I am just so disgusted that someone who somehow was both meglomaniacal and lacking in basic common sense was given the chance to slowly run an athletic department into the ground.

@Buckner- It is a shame that the track program is being cut. One of the greatest US track athletes ever is a UMD alum and it sucks the program is going to be buried.

When they say “Athletic Director Kevin Anderson will give supporters of each team identified in the commission’s report until June 30 the opportunity to raise eight years’ worth of total program costs.” How much would that be roughly for Track and XC? I don’t know anything about the travel and things like that — but I would imagine it cannot cost more than $200k a year. Does scholarship money count towards that? I would imagine it would not.

I don’t really expect the team to get saved, but I’m hoping.

I was out of school, single, and bored. I’d go running after work every night and then get high. Runner’s high + weed high = A fucking many awesome evenings. And I’d run several half-marathons prior to the 1:44. I doubt I could run a half in under 2:30 now. I doubt I could run a half at all now, actually.

Sucks that they cut the team. This is about the 8th-10th time I’ve seen this happen in the last dozen years and although every track team tried to raise money, none influenced the athletic department enough to make a difference. Hope you guys are the first ones.

The best half I ever did was 1:44 when I was 25.

My first half was at age 25 (about to turn 28) and I’ve yet to match that time in any other race. I feel like I’m already washed up.

The best half I ever did was 1:44 when I was 25. Ran my ass off for that. I ran several sub-1:50s half-marathons. I have many t-shirts for all that training. And then I got married, had a kid and pretty much quit running.

It’s cool TBL, I’m involved in with the XC and Track teams at Maryland, and a student at Maryland. Just been a rough couple weeks. Really, we knew something was going to happen when the original rumors, then reports of the massive lack of funds and how much fudging Yow did, we just didn’t think XC and Track would get cut. Really, we’re pretty cheap dates.
