Arizona 21, Philadelphia 17: It’s Probably Safe To Bury the Eagles Now
Yeah, so about what I wrote this week saying the Eagles would still win the division if they went on the road to the Giants and won, sorry. That assumed, in arguendo, that the Eagles would not lose at home to the Cardinals as 14 point favorites. Up until this point, the Eagles had lost close games, but they were to good teams, and they were just a few plays from looking a lot better.
Then, DeSean Jackson was benched for missing a meeting, Jeremy Maclin got hurt, and Michael Vick looked tentative without his top receivers. The Steve Smith and Riley Cooper combo wasn’t quite as scary. And the defense got some interceptions against John Skelton, but also let him lead the game winning drive, and Larry Fitzgerald absolutely went beast on the Eagles.
So losing at home, to a backup, when favored big? Yeah, the Eagles aren’t going to win enough games down the stretch to matter, even if they rebound next week. That loss not only was the worst of the year, it was also costly if they were to somehow able to get to tiebreakers with other teams. Not that the tiebreakers are likely to come in now anyway.

As a Cardinals fan, I still can’t believe that John Skelton won 2 straight games.

Lisk,
I’d be interested in your thoughts on Smith’s call in the Falcons-Saints game. (Haven’t read through the comments today, so if you already voiced your opinion, I’ll see it there)
