NFL Week 10 Power Rankings
Green Bay turned in a wonderful performance to close the week. Baltimore peed itself again, and just when Houston looked ready to make a claim for AFC favorite with a balanced approach and another dominant win, the Schaub injury throws it all in doubt. The AFC is a mess at the top, while the NFC is shaping up in a far more structured fashion, with Green Bay at top, San Francisco virtually locked in,
Dallas and the Giants heading for some showdowns, and the Falcons trying to catch the Lions and Bears.
THE AARON RODGERS IS INSANE TIER
Green Bay Packers (9-0): Now that was an impressive performance.
THE OTHER TEAMS JIM PLUNKETT PLAYED FOR TIER
New England Patriots (6-3): You can now return to your regularly scheduled opinions that the Patriots are pretty good.
San Francisco 49ers (8-1): The wins by Seattle and Arizona prevented the 49ers from mathematically clinching this week. A little bummed by that.
GOOD TEAMS ON A BYE TIER
Houston Texans (7-3): I would have had the Texans up a group before the news that Matt Leinart will start. They get a week off at the right time to get him ready. The rest of the team will keep them going, but not buying that Leinart will have discovered how to play quarterback. He can check it down to Foster though.
Baltimore Ravens (6-3): That’s now three bad road losses for the Ravens, offsetting what may be the best set of three wins of anyone (Houston, Pittsburgh twice).
New Orleans Saints (7-3): A month ago, having Ryan Fitzpatrick as a backup to Drew Brees for the bye week seemed like a good idea.
Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3): With the news of all the quarterbacks going down, Big Ben let us know he is hurt too. But he will tough it out.
Chicago Bears (6-3): No team has seen their fortunes change as much as the Bears over the last three weeks. Now in great shape for a playoff spot.
THE MOST LIKEABLE TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE TIER
Dallas Cowboys (5-4): It’s official, Felix Pipp will serve as the change of pace back.
New York Giants (6-3): Giants must put the Eagles out of their misery or they open the door for . . . the Cowboys, based on division tiebreakers.
Detroit Lions (6-3): An embarrassing performance for Detroit, who has started poorly in too many road games and couldn’t recover this time.
New York Jets (5-4): Revis Island will become connected by a land bridge this Thursday, as there will be no air traffic.
THE CLOSE BUT NEED TO WIN MORE TIER
Buffalo Bills (5-4): The Bills have turned in two straight bad performances, but I expect the truth to be somewhere in between the start and the last two.
Atlanta Falcons (5-4): Mike Smith probably thought the Saints would miss a short field goal in overtime again.
Oakland Raiders (5-4): The AFC West favorite when McFadden comes back and Palmer gets even more comfortable with his receivers.
Cincinnati Bengals (6-3): The Leon Hall injury won’t help them catch the Ravens and Steelers.
Tennessee Titans (5-4): The Titans need to win enough games to keep the pressure on Houston going into the week 17 game. Probably need to go 4-2 over the next six and win the division games, then hope.
THE NORV TURNER VS. ANDY REID TIER
Philadelphia Eagles (3-6): Embarrassing. Talked about no bad losses based on opponent, so they went out and did something about that.
Seattle Seahawks (3-6): The scourge of survivor pools everywhere.
San Diego Chargers (4-5): When your best win might be against the Dolphins, you aren’t playing very well. The offensive tackle position with McNeill out was a major issue.
Jacksonville Jaguars (3-6): The defense continues to impress, and if the offense can get anything going this team will be a dangerous late season opponent for playoff contenders.
THE ACCURATE FORWARD PASSES ARE OPTIONAL TIER
Miami Dolphins (2-7): Reggie Bush has suddenly become a touchdown vulture.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-5): Can we now put a bow on the thought that this team is bad but just gets lucky in some close games?
Washington Redskins (3-6): Who is the third string quarterback? I just need to know now who the Shanahans think can be a NFL starter next year.
Arizona Cardinals (3-6): The John Skelton versus Kevin Kolb debate is getting ready to heat up the desert.
Carolina Panthers (2-7): The Panthers turned in their first truly awful performance of the year.
Denver Broncos (4-5): The most recent clutch quarterbacks to win a game with 3 or fewer completions: Derek Anderson, David Carr, Akili Smith, Sammy Garz, and Shawn Halloran. The last two were replacement quarterbacks for the Cardinals in 1987.
WHAT ELSE IS ON WHEN THESE TEAMS ARE IN PRIMETIME? TIER
Minnesota Vikings (2-7): I feel bad for Adrian Peterson. Hopefully his team will get a punky quarterback and a dominant defense and turn into a contender before he is done.
St. Louis Rams (2-7): Sam Bradford beat Colt McCoy’s team, though the fried corndogs on a stick and funnel cakes were not in attendance.
Cleveland Browns (3-6): Over half the remaining games are against Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
Kansas City Chiefs (4-5): Monday night football next week, then Sunday night football. Get ready, ‘merica.
THE LUCK IS LOCKED UP TIER
Indianapolis Colts (0-10): This team has managed to get worse every week recently. Someone tell them their job is done and they can now at least try to be competitive. They are a 13 point home dog against the BYE.

No it isn’t.

SUPER BEARS! SUPER BOWL! SUPER BEARS! SUPER BOWL!
November 15th, 2011 at 4:58 PM
If the Saints lose Brees at some point, we will be further up shit creek than the Texans and Chiefs.
November 15th, 2011 at 4:59 PM
When does flex scheduling kick in? Matt Cassel is pretty terrible and I’m sure his replacement is even worse.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:00 PM
Now that they have an elite QB, the Raiders are just looking for a 1st round bye.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:01 PM
The bolded can only mean STANZI.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:02 PM
yes it is.
/you go
November 15th, 2011 at 5:02 PM
It already has but the Cassel injury wasn’t known until it was too late, think they need to give two weeks notice
November 15th, 2011 at 5:02 PM
That is exactly what I have…
November 15th, 2011 at 5:02 PM
Jacksonville Jaguars (3-6): The defense continues to impress, and if the offense can get anything going this team will be a dangerous late season opponent for playoff contenders.
I’ll take it!
November 15th, 2011 at 5:03 PM
I’m stuck with a guy that has no running game. Hasselbeck needs to put up some numbers why Brees is out. Only 2 games separate me from 1st place and being out of the playoffs. Tight league this year.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:06 PM
i see what you did there with the Jets being “likable”
November 15th, 2011 at 5:06 PM
Flex only applies to NBC Sunday night, ESPN will always be stuck with shitty games on Monday.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:07 PM
At the beginning of the season, Josh Freeman seemed like a good backup…
/just dropped him for Palmer.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:08 PM
Wow. So every team has at least two wins. I think it’s far more likely the Colts go 0-16 than the Packers going 19-0. If the ponies were going to eek out a W, it was last week against Gabbert and the Jags.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:08 PM
They play on NBC in 12 days.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:08 PM
It’d be funnier if it wasn’t so predictable.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:09 PM
Meh. We’ve seen much worse.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:09 PM
i see what you did there with the Jets being “likable”
At first glance I thought it said lickable.
/toes
November 15th, 2011 at 5:11 PM
if the football gods were just, they would find someway to make Indy miss out on Luck for willingly giving up on the perfect season and let the Jets in the playoffs.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:11 PM
If the ponies were going to eek out a W, it was last week against Gabbert and the Jags.
They still get the Jaguars in Jacksonville in the “Please For the Love of God Don’t Win Enough Games to Save Jack Del Rio’s Job” Bowl.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:12 PM
Fox moved up the Detroit/Chicago game this past weekend to the 4:15ET start. It was originally scheduled as an early day game.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:13 PM
so soon? thought it was in 3 weeks. damn.
at least i know i can watch dexter and the walking dead and not miss anything for football in 12 days.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:13 PM
Now this is funny.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:13 PM

Similar situation. I just fell from 3rd to 6th with my loss this last week. I just proposed a trade to a guy who’s 3-7 but has Larry Fitzgerald, which I know will be turned down. But I’m desperate.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:16 PM
I believe that the rest of the schedule has every game but the protected games and the West Coast games at 1:00.
After NBC makes its choice, Fox and CBS can move games to 4:15 accordingly.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:16 PM
My options are either Tebow or Freeman. Lean towards tebow since he is home and gets rushing yards/tds
November 15th, 2011 at 5:16 PM
This is a sad mugshot. He looks so surprised.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:17 PM
before last week the top 6 teams in my league all had the same record, this week, the top 4 do.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:17 PM
browns too high.
/didn’t even see where they were
November 15th, 2011 at 5:18 PM
I felt bad for the Browns this weekend…
November 15th, 2011 at 5:18 PM
Better question: What the frick do you do if you have Jimmy Graham?
November 15th, 2011 at 5:18 PM
Excellent reference.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:19 PM
49ers are currently 8-1 and have 5 games left against the NFC West, the Harbaugh Bowl and Pittsburgh at home for Monday Night Football. 13 wins is not out of the question. I still think the Packers get homefield throughout the playoffs though.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:20 PM
before last week the top 6 teams in my league all had the same record, this week, the top 4 do.
I’m basically fighting for one of two playoff spots. The guy who is first in our league is 9-1 and has a huge points advantage.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:21 PM
My TE problem: Graham is my starter. Gonzalez is my flex. I only have two healthy RBs and 2 good WRs, so my choices are this:
Keep Gonzalez at flex and start Dustin Keller at TE
Move Gonzalez to TE and start Felix Jones, Stevan Ridley, or Reggie Wayne at flex
Not fun.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:23 PM
Ravens v. 49ers, Packers @ Lions and Bears @ Packers are the games I am most looking forward to the rest of the way. Hoping the Bears can take 3 of 4 from the AFC West teams over the next few weeks. If they can beat the Chargers, I am pretty confident in beating KC and DEN too. Supreme Lord Cutler will want to hang 40+ on the Broncos. Oakland I have concerns with because of their running game.
11 wins is totally possible for Chicago.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:23 PM

Egh, the first option might be best. Though I’ve been suffering as a Keller owner this year. Sanchez either targets him a lot or, more often, he forgets that Keller is even on the field.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:23 PM
glad to see the Vikings are finally in the correct tier.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:24 PM
it’s crazy. I’m in another league where the division leader is 6-3-1 and the other 4 teams are 6-4.
also playing a team with aaron rodgers that lost the last two weeks, so i hope that trend continues and i can sneak into the playoffs.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:25 PM
Why? They catered to his demands made while whining like a spoiled child

November 15th, 2011 at 5:26 PM
yay for Marcus Cannon. Good luck, dude.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:26 PM
I am slightly concerned that this phrasing is intimating a comparison with Walter Payton.
/puts on Sweetness jersey
//digs feet in

also, you likely never saw him play with 2 digits in your age.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:28 PM
I tried for about 4 minutes to come up with a Favre joke and I couldn’t muster one worth submitting.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:28 PM
Our trade deadline is Friday, so I’m about to start peppering the 3-7 teams in my league with deals. If the Fitzgerald one gets denied, I might make an offer for Bowe…maybe.
I’m desperate because I’m actually tied with the person who holds the last playoff spot, but that person has a 70 point advantage on me. But I’ve lost 3 in a row, so I have to do something.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:29 PM
My league is a 10 team, with only 4 getting in. Currently the records are like this… 8-2, 7-3, 7-3, 6-4, 6-4 (me), 6-4
These last 4 weeks are going to be real interesting to see who gets in.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:29 PM
I was 3 when he retired. Kinda sucks. NFL Films is really the only Sweetness footage I have.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:31 PM
Now it makes more sense.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:31 PM
haha, likewise! I’m going after Wallace, Nicks or DeSean. DeSean is my last choice, but probably the easiest one to get.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:32 PM
There’s a guy who had a decent beef, getting passed over for a more talented QB…Cutler got jealous like a high school girl because the new coach didn’t love him and acted like a bitch
November 15th, 2011 at 5:32 PM
I was 3 when he retired. Kinda sucks. NFL Films is really the only Sweetness footage I have.
let me help: he took some drugs habitually and had some extramarital fun while spending some years as one of the top RBs in the NFL
November 15th, 2011 at 5:33 PM
haha, likewise! I’m going after Wallace, Nicks or DeSean. DeSean is my last choice, but probably the easiest one to get.
Shit, I wish we were in the same league. I’m trying to dump DeSean in a trade.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:35 PM
But it could also be argued he made the right decision not wanting to play for McDaniels. That guy put all his eggs in the Tebow basket and the omelet broke.
Jay knew he wanted to play in Chicago and become a star. He did the right thing.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:35 PM
And the guy who is in last place in our league just put Pettigrew on the trading block. The only problem? He just broke up with a girl that we were all friends with and he may not be paying much attention to our league anymore.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:36 PM
I feel like we are. I started 6-0 and was on top of the world and now I’m in the 5 hole at 6-4. Combo of bye weeks, injuries to Mathews and Brandshaw, and not having a 2nd WR has killed me lately.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:36 PM
fucking matt shaub.
i think the texans trainers give the players malk after workouts. we are always hurt.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:37 PM
If that was what happened, sure, but it wasn’t.
November 15th, 2011 at 5:37 PM

Well if we are and you are Scott, then trade me Larry Fitzgerald.
/knows we’re not in the same league and that you’re not Scott
November 15th, 2011 at 5:41 PM
I was in the same boat, now I’m starting Sanchez instead
/vomits
November 15th, 2011 at 5:42 PM
I’ve pretty my conceded losing in fantasy this week. Two wins in the following two weeks gets me in. Please just throw jump balls to Dre 3000, Leinart. I will buy you as many Smirnoff Ices that you want for you bros.

“A month ago, having Ryan Fitzpatrick as a backup to Drew Brees for the bye week seemed like a good idea.”
Today, the Bills might be better served by making this fantasy a reality!
