The Second Mile Chairman Was Political Donor to Judge Who Reduced Jerry Sandusky’s Bail
Jerry Sandusky is accused of being a serial predator and pederast. Prosecutors asked for bail to be set at $500,000 and for Sandusky to be forced to wear a tracking bracelet. Judge Leslie Dutchcot, however, set bail at $100,000 with no bracelet and in order not to have contact with children. The bail was unsecured, meaning he need not pay it unless he misses his court date.
This ruling seemed a bit light to most observers given the charges, including Pennsylvania politicians who have raised a couple potential conflicts of interest. Dutchcot had previously performed charity work for The Second Mile (no contact with Sandusky), but more interestingly, Robert Poole, the chairman of The Second Mile, held a campaign fundraiser for Dutchcot at his home that raised $1,463 for her campaign. Poole also donated nearly $10,000 to the campaign of Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett, who recently called for an investigation of the charity.
Will be interested to see if State College takes a tumble down these ratings. Long way to go to catch Detroit.

So Corbett is our leader in the clubhouse for “someone with integrity” in relation to all of this?
November 16th, 2011 at 1:26 PM
Didn’t Corbett also grant $3 million to the charity that is now on hold?
Nice that this is all coming out well after the fact. Does America do anything better than fill a 24 hour news cycle with trivialities?

Francesa thinks you should just go to the barber shop, guys. Get on it. I want primary sources here. None of this secondhand knowledge. Get on the ground and get to it. We’re all depending on you.

Elmira is a shithole.

That is a great example of the original definition of “hook-up” – giving someone an undeserved break, as payback for prior considerations or for future considerations.
Our legal system, while usually well-run, does have exceptions that leak thru. I’d like to know what that judge was thinking.

Hair Salon guy here. Big fake boobs in the face while you get your hair washed. I don’t get that at the Bahbah shop.

I heard that it was reported, and deemed not to be conflict of interest because her charity work consisted of a small number of volunteer hours, and no $$ or other kickbacks.

Seems like the money was already allocated during the Rendell administration. Of course, if the problem is Sandusky, and the charity does good, do you not give them money, even after Sandusky is out of the picture?
November 16th, 2011 at 1:44 PM
I’m actually more inclined to think that the judge is just stupid, and not corrupt. It’s not like Sandusky personally gave her the money, or that she stands to gain politically by looking out for a child molester.

a week ago a lot of us assumed that all this crap would come out and to not be surprised by anything. next post, i want aliens involved. then, i might raise a brow

A few things.
The bail is total bullshit. I see people sit in jail for a lot longer than necessary because of kid sex charges that are a lot less “vile”. But it is what it is.
Second. Are we suppossed to be shocked that the head of a large charity in a county of a little more 100,000 people (a good chunk being students, with no other connection than the school) supported a fundraiser for a judge?
Dude IT’S A SMALL TOWN. EVERYONE KNOWS EVERYONE. This isn’t Los Angeles.

Charity work was reported. Donations and personally holding a fund-raiser for her political campaign were not.

Pennsylvania is giving Florida a serious run for it’s money….

This situation is just screaming out for a FEDERAL investigation. When it appears like the governor of the state may be complicit in pushing sweetheart deals for favored state employees, that the state legislature has lost control of the biggest state institution, and that the judiciary branch is handing out unsecured bail to an alleged 40x pervert whose past ties can still inlfuence giving to her campaign, it’s really time for no-fucking-around look into who’s zooming who.
