Iowa State Upsets No. 2 Oklahoma State 37-31 in Overtime. Hello, LSU vs. Alabama Rematch.
Oklahoma State has been eliminated from the BCS Title Race. The No. 2 ranked Cowboys blew a 17-point lead against Iowa State in Ames, missing the go-head field goal in the final minute. Brandon Weeden had a ball tipped off Justin Blackmon’s hands for an interception in the second overtime. Iowa State retorted for a touchdown, 37-31 is your final.
BCS Implications: It’s not really chaos. This sets up the LSU vs. Alabama rematch as far and away the most likely BCS scenario. LSU is basically in. This makes it less likely Oklahoma will swoop in on the final day. Alabama has a clear lead on Oregon who can’t do enough to turn the tide (ba-boom-tish) and won’t get the no rematch bump since they’ve played LSU as well. Provided they win the Iron Bowl, they should reach the title game as well. This would have been far more interesting if Boise State had stayed undefeated.
The only real nightmare scenario for the BCS is Alabama winning out and LSU beating Arkansas but losing the BCS title game. That would put both LSU and Alabama up for the BCS title without either having won the SEC.
Coaching Implications: Someone at a bigger program should take a serious look at Paul Rhodes. Knack for big upsets. His teams are always well coached. Going bowling at Iowa State is no mediocre feat.

Gene Chizik couldnt get ISU bowl eligible. Also Rhoads was Pitt DC the year they knocked off #2 WVU to keep them out of the BCS title game.
Btw the replay show the ISU defender tipped the pass in OT, not Blackmon. Blackmon is a man amongst boys out there, cant wait to watch him on Sundays. That OSU defense is a joke though.

Mike Slive just fapped to that sentence. 3 BCS bowl bids.

LSU-Houston >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LSU-Bama rematch > LSU-Oregon rematch
For me, at least.

An SEC purist wouldn’t want to see Bama-LSU, since that would guarantee the SEC’s first loss in the BCS title game.
November 19th, 2011 at 1:07 AM
The irony is that Bama has an easier road to the title game than LSU. They’re actually better off if LSU beats Arkansas and plays in the SEC title game, one less chance for a Bama loss.
November 19th, 2011 at 1:08 AM
If LSU loses in the SEC Title Game and Bama wins out, the SEC can’t get 3 teams in because there is a cap at 2 teams from one conference in the BCS. So either LSU or Alabama would be out should Georgia win the SEC.
November 19th, 2011 at 1:10 AM
THE BCS should take away the Big Easts Automatic bid.
November 19th, 2011 at 1:38 AM
False, the one exception to the rule is if two teams that did not win the conference are No. 1 and No. 2 in the BCS standings. Those teams would have to play in the title game and the BCS would have to take the SEC Champion. All three would get in.

Not chaos. It’s going to be a shit sandwich.
/Mmmmmmmm. Shiiit saaandwiiich.

Might as well go with Houston. I’m not a fan of rematches unless all other viable options are crappier. I’d rather watch LSU’s D go after Casey Kassum or whatever his name is…

I don’t think Rhoads is going anywhere. He’s an Iowa (State) guy.

I really hate the idea of LSU-Bama for the NC. Enough that I could root for Arkansas and Georgia Southern. And Auburn. Houston in the BCS title game would be a good time. Case Keenum deserves a special 7th year senior award for being awesome and having the most passing yards ever in a season that didn’t count against his eligibility.

This seems relevant to the conversation at hand…
November 19th, 2011 at 8:42 AM
Wow, completely misses this. OkSU hadnt beaten anyone decent all year, and with that defense was bound to get burnt. LSU/Bama have looked eminently beatable in recent weeks, opens the door for OU/Oregon and even Clemson/Arkansas if things go nuts.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:44 AM
Great..just…great..
Go Arkansas!
November 19th, 2011 at 8:46 AM
I’m not sure LSU survives a late-season loss is Oklahoma/Oregon both run the table. Recent losses mean more, historically.

LSU-Houston >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LSU-Bama rematch > LSU-Oregon rematch
Easy. A team that
-loses at home w/o scoring a TD,
-can’t outright win their conference
-can’t outright win their division
does not deserve to compete in a NATIONAL title game.
November 19th, 2011 at 8:53 AM
I’m not categorically anti-rematch, although I’d rather not see it. BUT, if LSU loses and there’s still a rematch of 1-loss SEC teams, that would be some bullshit.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:01 AM
Remember when there were going to be 7 unbeaten teams and 5 of them were getting screwed?
/you people fall for it EVERY SINGLE YEAR
//this is LSU’s nightmare scenario
///we thought we buried the ghost of Saban 2 weeks ago
November 19th, 2011 at 9:03 AM
LSU v Oklahoma >>>>>>>>>> LSU v Bama
November 19th, 2011 at 9:05 AM
Oregon does not deserve to go ahead of Alabama based on how both teams played LSU.
And if Oklahoma wanted to get in, all they had to do was beat a Texas Tech team that’s been outscored 9,000-7 since they beat Oklahoma.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:07 AM
If OSU did beat Oklahoma, I think they ought to get first dibs. They didn’t lose to LSU, and I’m guessing it’s pretty hard to be focused the day after a plane crash.
Plus, LSU would DESTROY them. From what I saw last night, they’re West Virginia with a much, much, much, much, much worse defense.
/plus, that FG was good

funny, because it literally happens every year, everywhere. If 9 teams win out, there will be 9 undefeated teams. Never mind that it’s week 4.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:12 AM
LOL at the OSU and BSU kickers.
/yeah that kicked looked good to me
November 19th, 2011 at 9:16 AM
BCS Gods > Tebow > Playoffs
November 19th, 2011 at 9:18 AM
What’s funny was that the announcers were acting like all OSU had to do was get the ball past the 50 and the game was over. Because their kicker was a cross between Adam Vinatieri and Sebastian Janikowski.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:20 AM
I shouldn’t laugh. tOSU kicker got his pat blocked last week, killing any chance of a B1G Championship birth.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:31 AM
And for Houston, you needed a 28 point comeback in the 4th quarter to beat Louisiana Tech. That’s not BCS championship game material.
November 19th, 2011 at 9:37 AM
Really? Sure seems like chaos.
/Playoffs anyone?

Plus, Tulsa will beat them.

Oregon TD – finally.
