The Game: Michigan vs. Ohio State
Michigan vs. Ohio State. Bo vs. Woody. Maize and Blue, Scarlet and Grey and the few remaining leaves turned a robust shade of orange. It’s a November tradition, the one worthy of being called “The Game.” The spectacle is great, the context is secondary and the result decides the season for both schools. This pervasive passion only exists in college football. You’d have to be a truly sour individual to soil it.
It has been a topsy-turvy 12 months for both schools and, with two new coaches at the helm, they enter with opposite roles to the ones they had the year before. The Wolverines are 7.5 point favorites with a BCS bid at stake. They’ve found their swagger. They have even embraced an iconic fashion statement. It’s the Buckeyes who are coming off a deflating season, residing under an NCAA cloud, have a fluid coaching situation and are reliant on an inexperienced quarterback. Even the counter has come down.
Motivation: Michigan wants to end the dry spell, protect the house and excise some demons for those who stayed. Ohio State wants to beat Michigan and to go to a bowl game (if permitted) that isn’t sponsored by a cheap, Michigan-based pizza chain.
Elephant: Urban Meyer has accepted the Ohio State coaching job and the announcement will be made shortly after the game, unless Meyer opted out of calling a national television date for some family time and leftover inhalation and ESPN was totally cool with it.
When Michigan Has The Ball: Fitzgerald Toussaint has emerged, but Michigan still needs good Denard to break down a solid defense. Michigan has an array of weapons. A receiver or a running lane will almost always be open. Denard Robinson’s decision-making and execution will be critical. The Buckeyes need to control the line of scrimmage and pressure him into mistakes. Ohio State needs turnovers that score or lead to points. They must limit Michigan’s big plays in the passing game and force them to methodically dip and dunk down the field.
When Ohio State Has The Ball: The Buckeyes can’t pass effectively or efficiently. They need to get the downhill running game going with Boom Herron. Since he has returned from suspension, OSU has won every game he has hit the century mark and lost every game he has not. Greg Mattison’s front will be aggressive and disciplined, as they were against Illinois and Nebrasksa. OSU should be even more susceptible, since they don’t run the option and Braxton Miller is a freshman. If they get an opportunity to hit Michigan over the top, they must take it. Ohio State is 115th in the country in sacks allowed with 36. Whether that’s the offensive line or the quarterback, that could be troublesome against Michigan.
Prediction: Michigan has been at its best when doubted. The trouble is no one doubts them heading into this weekend. The Wolverines, for the first time in recent memory, have the better, more seasoned team in this matchup. They can’t believe that heading in, however, as Ohio State always plays with a chip and this year, ruining Michigan’s season is all they have left to play for. Michigan wins, but by a closer margin than expected, UM 27-OSU 20.

Denard has SEC speed
November 26th, 2011 at 12:28 PM
Nice tackle Sabino…
November 26th, 2011 at 12:31 PM
This OSU-UM game has the least NFL-ready talent in ages. Some of these guys are not ready.
November 26th, 2011 at 12:32 PM
i can’t be the only one watching this thrilling JMU-Eastern Kentucky playoff game, right?
Dukes get a huge INT in the end zone – after giving up a 75-yard punt return – and are now driving late in the first. game on ESPNU
November 26th, 2011 at 12:34 PM
Who is the top team in the Big 10? Just seems like a bunch of average teams who beat each other.
November 26th, 2011 at 12:37 PM
tell me again what gardner does besides give denard a blow?
November 26th, 2011 at 12:40 PM
Worst OSU special teams in over a decade.
November 26th, 2011 at 12:43 PM
And the Dukes are on the board, 7-0.
Huge turnaround:
EKU with a 75-yard punt return, but on the next play gets picked in the end. Then a monster 80-yard drive by the Dukes including 3 key 3rd down conversions.
November 26th, 2011 at 12:43 PM

November 26th, 2011 at 12:45 PM
Bunch of home cookin’ in Ann Arbor already. I guess it’s to be expected though.
November 26th, 2011 at 12:45 PM
Just fire this coaching staff now. Why wait. Drive them just past the state line. Stop the bus. Make them get off and walk back home.
November 26th, 2011 at 12:47 PM
COME ON MICHIGAN!!!!
/hate myself, don’t care
November 26th, 2011 at 12:48 PM
what was your favorite moment from the Fickell Era?
you scamp….no saying ‘the end’
November 26th, 2011 at 12:56 PM
I just went back and checked Ty Duffy’s Friday post, and this game doesn’t matter. It’s utterly meaningless.
November 26th, 2011 at 12:58 PM
Rumblings that OSU is going to announce Urban tonight so he can begin recruiting Sunday. Do it.
November 26th, 2011 at 1:07 PM
big blue better figure that secondary issue out
November 26th, 2011 at 1:07 PM

November 26th, 2011 at 1:13 PM
This game sucks.
November 26th, 2011 at 1:16 PM
aha, i see now what gardner could be good for….holding onto the ball
November 26th, 2011 at 1:19 PM
Urban needs to call up Dorial Green-Beckham, Tommy Schutt, Avery Young, Noah Spench, Kyle Kalis and Noor Davis ASAP. Oh and Braxton is amazing with the ball.

November 26th, 2011 at 1:36 PM
Miller really can’t throw.
November 26th, 2011 at 1:36 PM
jim, in comparison to denard, or in general?
November 26th, 2011 at 1:39 PM
Yes he can. Wait till next year and you’ll see. Just needs to work on his footwork and touch.
November 26th, 2011 at 1:47 PM
It just seemed that he misses a lot of wide open receivers. But that pass on the post pass was good.
November 26th, 2011 at 2:45 PM
Fuck Jim Bollman.
November 26th, 2011 at 2:48 PM
This is the most interesting UM-OSU game in a few years
November 26th, 2011 at 2:51 PM
I hate both teams but rooting Blue. No one should have to lose to that juco OSU that many years in a row.
November 26th, 2011 at 2:54 PM
I just went back and checked Ty Duffy’s Friday post, and this game doesn’t matter. It’s utterly meaningless. Dirt
I figured he’d come around. I’m jacked up for KU vs Slavers.
/Bye bye Turner Gill Who Is A Very Nice Man
November 26th, 2011 at 2:54 PM
Hard to tell who the B1G wants to win this game.
/Zero penalties on Michigan
November 26th, 2011 at 2:56 PM
Yeah KC Res, Gill should have stayed in Buffalo.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:00 PM
Yeah KC Res, Gill should have stayed in Buffalo.
I don’t fault him for taking the money. I fault East Coast Lew for giving it to him. East Coast Lew killed WSU’s football program in the 80s and was apparently doing his best to kill KU. Fuck that guy. His stench will linger around KU for a long time.
And the worse part? He still lives in Lawrence and coaches jr. high girls basketball at the uppity rich kids’ school. Read: The kids of the donors he scammed. I don’t know how he can go out in public. Fuck that guy.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:01 PM
Worse/Worst. Time for bourbon and cursing at the tv.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:02 PM
Is mich even attempting to cover receivers? Guys are running wide open on every play.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:04 PM
Is mich even attempting to cover receivers? Guys are running wide open on every play.
Big 12 football at its finest. About time the the Big 10 figured out how to play entertaining football.
/runs away
November 26th, 2011 at 3:04 PM
You smell that? It’s the aromas of BBQ and meth at Camarohead
November 26th, 2011 at 3:05 PM
OSU has the more talented players. On the other hand, OSU playing this retarded zone is killing them. “Hey lets have 4 or 5 guys just stay about 5 – 10 feet away from the wide open WR!”
November 26th, 2011 at 3:07 PM
Matt McGloin will entertain you. Mostly in a bad way.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:07 PM
Luke fickell looks like he should be coaching high school football
November 26th, 2011 at 3:09 PM
Go wahoos! Beat virginia tech!
/asks v4l for forgiveness in advance

You smell that? It’s the aromas of BBQ and meth at Camarohead
I’m upwind so I don’t smell it, but I know it all too well. I doubt the stadium is much more than half full with it being 75% Mizzou. KU was hawking $15 tickets this week. Four years ago? I think the tickets were $85. Fuck East Coast Lew and Mizzou.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:10 PM
Looks like potato community might finally score on Wyoming at the end of the first half. A shame there isnt a playoff where they can prove themselves.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:11 PM
Coop, ive been watching that game online. Its like boise doesn’t care about the rest of the season
November 26th, 2011 at 3:15 PM
Worst.Defense.Ever.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:16 PM
The only thing more empty than Ohio State’s defense is the soul of Ohio State fans.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:19 PM
That’s a touchdown damnit.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:19 PM
Hey auburn, beat alabama even if you have to break some legs
November 26th, 2011 at 3:20 PM
I expected to lose this game. Hell, if Bollman wasn’t a retard and the refs called holding, they win the game. Oh well, Urban is coming.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:23 PM
Well enjoy it Michigan, Urban about to stick it to you Tressle style for the next 3 years.
Only 3 because his heart will explode putting up with the meatball OSU fans.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:23 PM
And the close-up cam misses the deception on the play. Solid production.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:23 PM
Can syracuse just move to the ACC now? Fuck you guys for losing 4 in a row, cocksuckers
November 26th, 2011 at 3:23 PM

November 26th, 2011 at 3:23 PM

i’m all over auburn….plus 21.5 that is
November 26th, 2011 at 3:26 PM
Wow, what a penalty. It’s Braxton time. Mich is going to blow this.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:33 PM
What a joke. Eat shit Fickell.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:34 PM
Just saw the comments in the NBA post. Congratulations on the little one, Coop. Hope everyone’s doing well.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:34 PM
“I’ve made a huge mistake.” – Urban Meyer
November 26th, 2011 at 3:36 PM
So Michigan wants to play in a BCS bowl? They let the worst offense in the big 10 put up 34 points at home. They will get stomped in a BCS bowl. They beat Nebraska and bunch of crappy teams.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:38 PM
HAIL TO THE VICTORS!
November 26th, 2011 at 3:41 PM
Liverpool – Man City Onion Bag tomorrow, Ty?
November 26th, 2011 at 3:41 PM
HAIL TO THE VICTORS!
Hail to another 7 year streak starting next year.
I like how Hike called a play that brought a penalty into the equation at the end. Holding never happens on a run up the middle.
November 26th, 2011 at 3:41 PM
Hoke
November 26th, 2011 at 3:46 PM
holy shit is that dumb
November 26th, 2011 at 3:50 PM
Devang – liverpool/man city..nothing like two huge divas going against each other. I dislike both balotelli and suarez but ill still root for city over liverpool

Just when I thought you were a cool cat, you go ahead and say something so incredibly offensive.
