The Ford family bought the franchise for $4.5MM in 1963. The Lions are now worth $780MM. Even if the Fords are “losing” money they’re losing it in the same way you “lose” money paying your mortgage on your house that has gained an enormous amount of value.

It’s not as awesome a return as you think. Investing $4.5mm and getting $780mm 50 years later is only an 11% annualized return. Pretty close to what you historically get from from the stock over the long haul. Of course this doesn’t take into account inflation or any of the cash flows (positive and negative) that took place over those 50 years.

Come on, man. Inflation, sharing the pie with the TV deals, and the massive growth of all-things NFL have made all owners richer. William Clay Ford, Sr. is a piece of shit that has one, ONE! playoff victory in his nearly 50 years of ownership. ONE. Dallas, 1991.

i truly do not understand how craig james has kept his job. he is a giant liability, as well as a credibility toilet for espn.
