Louisville Coach Charlie Strong Blames Call of Duty for Loss to Pittsburgh
Here’s Louisville football coach Charlie Strong addressing the media Monday, two days after his Cardinals fell to the Panthers, 21-14. “I said on Tuesday we have guys that miss class because they want to stay (up) all night and play that video game, whatever it was. I didn’t even know what it was, but it’s such a big deal … That new … call of Duty. It was a Call of Duty. They got Called to Duty. It’s young people. That’s what we’re dealing with … they want to try it, it engulfs them.”
Two turnovers, five penalties, quarterback sacked three times … could Call of Duty end up costing the Cardinals a trip to a bowl game? To get to .500, Louisville must split its last two games, both of which are on the road (UConn, South Florida). [via Hot Clicks]

At least they didn’t steal it, Charlie. You’ve got that going for you.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:07 AM
Seems reasonable. I made up an excuse to miss a stupid meeting because I wanted to play. Back when I had a desk job I occasionally called in sick when a big game came out.
And I’m a responsible grown up, these are kids in a dorm room.

Great piece from David Brooks about Penn State, the commentariat, and the biases nobody ever acknowledges. Brooks must have been reading TBL for the past week.

Team Defender is a pretty fun mode. It can also get frustrating really quickly.

I did a three hour session last night from 8pm to 11:15pm. Paying for it now.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:22 AM
The game is pretty sweet. It’s tough, but I like it. I’ve had it for a week and played it sparingly, though. Life gets in the way all too often.

I drank brandy and perused the extended works of Socrates last night.

I’m still trying to get through the campaign mode. Played for like 90 minutes last night. I’m still struggling with some aspects of it. Need to learn to use my grenades better.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:26 AM
got my hopes up of a potential brandy discussion.
damnit.
i did, however, watch some football and the walking dead on my new hd projector in 85 glorious inches of television.

Wife is out of Town Thursday night so I will crush this game then. I haven’t even started the campaign mode yet, though. Jumped right into multiplayer.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:30 AM
likewise, but i think im going to wait until AC3 comes out. not enough new shit to get me to buy and i wasn’t into the multiplayer.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:31 AM
I knew it would happen but it’s ridiculous some of the people running around have already prestiged and have all the perks and are sniping you at after sprinting.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:31 AM
The campaign portion is probably the best FPS experience I’ve seen, great pacing, varied action, not too long. Just fantastic.

I’m 28 Jose, and I still am in love with my Sega Genesis. The last new game of any type I bought was Age of Empires III for my laptop.

im not 23, but i think im pretty close to being in the same boat. used to be a big gamer but now i just don’t really want to play…id much rather work on my golf swing instead.

Shit I take days off all the time for video games. I took last Friday off to play Skyrim all day. My company policy on vacation time is use it or lose it and I have like 6 weeks of it now. So I take off for stupid shit all the time.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:32 AM
So true. I’ve been getting my ass handed to me. I’m not awesome at the game, but I’m not retarded either.

I’ve never really been into video games. I played more in my youth, but I got out after N64. Save for a few games of HALO in the dorms, I haven’t played frequently since 8th grade.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:34 AM
The last worthwhile video game was “Elevator Action.”

My game playing has dropped significantly (80% easy) since college. I only play 1-2 games a year. I will say that if I were single I would play much more, though.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:34 AM
I skipped many-a-class for some 2v2 CTF.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:35 AM
I might play a video game on an average of once or twice a month. the last one I played was rise of nightmares for kinect, which was bad ass.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:35 AM
That’s how I feel. The only stat I care about is the K:D ratio so it’s frustrating when you get picked off in one particular match. However when it is your team doing the beating it is fun as hell.

The combat system has been overhauled apparently, along with the introduction of bombs, new assassin missions, and a graphics improvement. Also there’s a tower defense mode as well (got panned by IGN though).
November 15th, 2011 at 10:40 AM
My wife is also a big gamer, so she doesn’t mind my obsessive gaming. She loved watching me play Uncharted 2 and we’ll probably start Uncharted 3 this weekend.
I just have a huge backlog I want to complete before said wife wants to “settle down”.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:41 AM
yea…still on the fence tho. $60 aint much, but it’s a round of golf and/or a bag of mellow…ive bought way too many brand new games only to play em for like three hours and never touch them again.

November 15th, 2011 at 10:44 AM
Fuck snipers….well, fuck quick-scopers. That has to be the most frustrating thing in the game, especially when you see their crosshairs are about 5 feet to the left/right/above you and they get a kill.
/hot boxes are too big when using sniper rifles
November 15th, 2011 at 10:45 AM
Did you have the same friends that wanted to play 2v2 CTF, but on the huge maps made for Big Team? What the hell is the point of that?
And I played a shit ton of videogames once I got XBL in 2004. All through high school I played on Live and lan parties (mostly Halo), I burned out on multiplayer. Will still enjoy single player and RPG’s with great stories.
November 15th, 2011 at 10:46 AM

I still make it a point to replay Final Fantasy 6 every year. Best game ever.

This was my freshman year at school — so 2003\2004 and we would (nerd speak coming) usually play 2v2 CTF on Blood Gultch and the games would last anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Then, when we found out the guys who lived above us played we would play 4v4 usually on Blood Gultch as well. This was original Halo, and we would have to use our dorms wireless to connect. As college progressed, the constant Halo continuted just in different venues and usually we played online.

Made it through campaign on MW1 and 2, made it about halfway on Black Ops, story must have picked have really picked up. I’m sure I’ll go back and play it through on MW3 just because of the storyline.

November 15th, 2011 at 10:54 AM
Yea, Blood Gulch is way too big for any 2v2 crap, especially objective. I just enjoyed H2 having BTB objective in Coagulation, Terminal, or Headlong.

By the way, Houston Nutt is blaming his team’s poor showing this season on a game they didn’t wasnt to play. It’s called football.
