Fair enough. I do think it would be difficult to distinguish between “QB missing an opportunity to run” and “QB choosing not to run because he doesn’t want to get hit”. And based on the amount of hits Vick willingly takes throughout many games (and that he refuses to ever slide)… I think you easily give him the benefit of the doubt.

The answer is none. When you have a QB you hang on, especially one as good as Vick.

Doesn’t really answer my question, which was only peripherally about Vick. What about Stafford. Let’s say he’s an above average QB who averages 11 games a year. And Shaun Hill isn’t as good (maybe not true but go with it) but can play 16 games a year and would only miss time with a freak injury.

There must be a point at which health/performance/finances curves all intersect, and it becomes better to have ‘lesser’ players you can count on who are above average, than a good player half the time, and undrafted fucking free agents starting a CB in the fucking playoffs every year.

With someone like Vick, if he can’t stay healthy and misses 4 games a year, how much does that change whether it’s a good investment for the team, or are injuries just too random.

It’s still a secondary concern to the bigger question which is what other options did the Eagles have? You can pay a player like Vick, who can be elite when healthy but does have injury concerns, or you can…. what? What other QBs are available that could hypothetically help the Eagles reach a SB?

The answer is none. When you have a QB you hang on, especially one as good as Vick. That they only signed him to a deal that allows them to get out after two years makes it a really good deal for the team.

Is past injury history a predictor of future injuries? Is that something a team could consider? after learning of the contract, i was curious why he got the money he did based on past injury history and inconsistent performance. now i am even more curious based on what he has done this year. i dont really care how long the contract is for.

Before last night, the Eagles had the least punts in the NFL. Last night was the first time any team this year outgained them. Vick is averaging 7.8 YPA and over 62% completions, both marks well above anything he’d ever done in his career prior to last season.

He’s turning the ball over too much, but he’s been good this year despite the team results.
