the same reaction Lions fans had during his tenure as GM

Does the Big 10 postpone this Saturday’s game? How can these kids go out and play with this circus going on?
November 8th, 2011 at 12:34 PM
Well, that was awkward.
November 8th, 2011 at 12:37 PM
just play the game in front of friends and family..like they do in Europe when they ban all male fans from games for enciting riots.

I am going to confidently say Millen can go fuck himself.
It was public record that ‘Sandusky + boys + PSU showers + admits improprieties’. Millen is close to the PSU program and there is no way he does not ask someone what really went on. 13 years later not only is Sandusky running a children’s charity but you are helping him?
Wipe you tears off your worthless face and apologize to the victims.

Give the dude some credit. That has to be brutally challenging to go on national TV and repudiate something that was such a central part of your existence. I haven’t watch the whole clip but on Twitter Millen was getting ripped for defending Paterno, the program, et al. But it’s as if this were a family member, you may be horrified but you also know whatever goodness exists in that person. What a brutal conflict.

NOW APOLOGIZE TO THE STATE OF MICHIGAN. STOP CALLING GAMES IMMEDIATELY.

I dislike this guy. I really do.
0-16. Never forget.

Hold on now. Is there any indication whatsoever that he knew anything? Or even, as a board member, should have known? For starters, boards of organizations like this are often for show as much as they are for governance, so Millen may have had very little to do with the organization. (Maybe he did, I don’t know).
But secondly, it’s not as if board members ask, “Hey, are you by any chance abusing the kids you’re supposed to be helping?” Nobody does that.
It seems entirely feasible that a guy like Millen truly had no idea.

I gotta think it’ll be manageable by Saturday.
November 8th, 2011 at 12:45 PM
I’m sure they play. But what about the broadcast? Or the pregame inside the stadium? It’s not like a death where you can do a moment of silence or something. This will be the biggest god damned elephant in the room ever.

Im getting blank screen, no video. Damn.

Most board members get a pass but Millen was a part of PSU and was literally coached by Sandsuky. If any of your former coaches at any level was accused of this and suddenly left the program it would raise red flags. Red flags about child rape is not something I would associate myself with in a children’s charity. In this whole mess is their anyone with common sense or decency?
November 8th, 2011 at 12:49 PM
You know what I think they do? Play the game with no music whatsoever. No band, nothing piped in, nothing. Nothing from the PA announcer besides the down and distance. Nothing flashy on the scoreboard.
Some solemnity to acknowledge the gravity of what’s going on.

Vladimir is awesome today hahah
November 8th, 2011 at 12:51 PM
The point is, nobody knows if Millen knew anything at all, ever, until these charges came out this weekend. Outrage is understandable and justified but let’s be fair here.

Getting a blank screen from the video.

If you ask anyone inside of the NFL (I saw this on an NFL network special once) they will say that Millen was one of the best men they ever met, stand up guy, ideal teammate, great locker room guy etc. His tenure as a GM was awful as awful can be but that doesnt make him a POS as a person. This dude was one of the most ruthless football players to ever put on a uniform so I can imagine that if he “knew something” he wouldnt be crying on national TV. He would keep his mouth shut like the university President

Deep breath…okay so at the very least he was an idiot who lent his name to a child rapists children’s charity of which he should have aware of inappropriate dealings with children before.
Can we all agree to that?
/Everyone whose name is on that website should probably fire their publicists
November 8th, 2011 at 1:00 PM
Actually, no.
Again, the outrage is understandable. But why would a guy like Millen NOT lend his name to what everyone thinks is a great charity, when he has no reason to think something like this was happening? How should he have been aware of this? It’s pretty clear that Penn State officials were at best negligent and at worst covering up Sandusky’s behavior.
If Millen knew something, by all means string him up. But it’s pretty tough to argue he should have known when apparently very few people knew.
November 8th, 2011 at 1:08 PM
How should he have been aware of this?
Sandusky’s shower incident made the news and judging by the comments was a well known story in Happy Valley. Everyone put the blinders on, if just one person didn’t stick their fingers in their ears and shut their eyes this could have ended 13 years ago. And yeah if I’m a part of children’s charity I damn well want to know how the children are treated and how the founder has treated children in the past. It’s Millen’s repsonsiblity to know and he had the access, it’s a failing on his part the question was Millen’s not knowing purposeful or just ignorant.
November 8th, 2011 at 1:15 PM
This is all easy to say in hindsight. But in reality, Millen probably did nothing more than lend his name as an honorary board member, same as Lou Holtz and Mark Wahlberg. Their role is probably purely promotional and I doubt they have anything to do with the governance or day-to-day operations of the charity. That happens all the time.
A lot of people effed up here, no question. It’s WAY premature to say Millen was one of them.

Man…that was pretty powerful to watch, actually. I feel for guys who played there and have a personal connection with the school. This has to be just stunning.

He cried the same way when the Lions tanked.

Anyone sympathizing with Joe Pa or the PSU org needs help. Its all disgusting & I have lost all respect for JoePa & Penn State. His 409 wins will forever be overshadowed by the fact that he didnt call 911 when he heard the words “child”, “rape”, & “shower”. Bottom line is they all cared about a big football program more than children. The retirement is only foe Penn State to try to save face. I will never watch Penn again.
