Dennis Erickson to Penn State!

I see he is still just as fragile as he was a rookie. Lineman simply have to land on him.

Tyler Palko, great googly moogly.

Gotta love the Senate! Where’s the media on this one?

Memphis football coach Larry Porter was fired Sunday. Athletic director RC Johnson is on his way out, as welll. [Commercial Appeal]
Heck yeah! This takes some of the sting out of yet another Chargers loss.
Unfortunately, my Tigers are gonna hire some other “goober” AD, who in turn will hire another unprepared coach.
Two fallacies in sports that chap my butt:
a. Hiring a college coach who was a “great recruiter” at a great program, who now is at a not-so-great program. SEC blue-chippers will never wanna go to Memphis when they can go to an SEC school.
b. Pro teams not in LA/Miami/NYC/Atlanta who brag about “cap space”, while not realizing no worthwhile FA wants to live in a town not named LA/Miami/NYC/Atlanta.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:43 AM
We’ll see how successful Dale Hunter is with the Caps when he can’t recruit the best players by buying their families a house.

November 28th, 2011 at 8:46 AM
ATLANTA. You just listed Atlanta. I don’t know if you noticed but you listed Atlanta there. Not sure Atlanta should be in that list. Joe Johnson thinks thats bullshit.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:48 AM
Because for some games, the Steelers offense forgets how to play in the red zone, and like to go backwards instead. The whole offense was out of sync the whole night which is a little understandable. I don’t care how shitty the Chiefs are, playing in Arrowhead for a primetime game is not easy. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be as easy like everyone predicted.

Well, the AFC is America’s Fraudy Conference.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:49 AM
YYSA, I know the teams aren’t always first-rate. I keep hearing that players (looking at you, NBPA) love the nightlife and the sexy soul sistas in Atlanta. Am I off-base on that?
Patrick Ewing, in the last millenium, loved to party there, for example…
November 28th, 2011 at 8:50 AM

somehow bob costas pulled off a nice mashup of angry, old white man and dennis miller when skewering stevie johnson’s plaxico celebrations and dropped passes.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:51 AM
im just flabbergasted at ND fan, TBL saying urban makes him like michigan more…i mean, come the fuck on. how clueless can you get?
November 28th, 2011 at 8:51 AM
Atlanta has been mismanaged like crazy for years and years. Have they ever 1) had cap space and 2) been turned down by a free agent?
The fact that they kept Joe Johnson actually puts them in a good spot relative to the Clevelands and Milwaukees of the NBA.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:52 AM
Hey Vladdy, this line made me laugh:
The newest addition to this growing problem is everyone’s favorite rent-a-cup Hawks
November 28th, 2011 at 8:52 AM
My Chiefs pick was much more about the Steelers offense being surprisingly bad at finishing than the Chiefs being any good. Plus when they are the #1 seed and everyone picks them in the playoffs, I won’t be forgetting they got punked by their archrivals twice.

When will some sleazy TV producer come up with the idea of a “reality” show regarding “Wal-Mart’s Greatest Hits”. Think of it – crime, greed, trashy chicks. I usually avoid reality TV, but I might watch this.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:55 AM
Costas IS an angry old man, despite the miracle of caked on TV makeup and hair coloring.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:56 AM
Stevie Johnson was so impressive for so much of the game yesterday. Obviously the Bills had spent some time working on techniques to confuse Revis right off the line.
And to be so impressive and fail so impressively… so very Buffalo of him.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:56 AM
off base. There is just nothing to back that up really. In terms of the NBA the only place that really attracts big time free agents is LA. Miami is more recent and doesn’t really have much to back it up other then the big 3. New York got free agents recently because teams didn’t want to sign their overrated ‘superstars’ and New York was one of the few teams that had the cap space. So if you are just talking NBA I would say LA is the only one that can really boast that claim and it saddens me deeply and I will cry into my Oliver Miller jersey one more time when Dwight Howard signs there.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:57 AM
I didn’t actually see any of it, since I was out of town, and then had to go repair some grade around the house that a groundhog destroyed (removing bushes and shit… PITA). I heard it was ugly.
Not nearly as ugly as Pitt’s two minute drill against WVU. They got 4th and 1 by an inch, and then proceeded to go backwards 20 yards. My wife turned to me and asked if their regular QB was hurt. I won’t miss the Tino Sunseri era.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:58 AM
Fuck Bob Costas. But imagine how much worse it will be when Mike Greenberg becomes the new indignant Moral Fiber of American sports.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:58 AM
Nice avatar. Where can I pick up a Norv Turner: -200 ticket for first coach fired this year?
November 28th, 2011 at 8:59 AM
This phrase feels redundant to me, as Mushnick is always angry at something.
November 28th, 2011 at 8:59 AM
turner over sparano?
November 28th, 2011 at 8:59 AM
i didn’t think what Steve Johnson did was that bad now that it is explained. I originally thought that he was mocking a crashing airplane. In New York City
November 28th, 2011 at 8:59 AM
oh yeah, he definitely is an old man, but you normally don’t see the angry old man mix in obscure references to people who have been dead for decades to a fan base that likely never heard of them as well as Costas did.
i do think it’s hilarious when he wears that little boy cap that tony romo wears.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:00 AM
Jack Del Rio wants to say hello. I can’t believe he has been the jags coach since 2003.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:01 AM
People who whined about Stevie Johnson yesterday need to be liquidated
November 28th, 2011 at 9:03 AM
YYSA, I was reminiscing about how teams like the Grizzlies and Nuggets would brag about having cap space, then getting rejected by the top tier free agents. Also remembered reading SLAM once in a while back when, and seeing how different players seemed to like the Atlanta nightlife & the ability to shop for stylish clothes that fit big and tall guys. Touche to you for stressing fact.
WWoS, I am laughing to keep from crying about ol’ Norv. Yesterday’s game stunk on ice.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:03 AM
And to be so impressive and fail so impressively… so very Buffalo of him.
Chan Gailey/Pickspatrick should also be mocked for their time management skills, and 20 yard sideways runs to get out of bounds for a 2 yard gain.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:03 AM
Miami at least is trying, and the Jags don’t have a QB. The Chargers are just an inexcusable mess. Funny part is, they may (?) have a shot at the division.
I’m still pissed that the Jets lucked out yesterday. Half because I wanted them to be eliminated, and half because Sanchez not throwing a late pick-six somehow proves all the haters wrong. /TBL

Stevie Johnson made fun of Plax shooting himself. That is so funny.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:05 AM
I think the highlight for yesterday was Collingsworth openly gasping as soon as Palko released multiple throws downfield. It made the 2 to 3 seconds the ball was airborne even more exciting to see just how horrific the throw was.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:06 AM
Guess who benefited from owners’ concessions in the NBA lockout? The Heat.
i read that yesterday. i had been hoping the heat would never get another guy over the league minimum salary.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:06 AM
As an ND fan, there’s nothing that could make me like Michigan. Even the slightest bit.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:07 AM
an Oliver Miller jersey on anyone other than Oliver Miller is like an adult onesie.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:07 AM
Even better. We got em when were 40!
November 28th, 2011 at 9:08 AM
Yep. I watched Dan Orlovsky sprinting around out of bounds behind the endzone escaping a pass rush live, but I still think Palko might be the worst QB I can remember who was actually the “starter”.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:09 AM
I think the highlight for yesterday was Collinsworth openly gasping as soon as Palko released multiple throws downfield. It made the 2 to 3 seconds the ball was airborne even more exciting to see just how horrific the throw was.
i owe max hall and chris weinke apologies. Palko couldnt be worse if he was created in a lab solely for the purpose of being an awful QB

November 28th, 2011 at 9:09 AM
Still think Plaxico should have responded by posting an “I PRAISE YOU 24/7…” tweet after the game, especially after that embarrassing drop on the final drive. No such luck.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:09 AM
That game validated my decision to watch “Boardwalk Empire” when it was actually airing for the first time rather than using “On Demand” to watch it on Monday.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:09 AM
Laughed out loud at this from PK
November 28th, 2011 at 9:11 AM
The Frum piece was fantastic. And the fact that people are more upset about Stevie Johnson’s hilarious TD celebration than Dwayne Bowe’s pathetic non-effort on the game-sealing pick says something about how we view wide receivers in the NFL.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:11 AM

I don’t understand how they haven’t at least given SC’s boy, Stanzi a chance. Don’t give me that shit about how you are fighting for a playoff spot either.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:12 AM
and TJ Yates>>> Leinart
November 28th, 2011 at 9:13 AM
They say that the pros are about the names on the back of the jerseys, and college is about the names on the front, and they’re right. The Chargers are nothing more than a reflection of the tendency of experts and fans to view pro teams like college teams. The Charger have replaced their hall of fame running back with an inconsistent and injury prone running back. Their hall of fame tight end is running on fumes. Their best receiver doesn’t seem to have recovered mentally from his holdout last year so now their QB can’t throw jump balls. They’ve lost their best defensive players from their hey day. They’re a shadow of what they were.

November 28th, 2011 at 9:14 AM
Oh, and Sanchez was awful again yesterday. I don’t care that he threw four short TD passes that any other coach would have run in. Under 50 percent completion percentage, horrible decision making, endless bailouts by his wide receivers.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:14 AM

They should just start Ben Tate at QB and let him and Foster run all over the place. It’s like playing Tecmo Super Bowl with the Raiders at this point. Schroeder was horrid, so you just ran with Jackson and Allen every play.

November 28th, 2011 at 9:16 AM
While clearly not on LT’s level, but the Matthews/Tolbert duo is one of the best tandems in the league.
I think the main reason the Chargers suck is Rivers having an awful year, either through a hidden injury or him plain sucking.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:16 AM
Is there video of this?
November 28th, 2011 at 9:17 AM
I lost count of the # of times Rich Gannon said something to the effect of “Mark Sanchez cannot make that throw” or “Sanchez has got to make better decisions”.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:18 AM

November 28th, 2011 at 9:18 AM
And their secondary can’t go 3 plays without a flag.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:19 AM
Thats nice but it really won’t affect much. The Heat have two of the top 5 talents in the league and should compete for a championship the next 5 years regardless of being able to pay some vet. Having said that they will now sign Grant Hill and be unstoppable.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:19 AM
Never good to lose 50-0 to the team you were hired to beat. UCLA is garbage.
USC meanwhile, is one of the best 10 teams in the country easy.

it’s a good thing the Jets will play the same quality of teams down the stretch, not sure how their season turns out if they actually have to play a team that can form some sort of structured offensive or defensive attack.

I can make an argument for Scategories being the best (well, at least my favorite) game. You have to think quickly under pressure and be creative. Taboo, Monopoly (as long as you can trust the banker) and Life are a lot of fun too.

I saw the Descendants this weekend. It was really good. My mom and I liked it. The old man and my sister in-law didn’t. I thought it was the perfect mix of funny, sad and clever. Also, Clooney’s oldest daughter in it is hot. Shailene Woodley was the actress’ name. Roundup girl possibilities.
Also saw previews for Shame, The Other F Word and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. All of them looked good.

November 28th, 2011 at 9:36 AM
Absolutely. I go to P & L a lot. Is the concert at Sprint Center? Who are you going to see and where are you staying?
Not stalking…just trying to get all the facts before giving you a few recommendations.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:36 AM
Watched my daughter drink margaritas this weekend…lol
Matt-, my most emphatic no. hahahahaha
House party for Thanksgiving. Her boyfriend’s parents hosted, and the hang was great. I don’t drink, and my daughter was respectful in my presence.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:36 AM
You’re the only person I know that follows the provided Catch Phrase rules. We don’t even use the buzzer anymore.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
Thanks to Sporcle, I am now a black belt in Trivial Pursuit
November 28th, 2011 at 9:38 AM
I was never good at Risk. Stratego was my war game. JCK mentioned Life and I always like that one. Clue was fun too.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:38 AM
No, Sunshine….I meant late elementary school, junior high. Before that, I was a big Candyland fan moreso than Chutes and Ladders or Sorry.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:38 AM
This. If you are playing with females though you really have to play a themed version of the game.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:38 AM
We’re a big fan of Beyond Balderdash. Though you do have to have the right mix of people for that game.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:39 AM
Boggle. No one here will ever beat me.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:39 AM
Candy Land on a bitch.
Plaxico is God. That one handed catch kept the season alive.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
Ill take Axis and Allies for the win Alex..
November 28th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
Candyland! Fuck yes! Loved that game.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
Man, totally forgot that one. Love Clue.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
What buzzer? We just had this. Like I said very easy set up.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
Weapons and Warriors was the shit.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
Oooo. Sorry was the shit. Such a soul crushing game.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:40 AM
Ugh, Candy Land is sooooooooooo boring! At least with Life you have a fun spinny thing and you get to read stuff on each turn.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:41 AM
jck, going to see John Prine at the Midland on Friday. not sure of the name of the place we are staying but it’s right down there somewhere, like a couple blocks away maybe?
November 28th, 2011 at 9:41 AM
Not that they were board games, but I also had the “at home” versions of Double Dare and American Gladiators. Beating the shit out of each other with inflatable joust sticks was always fun.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:42 AM
I dominate the 90′s version of Trivial Pursuit.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:43 AM
Monopoly and Chess
November 28th, 2011 at 9:43 AM
(or Stratego back in the day)
such an awesome game. They had to automate it to quit liars from cheating though.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:43 AM
Does table top hockey qualify as a board game?
November 28th, 2011 at 9:43 AM
there’s a game called phase 10 that uses uno cards that is pretty fun, good for drinking group play, which is normally what I look for in a game.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:44 AM
I had the Double Dare game too. Was only like 8 years old though. Somehow, I don’t think we ever played properly. Once Jeopardy came out for NES, it was hard to go back to board games.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:44 AM
Bubble Hockey. USA VS SOVIETS with National Anthem.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:45 AM
Wait a minute. Who am I kidding? Girl Talk of gtfo.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:46 AM
Yeeeaaaah that’s the shit. You know a game means business when it comes in a gigantic box too.
My older sister used to rig the deck in Uno. Of course she only wanted to play one game and then quit.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:46 AM
I dunno, I saw a few UNC games, and TJ Yates looked like Curtis Painter at Purdue to me.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:47 AM
Anyone ever play Payday?
November 28th, 2011 at 9:47 AM
pretty sure Jersey just won that one.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
I remember being overwhelmed with Shark Attack commercials way back when. Every kid’s reaction was “Don’t they know we all have a SNES or a Genesis?”
November 28th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
Was there a discussion why OSU spiked the ball on 3rd down Saturday? I was so hoping for a soul crushing defeat for Michigan after those idiotic penalties on their last drive. Would have been classic.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
I am the Tyler Palko of table top hockey.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
holy flashback. I loved that game, hadn’t seen it in years.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:48 AM
Whoa. I just had flashbacks.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:49 AM
The Midland is a sweet place to see a show. Never been disappointed with a concert there.
As far as the bars….it kind of depends on what you are looking for. P & L really does have something for everyone.
Shark Bar plays only 80′s/90′s music….beached theme…bartenders in bikini tops as such…dance floor, all that. Lots of attractive women typically.
McFaddens is a sports bar, but will have a DJ after about 10:00 or so. It’s a split level, so they have plenty of room…more of a party atmosphere than a typical sports bar. If you want just a regular sports bar, go to Johnny’s Tavern. Ton of TV’s.
PBR is a country bar…loads of hotties, mechanical bull, all that. I would avoid Tengo Sed Cantina, Mosaic, and Angels Rock Bar. They are typically really crowded or pretentious (Mosiac). If you are looking for a great beer selection, go to The Flying Saucer. Probably the best beer selection in town.
More info than you needed probably, but hope that helps.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:49 AM
some of yall played with this

Stupid moderation.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:52 AM
What about Mall Madness?
November 28th, 2011 at 9:52 AM
We had that one but didn’t play it too often. Clue, Stratego and Risk were staples though.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:53 AM
Wow. I am literally bowing down to your greatness. Great call.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Ooo, ooo… Mystery Date!
November 28th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
My folks stayed 2 days too long.
Watching sports with my father is such a beating. Everybody sucks (except Staubach, who is a god), black guys will never be able to play QB because “it isn’t in their genes,” and none of the games on TV that day will be any good because “those teams haven’t been good for 20 years, why would I want to watch that?”
FUCK
November 28th, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Today being called Cyber Monday doesn’t exactly inspire thoughts of online shopping.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:55 AM
Had this game…it even had you read a card before the game started that acted like a pre-match interview.

Mall Madness~!!
November 28th, 2011 at 9:56 AM
I think most of us are kind in the age group where Nintendo/Sega/Computer games were coming out in full force as we were growing up too.
I probably played The Oregon Trail and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego just as much as some of these board games.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:57 AM
/pours one out for Macho Man
//and Miss Elizabeth
November 28th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
Why did you invite my dad to your house?
/no joke, he says the exact same shit
//stopped watching Vikings games with him 8 years ago
Oh shit, I remember finding this in the Toys R Us clearance bin and flipping the fuck out. Totally forgot about this.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:58 AM
+1565 pounds of meat but you can only carry 100
November 28th, 2011 at 9:59 AM
I blame Bauserman. I don’t know. Allegedly the coaches wanted to spike on 2nd down. It was retarded and the fact that Braxton wasn’t even thinking about running for first downs on that drive makes me sad.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:59 AM
Anyone remember Scotland Yard?
November 28th, 2011 at 10:00 AM
I had the NBA one too. It came with a suction cup basketball hoop and foam ball that you actually had to attach to a window and shoot free throws with.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:00 AM
Video games were the entertainment of my youth, adolescence, teenage years, college years and now into my adult life. I’ve slowed in the past few years but I don’t think I’ll ever stop playing video games.
Board games are really a family thing. The only video game my parents ever played was Guitar Hero.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:03 AM
I used to play my dad in Madden ’94 for Sega Genesis. We had a couple ground rules:
1. No one used the Cowboys
2. No one used the All-Madden team
November 28th, 2011 at 10:03 AM
This. My buddies and I play in a Tecmo Super Bowl league that starts in January each year. There are 13 of us. The playoffs consist of us smoking meat, getting drunk, and a championship t-shirt. I wish I was making this up.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:03 AM
Completely agree with this.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:04 AM

November 28th, 2011 at 10:05 AM
Like watching football with my father-in-law:
-The refs control the games and choose which team wins (only said when the calls go against the team he wants to win).
-The Giants have the hardest schedule in the league for the past 5 years (finally true this year, but he doesn’t admit that the beginning of their schedule was cake).
November 28th, 2011 at 10:06 AM
*goes to attic to get Intellivison*
November 28th, 2011 at 10:07 AM
appreciate the info jck, I’ll be sure to put it to use. I’m pumped about that show, never been to the Midland. I’m supposed to have awesome seats too.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:08 AM
Seems like a great guy.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:09 AM
Is your dad actually the ghost of Jimmy the Greek?
November 28th, 2011 at 10:09 AM
No problem. Let me know how it goes.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:09 AM
downloaded it for the iphone over the weekend. my son chet got swooped up by a hawk.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:10 AM
jck or KC, I’ll be in kansas city this friday for a concert down in the power and light district, need some recommendations on somewhere cool for drinks, you guys ever go to that area?
Fucking cool. Isbell is opening for him.
There are plenty of bars in that area. The Flying Saucer has like 1192 beers. There is a Maker’s Mark steak joint if you want to class it up a bit.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:11 AM
I figure I’ll probably end up at Flying Saucer, they have one in L. Rock that frequent when I go down there.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:11 AM
See y’all when I land. Taking off.

Frum is right. Anyone thinking rationally about the economy cannot vote Republican.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:24 AM
Must’ve played 20 games of Trouble with my girls over the weekend, man that lously little game can bring out the mean streak in a couple 8 year olds.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:25 AM
whoa, may have to go to that Makers steak place, what’s the name?
I’ve never heard Isbell, any good? usually his openers are pretty good.
