Boss Tweed.

Cleet, I’m right there with ya, Gangs of New York is great. Love that movie.

I think he has a good one coming out, at least one in which he is not mailing it in, Being Flynn.

I’ve only seen the first two and they were awful. Can’t imagine what an abortion the 3rd one is. I find very little of Ben Stiller’s work funny.
The first one was somewhat funny IMO… only because meeting the parents was something we could all relate to…. not really because of stiller though.

De Niro is slowly turning into Gene Hackman with all the crappy movies he’s in. We’ll know it for sure when De Niro has his own Welcome to Mooseport.

With ya here. But I like to compare that movie to The Dark Knight. One amazing performance and an alright movie around it.

He can play two parts… oblivious, over the top idiot, or down on his luck hopeless romantic. That’s about it.
I recently saw Greenberg… where he tried to be serious… didn’t really work. Was pretty bad.

DDD performance was amazing… but I didn’t really enjoy the movie. Too slow. Enjoyed the radiohead score though.

yeah, but Dark Knight was the better heist film.

lol…this joke will never get old.

That couldn’t have been the unedited version could it? Plus I think AMC shows commercials also IIRC. Intolerable.

That video pretty much sums up NC, guys smoking, fishing with overpriced fishing poles and talking about shooting things.
Except that they are from Boston.
