I used to clean the showers at Penn State and let me tell you, that dude would leave one heck of a mess in there. In fact, it was almost like there were little kids horsing around in there. I am disappointed that the book makes no mention of this, as Jerry used to come by and tell me how the showers at Penn State were his favorite part of the football complex. SG, yes it was known around State College, especially those around 2nd Mile, which is why much fault lies with those around him, and especially Paterno.

Roeth, I know that a case was tried to be put together because I talked about it with him after catching rumors for a prominent friend who works with 2nd Mile. If a successful prosecution could have been put together based on that first reported incident, I have the utmost confidence that it would have been. Part of that is due to Bobby Engram earning the “Bobby Ingrate” nickname after Paterno intervened on his behalf and then not so much as a thank you was extended. That DA was as beholden to the football team as you are to the Cleveland Browns. He was most definitely not a politician. On another front, I know that he was a staunch Catholic who became non-practicing due to way the church handled many of their own issues. When you combine the two, I wholeheartedly think that if a successful prosecution could be put together, based on that initial claim, one would have been.

The Baylor and Penn State situations are not analogous….yet. I suspect that the Penn State program is going to be put under the NCAA microscope for sure…but if the only facts that come to light are what we already know, there will absolutely be no NCAA penalty.

Again, what I think is even worse than the whole argument here, is that this exact scenario WAS ACTUALLY IN FRONT OF THE CENTRE DA 4 YEARS PRIOR. He elected not to pursue it despite Sandusky’s entire “I’m sorry – it won’t happen again” deal which HAPPENED WITH A POLICE PRESENCE.

That DA is nowhere to be found (literally) and there is practically zero explanation why is was ignored without prosecution

This comes on the heels of a very tense relationship with the DA’s office post-Bobby Ingram where views of the program, and Paterno, significantly changed. I can say with a high degree of first hand conversation, Penn State was not, nor would not, be protected by that particular DA.

And while I doubt we are talking about a Death Penalty scenario, I do think the NCAA will be involved with this somehow.

I think as in with every other decision the NCAA makes, they will consider their pocket book first before coming down with sanctions. But I think something needs to happen. If USC gets a two year post season ban and a loss of scholarships for 3 additional years beyond that for ruining “amateurism”, they better come down on a program for this…it is pretty clear a blind eye was turned for a long time and the people in charge of the program were complicit in overlooking these crimes.
