i don’t want to take anything away from a legit victim or deter them from coming forward, but false accusations of such nature should receive equal punishment associated with the crime being falsely accused.

This I wholeheartedly agree with. Once someone is accused of something, that perception is almost impossible to shake if it turns out it was a false accusation and rarely does anything happen to the false accuser.
