The Hot Seat is Getting to Houston Nutt
Ole Miss led No. 9 Arkansas 17-0 midway through the 2nd quarter Saturday in Mississippi before reality set in and the Hogs rallied for a 29-24 victory. Afterward, Rebels’ coach Houston Nutt, whose job security could best be described as tenuous right now, took a couple jabs at local columnist Neal McCready, who predicted Ole Miss would get drilled, 49-10.
“They played real hard,” Nutt said. “They played harder than that 49-10, right, Neal? One on my players told me. I don’t read your stuff; they tell me what you say. One of my freshmen told me that Neal McCready wrote that we were going to get beat 49-10. It wasn’t no 49-10.”
This was a solid attempt by Nutt at deflecting attention from another SEC loss, and redirecting it at a media member. Hey, anything to keep the angry mob with pitchforks at bay, right? Ole Miss is 2-5 and winless in the SEC (they’ve lost 10 straight in conference play). The Rebels won’t be going to a bowl game unless they finish by winning four of their last five, which would mean beating Auburn this weekend. It seems unlikely.
Will Nutt be canned? He took Ed Orgeron’s players to two straight Cotton Bowls, but this year will likely make two in a row without a postseason trip. His year will be a disappointment, especially considering they brought back eight starters on offense. He’s viewed as a dirty coach, and the best move might be to get rid of him sooner rather than later. I’d speculate about names to replace Nutt, but first, somebody needs to tell me if booster can come up with his $6 million buyout. Jimmy Sexton is a dirty, rotten genius.

He’s gone. He might make it to the end of the season, maybe. But he’s gone.

I really want him to stay in Oxford.

I was worried when I was watching this game. Mostly for arkbadger’s personal safety.

Neal McCready was on the Auburn beat when I was there. I think I remember him getting fired from a radio gig he held and he claimed it was because he constantly bagged on Alabama. I’m also confident in my memory that he was kind of a dick.

It must be hard to be a beat writer in places like Oxford, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, Starville and Fayetteville. People don’t have any distractions to take their mind off the one show in town.

They got some players in Mississippi though. Whoever takes over for Nutt will have plenty to work with. Moncrief, and especially Brassell looked very impressive, and they’re only freshman

it wasn’t my safety but the others around me. I went to a local volunteer fire department cookout later that day, it was the people there I was truly worried about if the Hogs had lost that game.
/stayed away from the whiskey last saturday
//probably a good idea

yeah, a good buddy of mine did the sports beat here in Fayetteville for about 3 years, and while he loved it, he said it had it’s difficulties. he was here while Nutt was and had a run-in with him once in a parking lot after a presser where nutt didn’t like what he asked him and tried calling him out. nutt was completely in the wrong and my buddy straight up told him. needless to say nutt was a total asshole to him the rest of the time he wrote for the paper.

and while I will admit that a lot of the shit that Arkansas fans did to get rid of nutt 4 years ago was way (way, way) over the top, it is kind of satisfying that people are now realizing what kind of snake oil salesman he is and how there is no excuse that he was allowed to stay at Arkansas as long as he did, and get the buyout for getting fired that he did.

That is the ONLY game in town for these SEC schools. This, of course, is an entirely different distraction that the Nuttman had at one time

Terry Bowden’s sitting by the phone, waiting for the call.

You’d think America would have more distractions from TEBOWMANIA!, like the WORLD FREAKING SERIES and Monday Night Football.
But apparently not.
