I’d just as soon keep it. If we stop it, they’ll probably replace them with Kid Rock or Bon Jovi.
November 3rd, 2011 at 8:09 AM
Or maybe we can just create a ” > Nickelback” meme on NFL.com until they get the point.

I designed the courthouse’s foundation, vestibule, and the roof pediment. I always knew it would be a visual pheromone.

I saw Third Eye Blind play at halftime of the Lions Thanksgiving Day game in 1999.
November 3rd, 2011 at 8:26 AM
ahhhh man, people just to let it go. Nickelback just plays testosterone-fueled anthem music for the masses, nothing more than that. They’re not out to change the world like Bob Dylan.
November 3rd, 2011 at 8:28 AM
never heard of him.
November 3rd, 2011 at 8:32 AM
I designed the bathroom stall where Bieber nailed that chick for 30 seconds. I knew the tp dispenser was giving off a visual pheromone not seen since the courthouse design in Jacksonville.
November 3rd, 2011 at 8:32 AM
They’re not out to change the world like Bob Dylan.
More Typhoid Mary than Bob Dylan.
Canadian football is only played in the universities, they play 3 down football and the quality is shockingly bad.

If you’re comparing CIS football to NCAA then clearly the quality is much lower, but I wouldn’t call it “shockingly bad”.

In fairness, she was probably a little slimmer before she had the kid. Well, it’s not fairness. I mean, if she wanted to she could lose that wait. I guess I was being fair to Beiber, which makes no sense because he is a tool.

Apparently “Hysteria” by the Muse was voted the #1 Bassline in rock history by Music Radar. Dont know how “Another One Bites The Dust” isn’t #1.

Flea: legend.

As far as Cain. Read Weagel on Slate. The Republican Primary is two elections right now. The real one in which Romney will be the nominee and the game show one in which the others get voted off the island. Cain’s getting voted off now.

The way they’ve gone after Obama, they don’t care about appearing racist. This is more of a sign that they’re more concerned about beating a supposed liberal with a supposed real conservative. They wouldn’t care if the conservative was the Son of Sam.

November 3rd, 2011 at 9:14 AM
Best? Yikes.
I like Hysteria and Orion, but some of the others, no thanks.
I’d take 46 & 2 over Schism, definitely needs some Sabbath, RHCP, or Primus.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:15 AM
Also the dude from RATM\Audioslave, I think his name is Tom Commerford has some cool basslines. Also has one of the coolest tattoos ever, just a big black bar that goes across his wingspan to his shoulderblades.

The way they’ve gone after Obama, they don’t care about appearing racist.
I can’t believe people actually believe this. Did the way libs went after Bush make them reverse racist? Did the way righties went after Clinton make them reverse racist. It is unfortunately how the game is played today. Whether the Prez is white, black, green, whatever. I find this argument so idiotic it is hard to believe.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:20 AM
That’s soooooooo mainstream.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:20 AM
it’s just funny b/c these are the candidates they put out there?
christie is smart not running until the next cycle, he’d be wasting his appeal this year.
the repubs are essentially lining up their candidates for the slaughter, whoever loses in the general won’t be there again (Romney – they can finally be rid of him) and all the other candidates are going to cannibalize themselves into obscurity.

From the article about the former LSU recruit, I see they have a college playoff in Canada. Follow the Canadian format! They probably pay their players too! How long before elite recruits start matriculating at Canadian universities for the improved college football schedule and format?

He could be the one to beat in 2016. He made a very wise choice not running this cycle.

if there’s still a lot of anti wall street sentiment, Warren will be pulled into the mix and rightly so.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:28 AM
It’s not a safe bet to ever bet against a sitting president. That doesn’t mean Obama is getting re-elected, but if you put a gun to my head and made me choose I’ll always take the sitting president…especially if his opponent is devoid of charisma, like Romney/Newt.*
*Perry and Cain are done, so it seems Newt may be the last one to make a stand against Romney
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:28 AM
I always loved when the bass kicked in at 0:12 in this song.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:29 AM
It might be the imposing of Obama’s face with a family of chimps released by high level Tea Party activists or various statements made throughout the year that has people thinking this. Just because it hasn’t been played heavily on the 6 PM news or more importantly, just because he has chosen to ignore them, doesn’t mean they don’t exist in a pretty good number.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:29 AM
the election will be about jobs, and the media is finally waking up to the fact it’s the GOP that’s blocking initiatives that will add to the economic growth.
Romney also saying that “Corporations are people, too” won’t play very well if the OWS movement still has traction or the protests and sentiments spread.

The most ridiculous thing I’ve seen the past week wasn’t involving Cain, but rather Perry’s speech in New Hampshire. But since Cain’s news broke right before Perry’s speech, it’s getting no play whatsoever. That was the strangest speech I’ve ever seen a politician give.

This is a bizarre story. Some weirdo GA mountain people wanted to engage in acts of terror against the ATF&E and the DEA.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:33 AM
A President can survive this economy as long as the Capital Hill Republicans continue to play the game they’re playing ham handedly. Not only that, but there is no way a nominee can win a general election if your own party despises you such as the predicament Romney finds himself in. The Republican Convention is going to be pure dramedy.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:34 AM
yeah, i think we’re finally past the whole “excelling in academics is for elitist snobs, mediocrity is the best” in terms of politics.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:34 AM
He probably read this.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:34 AM
It’s not a safe bet to ever bet against a sitting president.
And as a conservative I find the left’s apparent overconfidence comforting. Being a sitting president is not an advantage when unemployment is over 9 precent.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:35 AM

November 3rd, 2011 at 9:36 AM

November 3rd, 2011 at 9:37 AM
and you are really underestimating how poorly the actions of the GOP killing job bills and fighting tooth and nail against solutions, rather than providing their own, will play out in the election.
anyone who wraps their arms around corporations and tax cuts for the top 1% will lose the election.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:38 AM
Dude…I’m not overconfident. I was simply saying that the line, “it’s a safe bet that Obama will lose” is actually retarded. Not because he’s a liberal, but because sitting president’s have a pretty good track record of getting re-elected, and the one’s that don’t need more than just a bad economy, but rather they usually lose to very charismatic opponents (see Reagan over Carter, Clinton over H.W. Bush).
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:38 AM

This is why I empathize with Occupy Wall Street: I, as an inidividual, paid more in taxes last year than 30 Fortune 500 companies combined.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:41 AM
i haven’t met anyone that disagrees with OWS.
it’s not about a redistribution of wealth, it’s about economic justicice and fairness for the entire country, not the ones wealthy enough to finance an election.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:42 AM
Lots of nutty links and ads on that site. But it’s fun to read that Big Brother stuff. 1984 is my favorite book and Orwell probably my favorite author.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:42 AM
Why don’t they go Occupy DC? It’s the unfair tax code and legislation. I watched a great video Reason put out with Peter Schiff where he talks to a bunch of protesters. Quite a few nuts, but there were a lot of highly educated cats out there.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:42 AM
and everyone else classifies them as losers.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:42 AM
and you are really underestimating how poorly the actions of the GOP killing job bills and fighting tooth and nail against solutions, rather than providing their own, will play out in the election.
Last post on this. Do you really think when people go vote for Prez this will have ANY effect. Aside from it being completely false. Carter didn’t lose to Reagan becasue of charisma. This is libs lying to themselves. Carter lost because he failed. And that was the preception. A Prez OWNS the economy in people’s perceptions. Not the congress. To quote Daniel Caffey, Obama “is going to lose and he’s going to lose huge”.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:43 AM
This one of the reasons why I hate politicians. Usually republicans
Pass a bill requiring abstinence only education.. then ban abortions, so all those kids that were a result of unprotected sex that was bound to happen will come into the world poor and without a good parental structure… then bitch about them using welfare. Perfect circle.

November 3rd, 2011 at 9:46 AM
Where did I say this? I said it takes more than just a bad economy. You also need good candidates, and right now Romney isn’t all that great as many on the (far) right just flat out don’t like him. He’s also very easy to run against as he’s taken so many competing positions on so many issues. Obama getting re-elected is probably a 50-50 shot, maybe 55-45. That’s pretty crappy for the average re-election bid I would think, but to say that’s a “safe bet” just doesn’t add up to me.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:46 AM

South Park did a nice job with the occupy people yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed that one. Let out an audible “OH SNAP!” when they said the 99%ers were occupying because they elected a black president and now they can’t say anything bad about him. South Park continues to push the envelope. And that envelope makes me laugh.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:49 AM
I’m of the mind that Romney is a liberal Republican or a conservative Democrat at heart, but he knows to get elected he has to say things that go more to the far right.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:50 AM
Here’s what I dont get, Virginia Republicans sent out that email picture of Obama as a zombie with a bullet hole in his head.. dont they know that a bullet to the brain is what kills zombies? There is some truth to this, but I feel this election will be more like 2004.
There was an undercurrent of people who would have voted GWB out of office in 2004, but the alternative (Kerry) was worse than what they had in office. Even if you don’t want to vote Obama, the Republicans aren’t putting up anyone who is any better (IMO).
Getting back to Carter……Globally, the world was a different place in 1980. Carter was seen as soft during the Cold War and Iran was holding US hostages. That killed him every bit as much as the economy.
If you are an incumbent legislator, however, I hope you have your resume up to date and your rolodex handy.

I’m of the mind that Romney is a liberal Republican or a conservative Democrat at heart, but he knows to get elected he has to say things that go more to the far right.
Which is disappointing… I could really see myself voting for a liberal republican… especially a social liberal one. These evangelical nut jobs are taking over the right though.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:53 AM
Nice.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:54 AM
So what songs will Nickelback play a halftime?
“Crap”, “Poop”, “Poop” (acoustic)
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:54 AM
That strategy worked out well for John McCain.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Agree. He was too naive to think he could close Gitmo, though. He took that one on the chin. The gay marriage thing is something only a second term president would dare handle as our country is still full of homophobic nutjobs who think those who are gay are less than human. There is no reason to take a stand on that issue in your first term if you want to have a second one (sadly).
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Every poll taken at this point says it is having and will have an effect. The Iranian Hostage crisis had as big if not a bigger effect on the election than the economy, so no, it wasn’t just the economy.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:54 AM
well everyone except that dumbass on the Walking Dead who was hanging from that tree.
I don’t understand… they said his legs were eaten by zombies, yes? So 1. Why don’t the packs of zombies eat each other? 2. They obviously can’t climb trees… seems like it would be pretty safe to chill out there.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:56 AM
should be on again, i think i saw at least 6 different showing between the premiere and monday when i looked for different recording times.
you’ll get pissed at it though, if you think walking dead people are stupid, the survivors here make them look like Survivor Man. but damn, is it entertaining.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:56 AM
I think it will be Romney’s undoing as well, though I suppose he’ll tab Rubio as his running mate, thus locking up Florida. The election will come down to Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, NC and Virginia…as all modern Presidential elections do.
November 3rd, 2011 at 9:57 AM
I believe his official policy is abortions for some, miniature American flags for others.

Well I figured they ate his legs while he was dead but before he reanimated. But yeah, it seems clear enough that zombies cant climb, when Shane was on top of the bleachers in the gym.

So how would you feel if they paid more in taxes, but less in wages? Or hired fewer people? Would you feel justified, or pissed that they aren’t doing enough to help the little people?
Wages have been stagnant since the 1960′s while corporate taxes have come down. There has been no correlation to tax breaks and wage increases the last 50 years. Companies take the tax break and outsource to another country or hire old people with pensions who will ask for less in wages.
St. Bear, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. The classic recovery cycle is companies lay off a bunch of people, become more productive with few employees, improve their tech and infrastructure, then hire more people. This is taking a hell of a lot longer than expected, but we’re still on that path.

Zombies eat living flesh. That guy hung himself and they ate him before he zombiefied, which, according to Jenner, has been documented to take up to at least eight hours in some cases. It’s a good idea to climb trees, but if you want to be Swiss Family Robinson, go ahead and risk it while the walkers bear down.

November 3rd, 2011 at 10:08 AM
I love it when some random internet blog commenter says things like, “we should just hire someone smart. all of these guys/gals are idiots.” Clinton was a Rhodes’ Scholar and Obama was the President of the Harvard Law review. Hell, even Bush graduated from Yale. It’s not like Earl from the gas station is running the White House for crying out loud. Right now the biggest issue in DC is not what the White House does, but rather what the Congress does. It’s amazing to see how compromise has become a dirty word in DC. No longer is it okay to work across the aisle with a liberal or conservative counterpart. Now, do I think one side is worse at this than the other one? I most certainly do. However each side has taken to a bunker mentality that needs to be broken up or this shit will never end.
November 3rd, 2011 at 10:08 AM
The way they’ve gone after Obama, they don’t care about appearing racist.
/ I can’t believe people actually believe this. Did the way libs went after Bush make them reverse racist? Did the way righties went after Clinton make them reverse racist.
How many attacks on CLinton or Bush referred to their race? I never saw one.
Now, how many of those attacking Obama refer to his race? Based on what I read on commenter boards, I’d wager at least half.
That’s the difference.
If you do not see the racial element in the attacks on Obama, you are blind.

November 3rd, 2011 at 10:19 AM
I’ll pass. His PhD in European History wouldn’t do much for us. I was more thinking of someone with an education in finances/economics.
Listen, Obama has surrounded himself with a plethora of highly-educated Harvardy people. Hasn’t worked out too well. And last I checked Dems controlled Prez and both houses of Congress for two years and look what we got for it. Kind of hard to pin it on the Republicans in one house now I think.
No, we don’t have to have a highly educated person in the Presidency. We need a leader who surrounds him/herself with enough variety of educated and experienced business people to see ALL sides of each issue. Keynsian overload is what has occurred in this White House. The sad part is I’m really not sure we have a candidate in either party who fits this bill. And Europe is on the brink. Kind of scary really…
November 3rd, 2011 at 10:20 AM
Exactly. Congress as a cohesive unit has way more power than the President. That’s why when one side gets in power and that side isn’t cohesive (as was the case when Obama was first elected due to the conservative bloc of Blue Dog Dems) very little shit gets passed. Normally, though, the two sides would come together to get a jobs bill passed, but in today’s climate, coming together to help the country is worse than saying, “fuck it” and watching us further creep into dispair.
November 3rd, 2011 at 10:20 AM

GDP fell by roughly 8% at the height of the credit crisis which in a $13tn economy is roughly $1.04 trillion of lost capacity. In order to stimulate the economy enough to return to normal inflationary amounts of 2-3% you need total monetary + fiscal stiumlation of close to $2.5 trillion. The ARRA was $780bn and QE1 was roughly $500 bn. That’s still a trillion of lost demand and capacity. The ARRA should have been closer to $1.5tn if it really wanted to have a major impact.

One of the bigger issues with every aspect of government. You want somebody talented that has experience dealing with their particular field. These people you seek are more often than not at the head of major corporations or at least on that company’s board. Doesn’t matter if it’s education, economics, forestry, whatever…
Talent goes where the money is, but the relationships you made don’t really change and almost invariably will lead to favorable policies for your buddies and whatnot.
